Have you guys played Sonic Generations yet? They fixed Sonic. They made a god Sonic game again. Hell, they made an AWESOME Sonic game. Even the Modern Sonic bits are fun to play, and it has my personal favorite special stage out of all of the Sonic games (fighting Metal Sonic). We all thought it was impossible, but they did it!

Did you ever think this could happen? What other dead in the water game series from the past would you like to see revived, if any?

Problem is that it released amid crushing amounts of hype with Skyrim on the horizon, and the whole B3 vs. MW3 taking most of gamers attention.

meh so after 10 years a playable sonic game gets made. too little too late. sonic has gotten to the point where you can't just make a good sonic game to have people notice.
Sonic Adventure 2: Battle - 2002
Sonic Heroes - 2004
Sonic Rush and Rush Adventure - 2005 and 2007
Sonic Colours - 2010

What the hell people? To hell with your ideas of a playable Sonic game. 10 years my ass. There are about 2 and a half games where people almost unanimously agree on that sucked which I haven't listed for those reasons, and I still liked one of them.
i owned all the games you listed, i wouldn't call them good as much as a call them playable, you know what else is playable, flash games. i haven't got the new one yet, i wont in tell its like 75% off. than well talk. in tell than i have sonic 3 and knuckles to hold me over if i ever get a urge for speed.

btw, rush was good thou, in tell it was stolen from me :( but i still like sonic 3 more. and its not just nostalgia, i still play sonic 3 once and awhile.

p.s. speaking of bad ass genesis games, comix zone any one?

all terrible games as far as the gaming community is concernd...with the exception of the sonic rush games but i'm convinced they only reason they don't suck is because sega (at the time) couldn't figure out how to a 3D sonic on a handheld so decided to rehesh the old formula.
You mean, in your opinion. You'll be hard-pressed to find someone who genuinely hated Colours, and isn't just calling the grapes sour because he doesn't own a Wii.

I could put it in one word but I would get a warning for it: SKYRIM

I committed an Escapist high crime and picked up Generations instead of Skyrim, and in another heinous act, do not regret it one bit.

If anyone is curious, I have a review of Sonic Generations currently sitting on page 2 of the User Review section. There's another good review of it there too, and just a lot of nice reviews of a whole bunch of other stuff written by other Escapists. It's a cool area that deserves to be checked out more.

I loved Sonic Battle, but it probably would have been better as a non-Sonic game. you know, with its own original storyline and characters. Also, Emerl's far too overpowered once you get him equipped with the press R to win super moves.

Okay, at the risk of sounding like a fanboy, why does EVERYONE keep forgetting about Colors? That got almost as good a response as Generations, yet everyone either keeps forgetting about it or neglects it. And don't even get me started on the Advance/Rush series.
I'll be perfectly honest, I thought Colours was...okay at best. I hated Planet Wisp, in both Colours and Generations. I thought the daytime Unleashed levels were better.

I really liked Sonic Generations, but come on. It came out the same month as Skyrim, the game was incredibly short and padded to shit. The actual levels are great fun, but the challenges you need to do to unlock the extras and face bosses are just a total pain in the arse. If you ask me, they should've stripped those out, released it as a downloadable title and then maybe worked on adding some new levels over time. I mean, come on, the game looks like it was built for DLC levels.

Hey, I'm cheering!

I really like it. I liked Colors, and this...this blows it away like nobody's business. Aside from the retardedly long planet wisp stage, generations is excellent. Incredible even.

And the ability to swap out the music for each stage for tunes from games gone past is genius.

EDIT: I also enjoy the challenges, unlike a lot of people. Yeah, some are duds, but i don't mind them one bit. Especially because they give me more music. :p

Now if you'll excuse me, some dude I added on PSN has beaten my near flawless time on Speed highway's 30 second trial. I need to beat that guy. >: ( Nobody beats me at a level that I claim to have mastered!

Half of Rooftop Run's challenges, for example. Great level, horrible challenges. The big balloon one almost cost me a controller, and the Vector note one was almost as bad (but then again that's pretty obvious; anything with Vector is pretty much destined to suck.)

