"You'll still have to get Lisa to interface with one of their ships. And there's still the video capsule to retrieve. And the storm to fly through. And the fact that I need to find a way to sneak you on board without the Commander noticing."

"Is that all Mr. Anderson?" chimed Lisa.

"I don't know, I'm making it up as I go." he mumbled.

"Alright, I'll see if I can find a ship." James figured establishing an escape route should be a priority. He walked over to the man with the disintegrated face, now slumping against a wall, and took his gun and ammo. It was gunpowder based, an H&T-993 Texan from the look of it. It was heavy but it was a much better weapon then his pistol, especially in these close quarters. The ammo counter said it was full with 7 rounds. James also scavenged about 13 more off of the body, which he stuck in his pocket. "Can you point me in any direction?"

"Lisa tells me that there is an interior hangar built into the rock wall on the north side of the compound. The heat signatures match ship designs, so we should be in luck. Just a precaution though, they probably have a lot of guys with guns in there watching their rides."

Thor ignored James on the comm. "They've taken Kalade, some main chamber". He shouted out. "I'm goin' after her. And I'm gona spill so much blood for this". Thor kicked in the side of the dead mans head in his rage. He came down to protect Kalade, but he failed. But he could still redeem his sense of honor by saving her. Thor barreled down the corridor, Kalade's flyer barely keeping ahead of him. He kept shouting profanities and incoherencies. He just needed to save her before The Followers Killed her.

Upon pondering for a short while and for seemingly no apparent reason, Brian looked at the Astrid and could almost sense the 'friendliness' she was trying to convey. When he signed up for an extended service with the Diplomatic Corps he had hoped his contact with Aliens would be mostly minimal, that's why he worked as a Reconnaissance Specialist.

Still, the fact was that he was part of a large crew and he would no be able to avoid contact, and breaking ice was the least he could do.

"I don't think any of us will be able to tell how bad it's going to be until the Commander catches on to what we're doing." He was being negative. Not the right way to 'break ice'. "Although we should be able to sugar coat everything long enough if we're careful." He stammered. No realising that he did so.

James rolled his eyes. "Well, fine. I'll go alone then."Hoping that his haste wouldn't get him killed, James set off down the stairs.

He walked for what felt like hours down the stairs and, when the stairs ended, he spent just as much time wandering the halls in search of a flight of stairs that would bring him to the lower levels. The bleeding on his back had ceased, but he could still feel a few lead pelets buried in his musle tissue, which caused him a great deal of discomfort. The gun he caried did little to alleviate it, but James knew that if he came under attack, he couldn't afford the extra seconds that it would take to ready the gun. And so he treked down the maze of hallways, wincing every few seconds from the spikes of pain that acompanied every step.

It was while walking in this fashion that James heard the scream. It was distorted by distence and echos of itself, but James knew that voice.

It was Kalade.

James started sprinting down the hall towards where he thought the scream had originated. He emerged into a room, it's impressive size only magnified by James' acoustomation to the close and narrow halls. There lay Kalade on the floor beneath the balcony, the large man standing above her crumped body. Kalade was alive, he could tell that much, but she was clearly injured. "Get away from her!" James shouted as he raised his shotgun and aimed it at Kalades attacker.

Now, James was all about adversity in the face of defeat and honor and all that, but he was also a fan of living. Thus he reluctantly handed over his gun and went to knell next to Kalade. "Are you aright?" He asked.

"A little sore but I'll live." She said, but to James she looked more than "a little sore." He turned to the devise.

"What is this thing?"

Gunfire and screams echoed through the Follower Kings halls. His men were being slaughtered by Thor's rampage. Everyone was being unnerved by the screams of the dying and now dead. "Kalade, I'm coming for you, where are you"! The echo of his call was drowned out by more gunfire.

James thought he understood what she was trying to do. "Yes mam, I believe we did." He turned to face the man on the balcony. "You'll have to excuse us, we didn't come down here expecting to fix anything this complex."

Thor knelt behind a corner. He could hear a large group of people traveling down his way and..... Limes voice. 'What are we talking about Lime". Thor had his blaster pistol raised. He'd run out of bullets for his rifle in the fights up to where'd he'd gotten to. And Kalade was with them. "Kalade. Finally, what did these motherless scum do to you"? He could see in the dim light one of her horns were broken.

Tom was running out of time. The Commander would be aboard any minute, and he'd have to leave the bridge. Lisa was running dozens of scans per second, trying to find the quickest route to the Follower's hangar. Layer upon layer of map sections and architectural designs skimmed past on the screen as Lisa systematically broke down the entire structure of the Follower's settlement. Staring absentmindedly at the screen, a layout of the ventilation system floated by. Maybe they could use the air vents... no, no that would be ridiculous. Stuff like that happened in stories with inordinately large shafts, not the modern micro-scaled units used now.

