Whoever says that this doesn't hurt SONY isn't thinking about this logically. Whoever it is whether it be Anon or not, is affecting revenue as last time I checked you can purchase things on the PSN network. Not to mention the time and money spent on fixing the issue and rewriting programs that were in place. Yep, this is ONLY hurting the consumer... NOT.

Now thats over, whoever is doing this are dicks. Maybe its part of the collective that funded Geohotz case and were pissed with the settlement or maybe some splinter cell within Anon. W/e the case they better cut it out.

Whatever, Sony. You just keep flingin' bullshit, and we'll see how that goes for you.
It's easy to call people liars without proof.

But it cheapens you.
Well, there's no proof that their story is true, either.
Yes there IS proof, it just obviously they cannot divulge it, I mean no company is that stupid to show their hand on how they figured it out with an ongoing investigation. They also can't claim to be have been attacked by outside entities if they have not, that is a serious offence to claim a crime has taken place when it has not.

Don't be under any illusions, casual slander won't hurt your enemies more than it will cheapen your own word.
Actually, we don't know that there is any proof at all. It's very easy to say "There's proof, but we can't show it to you" whether there's proof or not. If someone claims there is proof one way or another, it is then their responsibility to back that up by showing said proof. Otherwise, it's meaningless, the exact same as making a statement with nothing to back it at all. As of right now, there is NO PROOF. Period.

Now, I'm inclined to take anything Sony says with a silo of salt. Corporations will lie (they call it spin) to make anything that might make them look a little bad, look better. A simple look at communications from corporations to the public in the past will show that. Sony isn't exactly Simon pure when it comes to their actions and announcements, so I'm not really inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt. The only reason I'm not jumping on the "they're lying!" bandwagon is that I'm not sure how admitting their security sucks to the point an intrusion would take them down helps them. I'd think an internal error would be more accepted in many ways, because right now Sony looks like a pack of idiots who can't even keep their firewalls up.

Also, as long as they don't make specific accusations, they can get away with claiming an external attack as much as they want. Even if it comes out that it was internal, all they have to do is say "oops, our mistake. We misinterpreted the evidence". Boom, free and clear, no offense, it was just a mistake in their information.

Actually, you know what, i will laugh my butt off if it will prove to be Portal 2 fault and the whole cross platform steam integration messing up with Sony's server infrastructure. Maybe PSN couldn't stand the load?

My two cents: Who cares?

Seriously, it doesnt matter if it was external or internal forces. If Anon did it because of whatever mis-guided half truth they convinced themselves it was for, or if someone spilled coffee on a control panel and doesnt want to man up.

Just fix your service. It could have very well have been anon, a disgruntled employee, a disgruntled fan, or just a group of douchebags (or just one dedicated douchebag). Releasing statements saying it was someone elses fault just starts an ENTIRELY new batch of shit to add to the storm, and it doesnt get your servers online any faster.

If it was an external force, get the authorities involved. But blaming it on another source, especially when its heavily hinted that its Anon, is just putting you in more boiling water. Which will probably lead to more attacks in the future.

And blaming it on Anon is really futile, considering there isn't an official Anon group: the same ones that were mad at the GeoHotz case might not even be the same ones that are disrupting their service.

Stop wasting your breath, stop arguing over who did it or didnt do it (because honestly, we will never know), and just move on. Neither sides were exactly stelwart heroes, they both goofed. Just fix it, and move on.

As a side note: Escapist Magazine, please stop reporting on Anon. Seriously. It gets annoying, dull, and you're giving a bunch of people who are looking for attention the attention they desire.

Well atleast Sony hasn't lost its touch with lying.
and where is your evidence to substansiate the claim that they're lying
Oh ya I forgot I'm a court of law here aren't I? ... Get a grip on yourself. What its saying is I don't believe what hes saying.
If you mean that, then SAY THAT.

Stop being illiterate and realise what you actually mean by saying "they are liars" that is an accusation of deliberate deception. You shouldn't be so flippant about such accusations, its slanderous.

The distinction is important as you can reasonably not believe them without them actually lying:
-may be telling the truth though you reasonably doubt till all evidence is available
-they may be mistaken/tricked
-you could detect a misunderstanding.

SERIOUSLY! Stop mentioning Anon! Just because PSN went down DOES NOT mean it was Anon! Anon aren't the only hackers in the world, it could be anyone. This is really starting to piss me of now, I hate it when people put words into other's mouth.

Well are you blaming it on them? Because I don't see anybody doing that. Sony hasn't.

All they've done is give updates on how the PSN is doing. They're trying to fix it and haven't thrown around any accusations at any person or group. I fail to see how anyone can see Sony is the bad guy unless they were on the delusional path to glory back with the criminal Geohotz a while ago.

And a week from now when we all find out it was actually a hardware failure/upgrade then what? ... Sony has lied in the past, and it will continue to do it in the future. And I'm going to continue to say they are lying. If you don't like it or if this confuses you, look in another direction.
eh *shrugs* you're the one undermining your credibility by resorting to unsubstansiated slander on an internet forum and being prejudgemental as opposed to waiting until all the facts come out before comming to a conclusion, not me

whatever floats yer boat
So I need to worry about credibility on here? Really? ... You seem to think, that I think my post is actually worth that much attention and effort. The only advice I can give you is stop taking yourself and everyone else so seriously. Let it go.
No, not really. No one else here has any credibility.

Theres also Geohot and the pirates. Not to mention PCElitists. You never know whatever they do when you give them too much freedom.

No way Anonymous is behind this.
They would take responsibility, 100%.

Sucks that they didn't separate gameplay services from all the other crap (movies, dlc)...
Maybe then we'd have at least some service back up.

Sounds like Sony looking for an excuse for a hardware failure. Server farms and pipelines go down, it happens. No company wants to admit that it happens to them and Sony has the convenient recent trouble with "external influences" to pin it on.

I mean all we can definitely say is that it's not an ion cannon DDOS which is Anon's weapon of choice. As a DDOS doesn't bring a network down like this, it goes in fits and starts and it only affect the server it's targeted at, not all of them.
Actually I'm sure you'd rather say it was a hardware failure than admit that a service where people can provide sensitive information (like card details) isn't actually all that secure as it has been hacked.

I doubt Sony would say this as an excuse as it'd be a pretty stupid excuse!

IB4 "how do you know it is anonymous"

news flash: we don't know who they are, THEREFORE THEY ARE ANONYMOUS!

(I don't think it's China or Iran, they have bigger fish to fry)
Haha, brilliant. I can't think of any argument against that.

PC elitists really could not give a crap about PSN.

To understand the mindset of PC elitists, you have to realise they really do think consoles are so completely beneath them. They might attack those who undermine PC gaming but PC Elitist just find console gamers to be a joke. Small time, worthless "kiddie consoles" and so on.