Darn, if only you had the 360 version. I'd love to see if you could take me on in City Escape! >:)

Probably because Colours was a Wii Exclusive (I think)

OT: I haven't yet picked it up (Not allowing myself to buy new games until I clear my backlog) but I will definately be picking this up!

EDIT: I allways mess up quoting people :(

I enjoy the race challenges for classic Sonic. Reminds me of playing against my friends in Sonic 2's race multiplayer mode.

i think a lot of the problem is that everyone is too engaged in other games, im personally playing skyrim, assassins creed, battlefield 3 and a bit of minecraft. now this game came out on the 4th and I was moving at that time so i barely noticed its arrival. it would have been much better if they had waited a few months and released it in say February when there isn't this giant surge of big releases, when people will notice a new sonic game and are more likely to put the money down.

Did you..jus-...Oooh hell no guys hold my Chaos Emerald, shits going down!

I don't know about Heroes, Rush, and Colours...But Adventure 2: Battle was awesome! Personally my favourite Sonic game, You had the Chao Garden, some awesome level designs, and possibly one of the most memorable songs to come from a level since the first Sonic with the Green Hill tune.

Plus didn't this game give us Shadow The Hedgehog? Possibly the most badass character since Knuckles?

It was released with little fanfare. Also, the 3DS version is either not out yet or, came out later. The 3DSs version alone would have been good news if it came out at the same time as or, before the console versions (opinion is personal). I hope to get it for a birthday or, other gift giving holiday. If not, It will be mine on the 3DS by 2-6-2012.

I actually asked my brother about it. He just turned 10 and he wants nothing to do with it. I can't blame him though, his favorite game was Sonic Team Heroes (I think) on the PS2. Not terrible but far, far, FAR away from the originals I had at his age (well, technically before but not being in a Sega household, I got some things later on) Of course, he hated Sonic Colors which was also apparently better than other modern Sonic games so I don't know how to take that.

Skyrim, Skyward Sword, MW3, etc are overshadowing it. Damn unfortunate. It's the first Sonic game I've actually wanted since Adventure.

But I guess it really is too little too late, which is something I absolutely HATE saying.

It sucks that it got overshadowed now that they've done two good sonic games in a row (colours and generations). It's just the worst possible time to release it with Skyrim, CoD7, BF3 and Saints Row 3 all coming out. But hopefully people have a better opinion of the developer now.

Well when you beat your fans for so long they tend not to care anymore.
And the Sonic games are a bit out of their time, I mean you got the lineup of triple A titles at $60 next to an old platformer for $50... you got to be fucking kidding, let's talk when it's 20-30.

Yes the game is good but it's not that kind of money good.

Wait a minute... you claim Heroes to be... good?
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF...

Adventure 2 suffered from the same thing Adventure 1: Knuckles's treasure hunting levels. Bad level design, stupid game mechanics filled with INCREDIBLY boring combat.
and if you claim that you had fun with these and didn't feel like they were a horrible break of flow and game speed then you're a filthy filthy liar.
Also, battle was nothing but a remake and remakes are stupid. (and no I don't care about the crappy extra content)

Sonic Rush and Rush Adventure weren't all that bad but also had some GLARING flares. You were forced to play through the games TWICE as some sort of idiotic gameplay-lengthening strategy, the boss battles were pathetic and almost always the same (different only in polygons not in strategy) and also introduced MORE FUCKING characters (as if the series really needed any) as well as THE SINGLE MOST ANNOYING character that makes even Ashley from RE4 or Navi from OoT seem likeable in comparison.

Besides, these games were developed by DIMPS who still have people with talent left as opposed to Sonic Team.

And Sonic Colors... uhm... okay, Sonic colors wasn't that bad although it did 'force' you to backtrack with new skills which is fun in explorative metroidvania-style games but doesn't work so well in high speed jump n runs.

So yeah, we have now one good game and one game that wasn't bad. After a decade of wading through games ranging from unplayable (Sonic 2006, Shadow, Unleashed) to mediocre (these horrible wii games, heroes), it's nothing to party about. Besides, am I the only one who feels like Generations is nothing but a best-of album rather than an entirely new game?

Sonic as a franchise just isn't that good anymore. Seriously, only hardcore fanboys and furries actually look forward to a new Sonic game.
