To do list: Stop making phones. Drop the music business. Focus on cheaper HD TV's. Make cheap wireless Surround Sound systems. Make better PSP games. Charge a subscription for PSN and make it better and more stable. ???? Actually profit.

And you can raise a child on the frustration you get out of a 360, is a cheaper price really worth it?
Well, apparently so. It is selling better :p
And it is making profits. Even with the RROD they are marketting what they have, and they are flaunting it.

Sony aren't marketting it properly. Which is such a shame for such a large piece of hardware I'd otherwise consider buying if only to play...Actually, I don't know if theres really a game I do want to play. I might play inFAMOUS but that's about it.

MW 2, Prototype, Halo 3: ODST and Assassins Creed 2 are the games of this year...and they're mutliplatformers.

Why are you advising them to leave the markets where they have the third and second biggest market share respectively?
One word. Apple.

iPod, iPhone, iTunes.

They've cornered that market. Not to mention the Sony Ericcson phone line are bleeding them money. They are riddled with more faults than a launch 360

I think I'd buy shares next year if this continues, Sony won't fold, and the recession is going to end.

Wow, I really prefer the Playstation ones, Xbox ads are just boring.

I agree that it might be the less commercially atracting ones, but atleast they have a certain je ne sais quoi if you catch my drift.

I'm finding the 'made by games' ad of MS extremely ironic, with the faulty hardware it's like saying that the games are shit, which they are not.

I really like this one from the past (made by David Lynch, no surprise):

I'm not saying the commercials are "Bad". But they aren't consumer friendly. I'm speaking from the mind of a parent, who more often that not buys the consoles for the children. If they see fun things, they'll think fun. If they see hard and edgey. They won't be too interested, as it doesn't appeal to them personally.

The major loss isn't solely from the gaming side of things, but more likely their big ticket items like TVs and other electronics, which are the first to go during a recession. With game sales actually increasing, it's highly unlikely that they'll drop the PS3.

I mean look at Walt Disney Studios. Their operating income just dropped 97% and they're still making movies. Sony - like everyone - just needs to tighten its belt and get through this. And it will with the support of loyal customers, such as ourselves.

Oh, and to all those that say console cost is the beginning and the end of consoles, and costs of them matter in the great outcome. Think of the razorblade arguement.

You lose money making the razorblade, but you get your money back from the extra razor packs you sell.

Come on Infamous for the 360, come on!

Sorry, I'm getting greedy... I swore I'd be happy with just FFXIII, but damn that game got good reviews and looks like a blast.
Patience young one, and before long infamous will be on 360
The day that happens is the day Microsoft gives Halo to Sony. If Microsoft really wanted inFamous they would have to pull Sony out of this recession, give them their fist born, and give royalties per system/game sold.
In short: NOT GONNA HAPPEN!

Anyone else seeing sony going the route of Sega, games division wise I mean, I highly doubt we will be seeing a ps4. I reckon the ps3 will chug along for another few years, eventually make a profit, but the effort put in just doesn't seem like it was worth it. Face it, xbox is more profitable this round and the wii is shitting on everyone. I would much prefere to see 1 huge console supported in the next gen with support from song and microsoft behind it. The 2 behemoths just arent cutting it this round, and fan boys either side are butt hurt.
No, I actually see Microsoft going down that road actually.

With 11 million paying Xbox Live subscribers. The largest amount of games available, with PS3 only being close by their Japanese exclusives, and a constant stream of clever marketting ad's and buying of exclusive rights. I don't see them going anywhere for a long ass time.

Your reason being....? You can't just make a statement like that and not give reason! Sronpop has given a good, reasonably solid argument in regards to the evidence provided in this article and you have just said "no, i dont think so"; thats not a proper retort!

Cmon man, you gotta actually give a reason why you think for some reason Microsoft are gonna be the next Sega...

How is it a shock?
$1 Billion is a lot of money! And considering all the lay offs they have had, the closed departments, the price cutting, and the fact that their predicted net loss is going to increase.... Sony must've been a really really uneconomical company
THATS why it should not be shocking.

Sure, Microsoft just need to write a checque to Sony for $50 billion, and they need to fully overhaul the 360 so that its up to the neccesary standards to play inFAMOUS.
There's a fanboy if I've ever seen one. The 360 and PS3 have quite comparable specs, and the 360 wouldn't have a problem with a game like Infamous. You hang on to that fanaticism though, it's nice to see true passion these days.
