Thor piped up from the front of the bridge, he hadn't forgotten what happened last week. "Don't shoot them when were talking to them Muo". Thor and his buddy, the navigator on duty burst out laughing. Even the young shy pilot he was training couldn't help but snicker. He had made friends with most who worked on the bridge with him. "I think thats the first time I've heard you make a peep on your own. You'll find your own way one day kid". Thor looked back to the group gathered with Vance. Thor headed over to the group his usual grin cut across his face. He was thinking of asking the Captain to go on another mission, he didn't have to, but it could be fun.
Muokilaxes looked over towards Thor. "Hmm. I'll work on that. But if they should happen to fire first..." He took that jibe as there was nothing else he could do, and it was kinda funny. He had mostly gotten over his, admittedly large, part in that debacle, but he was still looking to prove that he could avoid screwing stuff up.Tiger Sora said:

"Try to avoid hostilities if possible," the Captain replied in answer to Muokilaxe's question, "especially with the colony inhabitants. Ditto with any potential invaders, because they'll probably well outnumber us if that is the cause of the problems on the ground."
After several other corps had spoken, Captain Vance then turned to Tom.
"It'll be a strictly on-foot operation this time, though Thor will go along with one of the teams in-case his expertise in other areas is needed. The colony and facility together are very small, only a few miles across at the most, so there shouldn't be a need for travel once you're down there. Lisa, have you got the team listings ready?"
After several other corps had spoken, Captain Vance then turned to Tom.

"Sounds good to me" James said with a shrug. He didn't know how he felt about the Captain letting the AI make the destions, and he knew he didn't like taking orders from one. But someone had desided that Vance was the right man for the job here, and James would simply have to trust that he was making the right desition. "Assuming, of course, that Thor doesn't have a problem with my company".
The Star Brigade descended slowly through the atmosphere, its multiple thrusters keeping the descent at a decent pace that didn't burn the outer hull on reentry. Sliding through the cloud cover, the surface of Appleeloss stretched out to greet them. Through the bridge viewports, Tom could see dozens of small islands covered in a myriad of multicolored plants. Due to the planet's proximity with the giant ball of water, all the plant life had developed aquatically in order to compensate for spending half the time submerged.
"Crewse docking control, this is Solanic Union Diplomatic Corps vessel Star Brigade, requesting permission to land in moor 459.
There was no response. Down below, the Crewse Colony appeared on the horizon. The small colony of ten thousand was built into what looked like a massive, semi-transparent dome, with multiple rings and frames extending from its diameter. Oddly, there was no ship traffic on any of Lisa's scans, nothing coming or going to the colony apart from the Star Brigade.
"No response? Oh great, first sign of trouble and we haven't even landed yet!" said Tom sarcastically."

As the others were talking, the Captain scribbled illegibly on the print-out Lisa had provided, making changes here and there to what she had produced.
"Alright" he said finally "Here's the final teams for this mission. Exploring the main sector of the colony for clues on what happened here will be Thor, James, Muokilaxes and Mae. Searching the facility to the east for survivors will be Lime, Tom, Brian and Til. I've tried to balance the two teams so each has a mix of skills. That's every Diplomatic corp except me who'll be remaining up here to oversee the mission's progress and Underven, who is unfortunately ill right now."

"Unless you've got any further questions, I suggest you all head down to the loading bay so you can exit once we land. Some of you may end up meeting with representatives from the canopy council since as Lime mentioned, they may have sent some investigators of their own separately from the S.U. effort. I'll check for any information we've received now and Lisa will relay anything interesting that comes up. Further directions will also be sent to you once you're on the ground."

"Fantastic, volunteered. Not like I was doing anything else". Thor walked back over to the pilots chair. "Pop quiz kid. Park this tub and don't scratch the paint. Lisa can help you. I gota go".

Okay, Muokilaxes thought to himself, nice and easy, no diplomatic incidents this time around. Just a nice trip down to planet that may just have been invaded, or there might just be a civil war going on.
He almost hoped it was an invasion, if there was a civil war, then things would just be that much more complex, it ceased to be a simple battle, politics got far more involved than he liked, and with the SU, politics was rarely simple.

The landing bay was busy with everybody preparing for the mission. Tom was quickly putting his gear together. The Quartermaster had advised him and the rest of the more terrestrial crew members that a pressurized suit would be useful. Since Appleeloss was so close to the Sea in the Sky, the atmosphere was incredibly dense and wet. Without a breathing apparatus, land dwelling species could drown in the atmosphere.
Even his skin had been coated in sealant. The synthetic overlay implanted microscopic particles within his pores, which allowed them to continue working without allowing passage to invasive bacteria.
A massive rumbling sound was heard through the ship, followed by a shudder. They must have touched down on the water. Fifteen minutes later, and they had finished the docking process. From the observation booth above, the bay foreman activated the loading doors. The curved hull split down the center, revealing the moor where the ship had docked.

James stood in the landing bay with the other DC's. He wore a combat-variant pressure suit, the respirater replaced with an air filter, along with his tool belt and the holster for his pistol which rested against his left leg. On his back was a light assalt rifle, a DT-65b. He was leaning against a wall when the doors opened, thinking in the back of his mind how disrepaired they sounded.

A modest building, clearly pressurized, lay in front of where the ship had landed. A tunnel made of the same material as the main dome connected the building and the colony. Above it all strecked a sky that looked to James almost too blue, and to the west he could see the titanic Sea of the Sky, a wall of water that streched far beyond where any eye on the surface could follow.

As the eight corps on the mission left the Star Brigade into the apparently abandoned colony and the ship rose slowly back into the air, the Captain spoke over the radio to the Durras.
"Is this the canopy council?" he asked quickly.
"Yes" the Durras replied "My name is Amazan. I've been sent here by the canopy council to meet your team. Where are they?"
"Eh..." Captain Vance glanced out of the window to the team below, "they're near the building to the far south. You know it?"
"I think I know the one. Put me on the line to whoever's heading into the main colony."
"Sure, Lisa connect them up right now. Also send instructions to Lime and Tom's team to start moving eastwards towards the facility."
A few moments after the conversation above ended, Thor, James, Muokilaxes and Mae heard a raspy voice coming out of Thor's microphone.
"Your Captain connected me here, you can call me Amazan. The Durras authorities sent me here to investigate too, I think I'm close. What are your names and could you describe your location so I can get to you fast?"

Before Thor could reply, Muokilaxes said "I don't trust him. If there was another team being sent to Apleeloss, wouldn't we have been told? It's pretty much a joint venture, so you'd think that either the SU or the Durras would have let the others know they were sending someone to the colony that suddenly goes out of communication."
He looked at the others, then continued "I say we let him know where we are, meet him, but keep some of us stay hidden, just in case."
Maybe he was being paranoid, but he didn't trust the mysterious voice that was asking him to do things on faith.

All around them buildings stood empty, many of the reinforced lampposts smashed and litter strewn across the ground. As luck would have it, within moments Lisa's cheery voice emanated from the receiver attached to Lime's chest.
"I hope you enjoyed your landing corps, here are co-ordinates for the facility where the civilians are trapped to the East. You can all access them through the PDA's built into your DC watches. We have a medical team on standby back at the ship if needed for you or any survivors."
