I've only really had 2 bad ones.

* I decided it would be fun to jump from the top of my bunk bed. Forgetting that my room is tiny and my dressing table directly where I was to land. It wasn't too clever of me to land knee-first either, split my knee open. It's all fine now though, just a thin scar under my kneecap

* My parents and I went for a walk along the beach in Sri Lanka on Boxing Day 2004. I don't really have many clear memories of that any more except walking along a railway line after a local rescued us.

Oddly, I always seem to narrowly avoid anything particularly bad. I almost got hit by a truck once, however. It was close enough that the tyre actually stuffed the heel of my shoe. I still have no idea how I didn't notice the friggin' lorry.

Personally, I've never really had anything that bad happen. I have lots of stupid injuries, scars from a computer's disc-drive opening and slicing my skin...somehow...and a load of faint scars across my shoulders which would look badass if they were more visible and weren't as a result of trying to hold a cat whilst shoving a pill down it's neck.

EDIT- Whoops, just remembered! When I was eight I slipped off my bike down a hill and slid about a metre on my forearm. It rubbed half the skin off the back of my arm. Fuggin' wet leaves!

A friend of mine threw a brick, which missed its original target, and hit me in the temple.

We aren't friends anymore.

Three accidents I vividly remember:

1. When I was a kid (wee kid, something like 5 years-old), I was sitting on the back seat of the car, no safety belt mind you (we were hardcore in the early 80's). My mother, who was driving, fell asleep and literally rammed a truck in front of us. I flew the length of our Pontiac LeMans station wagon and ended up head first in the fucking dashboard.

2. Few years later, I got hit by a Cadillac when I was riding my bicycle (I remember the model of the car, weird). The guy hit the brakes when he realized he hit something and the car stopped, my foot stuck under a wheel, on the side. Gosh. The bones in our feet aren't meant to be squished sideways.

3. More recently, I was riding my bicycle. Race bicycle, mind you, I must have been going at roughly 30 km/h. I hit the sidewalk, and you know what happens when you do that. I scraped a chunk of meat (not skin, meat) off my right hand. A guy with a pickup truck was kind enough to drive me home, me and my wreck of a bicycle, and I spent a full hour just lying on the floor of my apartment, since `getting up or just looking at the wound would make me faint. I guess I was lucky I didn't suffer head trauma!

There ya go.

When i went to visit my Uncle in the isle of man we went for a walk through the woods. There was a hill with a vertical drop on one side, about 3 or so meters. On top of the hill hanging over the drop was a huge old tree and someone had tied a rope to one of the branches. Basically you could hold the rope, run off the top of the hill, swing over the drop then back onto the hill. I was doing this a couple of times but once i missed the hill top and as i lost momentum i couldn't get my feet back on the hill and was left dangling over a big drop. Anyway my Dad managed to get me back and tied a second bit of rope to the base of the swing, that way if i got stuck he could just pull me back. So on my next turn i grab the rope, run and jump of the hill. As i reach the maximum point in my swing my dad decided to pull the rope which yanked it straight out of my hands and i plummet 3-4 meteres face first into a bog. Wasn't especially painful just very very scary.

Don't worry. Despite the shock probably caused by the title, I'm fine. I was crossing the street, the car came around the corner and hit me. Fortunately, it was stopping, but couldn't stop fast enough. My only injury was a brush burn on my left wrist (though I am a bit sore today). Got checked out at the hospital, so no internal injuries.

Anyway, to add discussion value, please describe the worst accident you've ever been in.
I was in the back seat of a car that hit a truck almost head on (I was approx 5 at the time). Thankfully it was a 1970's Torana and not one of the tin cans sold today, so while it was bloody trashed, I was pulled out with just some minor cuts from glass and my mum (the driver) got away with cuts and an injury to her left knee (dunno what it was, but she walks fine nearly 20 years later so it cant be too major).

If it had of been a new car mum certainly would have died and I possibly would have also (thank god for real cars :p)

I almost got hit by a bus. Thanks god the driver turned by a few degrees and it passed millimeters away from me. The guy got out and told me to go and light a candle in a church. I am not a believer though, so I didn't...

The worst accident? Never had one so far, only painful instances. Like for example pouring alcohol (not booze, pure alcohol) on an open wound, then falling down from the pain. Getting alcohol in my eyes, tearing the skin on my knee when I was drunk, tripping and hitting my shin, also while being drunk. The last one was a wound so deep that it has not fully healed yet (I got it 3 months ago).

When I was living in Dubai as a kid, was run over by a taxi when I was on my bike. As in, literally ended up under the damn thing. Somehow (and to this day no-one knows how) I came out with a bruises and sprained ankle (from getting caught on the pedal of all things) and nothing else. Bike was destroyed getting caught in the tire wells of the taxi, and the taxi had to be towed as it was stuck in there.

Other then that, everything else that's happened to me seems to have been fairly minor. When living in the States a few years later, my front tyre got stuck in the concrete road surface (Where's the tarmac!) sending me flying across the concrete. Thankfully instinct kicked in and I was in a ball before I knew it, so came out of it with just shredded forearms/elbows. That was a painful month - left an impressive blood trail on the road though!

Let's see, was knocked out playing [Field] Hockey when a charging goalkeeper headbutted me flat in the face, and was pushed by a kid off a first floor balcony onto some marble stairs. Landed headfirst and walked away without even a concussion.

Sometimes I'm amazed I've managed to survive this far at all...

Once a car was milimetres away from running over my feet. I was crossing the street on a green light too. And the driver was mad at me, the nerve! What this accident lacked in pain, it made up in stress and frustration.

I broke my ankle while post camping on crown land. It took two days to canoe / portoge our way there, and I was stuck hopping around on a pole for three days untill we left. I had to hop a 2km portoge. The worst part was that I only fractured my tibia, so my ankle appeared okay. I was told to walk it off. That was a painful mistake.

Oo, were you in the car at the time also?
For ours it was a fuel truck, so even after the initial accident there was another risk, thankfully it didnt go up.

I trump you my friend. I got hit by a car as well, when I was 18. I was cycling across a slip road (It was a part of a cycle track) across the entrance to the m32...then I woke up on the floor.
The car was accellerating between 40-50 miles per hour and T-Boned my off of my bike. Apparantly I went over the windscreen and I quote one of the witness accounts.
I heard a bang and saw cyclist in the air
As drastic as it sounds I didn't break a bone in my body, probably because i was knocked out cold right away (I don't remember being hit) However I needed 5 stitches in the back of my head (where the helmet support strap cut me) 13 stiches in my lower back, it was a wide cut and got infected (not fun) and 3 stiches in my ass (had a hot student nurse take those out but thats another story).
Loads of bruising, had a week of college and two weeks of work. And once a week trips to the treatment centre for 3 months (the lower back cut was on my trouser line so had to be kept dressed up until it was completely healed.

Moral of this story WAER A HELMET, trust me it saved my fucking life!
