Heh nice. We are legion. Gotta love it.

So either someone/group of someones at Anonymous did it, or Sony is lying. Either way is fine with me.

If Sony is lying I hope they get caught, if it was Anonymous I hope they don't.

Yeah, have fun convicting an anonymous group.

Besides, they knew that Anonymous attacked before, they said that themselves. They just have no proof that they had anything to do with stealing account or credit cards.

This seems to me like someone found a dog turd in their lawn and decided that every dog in the neighborhood must have crapped in their yard.

You make a very good point. If they are formless and wide as they claim to be means that by denying action or claiming to take action they identify as being an organized group working towards a singular goal.

The attacks that do actually take place under the Anonymous banner are probably carried out by an actual organized group of people.(and yes setting up a raid in irc counts as organized) The thing about those groups, the ones that actually do raids and release press releases under the Anonymous name, is that when they say they're not the ones responsible for something they actually mean it. I mean think about it; those guys are in it for the lulz and are out for attention. You really think they'd pass up the opportunity to say "Hey Sony we just pwnt you guise. Hope ur not 2 butthurt over it."

No, I still don't think they did this. They may do alot of stuff that pisses people off, but they're not ones to stay quiet when they raid someone.

Bullshit. Why would they ever leave a file with their name on it there? Because they wouldn't.

Quick question for everyone saying Sony is lying. Why? What do they have to gain from this?
To quickly get a scapegoat at wich people can get angry instead of at Sony. To not seem incompetent that they haven't found a suspect yet. To not lose customers and shareholders.
That's nice, except it's not their job to find a suspect. That's a criminal matter. Also they have as much of a scapegoat as they had before. Hackers.

I used a poor word choice when I said "found a suspect". But anyway... yes, but it'll be less damaging for their image, wich they obviously strive to keep positive. Anonymous is less broad than just "hackers". If I were Sony's CEO, I'd do the same.

It really doesn't sound like Anon's MO given that they apologised to the PSN users for the downed network saying 'we hope you understand what we are doing', then go pinch all their credit card details...

I don't see how it makes a difference. Anonymous is not a well-defined organization. Even if they're telling the truth, that information alone doesn't mean much.
It's a bit of a stretch to even call them an "organization." They're only an "organization" in the loosest possible sense of the word.

well..originally hte CEO himself said that he doubted anon was involved in the hacking. This release may just be a smokescreen for that. Anon tends to gloat about what they do, they WANT people to know it was them. They are attention whores but they are also good at what they do.

in this case, it may have been someone within anonymous, but I don't think it was anonymous as a whole.

inside Sony's security think-tank...

Johnson: Sir, we've finally made a breakthrough on the case.
Baines: Well what is it?
Johnson: We've discovered an anonymous file left anonymously on our systems claiming anonymously that the responsible party is an anonymous group named Anonymous...
Baines: ...
Johnson: ... anonym-
Baines: Outstanding Johnson!!! Alert the FBI to our findings. I want every anonymous person out there lined up for questioning IN 24 HOURS. MOVE MOVE MOVE!!!
The Boss: I swear to God I'm going to pistol whip the next person that says anonymous.
The Cop: Hey Farva, what's the name of the group that hangs around 4chan?
Farva: You mean anonymous?
Cop hands Boss his pistol.

On the other hand, Sony could simply be lying.

Anon. would make a pretty suitable scapegoat to blame for their incompetence.

Seems like a cover-up, but who knows?

Either way, the shit will hit the fan sometime soon.

ok, I've only just been updated on all this, not a member of the PSN since I don't own a PS3; and this might be just asking an old question, but why isn't anyone speculating on WHY sony got hacked?