"Lisa, where are they now?" moaned Tom. It was hard to believe things had become as bad as they were in less than an hour. What a great way to kick off a New Year, he thought bitterly. Tom wondered if it was customary for Earthborns to celebrate with explosions and drunken violence.

"The away team is currently One Hundred Thirty Two meters away from the nearest evacuation shuttle. They appear to be in a central atrium area. Heat signatures indicate that the inhabitants have encountered the away team. I am currently performing electronic diagnostics on the unidentified members. Operative Thor is in a viable position for an ambush. I recommend relaying this message through to Operative Bergmann as well."

Tom flipped the comm switch. "You hear that, you two? Thor, get into position. James, keep an eye out for Thor's signal. Muokilaxes can take most of the heat, and then get the hell out of there. Follow these floor plans, and they should take you out towards the Hangar."

While Tom was occupied on the bridge, Commander Cerise had come aboard. Drawing the Star Brigade into one of the Alsvior's massive docking rings, an umbilical attachment connected the small courier to the gigantic warship.

Commander Cerise was a Crelm, and unusual for his/her species, she had a tendency to veer towards the female side of her hermaphroditic nature. On starships like these, she like the rest of her species had to wear specialized pressure suits in order to survive the dryer atmosphere. On the Star Brigade, Cerise was met by an entourage of crew members, who bowed in respect for the Commander.

She was the head of the Solanic Union's Diplomatic Corps, and she answered to the highest authority in the society. Her appearance on the ship was important, to say the least. She turned to a crew member standing rapt. "Ensign, show me to the conference chamber. I wish to speak with Captain Vance immediately."

"Yes ma'am, right this way." said the crew member smartly, setting off down the corridor. Good, thought Cerise. At least some of Captain Vance's men followed protocol. The group arrived at the conference chamber, where Captain Vance awaited with a number of humans and "aliens."

"Captain, explain this to me: why is Thomas Anderson part of your crew? You do realize his record is questionable at best, don't you?"

"Roger that." James whispered back to Tom. "Get ready to move." he told Kalade in an equally low voice. She mumbled an "OK" as James followed his own advise. He began to discretely look out for Thor's signal. Whatever he was going to do, James wished he would do it fast.

The Captain stared straight back at Commander Cerise, his eyes unblinking and his face devoid of emotion.

"Questionable yes ma'am but he's got good results in the past. This isn't a trade deal or palm-greasing we're walking into here, it's a potential war between species who for the large part aren't overly concerned about the S.U. We can't do this with diplomats who'll just phone it in. I also seem to recall that you reviewed all of my choices, didn't you?"

The Crelm grunted in response to this question.

"Are you going show me round then?" she asked briskly.

"Eh... well about that ma'am. You remember the leak report I sent an hour ago? Well we're still looking into now and it's a developing situation so I appointed these three corps to give you the tour while I continue with my work." Captain Vance gestuered to Mae, Til and Brian standing to his left. "Okay?"

"I suppose Captain, you better have this under control," she huffed and left the room accompanied by the three corps. The Captain audibly let out a sigh once the Crelm was out of earshot and then checked the new message on his PDA which had been quietly bleeping for the last minute.

Captain,

Please come down to the infirmary ASAP, urgent new findings on saboteur to discuss and other important updates too. Sad to report one fatality from the leak, Diplomatic Corp Kroaansokun-Thea, a Schrier involved in the SU/Tomahna Contact Program.

"Come on, come on, hurry up and get out of there!" muttered Tom, constantly checking on the monitor while he barricaded the bridge. With Lisa automating the controls in Thor's absence, the bridge was empty, save for Tom. He was currently trying to jam the doors so that Commander Cerise couldn't get through. Lisa popped up on the monitor again.

"Mr. Anderson, if I might-"

"Not now, Lisa! I've got to find something to seal the door with.... wait, how will that work? The doors slide into the wall!"

"I am merely suggesting-"

"Shut it, Lisa, I'm thinking! Hmm, maybe welding... now where the hell will I find an arc welder right now?"

"Look, all I'm saying is-"

"All I'm saying is be quiet! Hmm, what about blocking it with furniture? No, every damn thing is bolted down in here! What am I going to do?"

Lisa sighed, and her holographic image snapped its fingers. The access hatch to the bridge sealed shut, and the emergency bulkheads slammed into their joints, completely barricading the bridge. Tom jumped at the sudden sound, and turned to look at Lisa. "What, what did you just do?"

"If you had cared to listen, Mr. Anderson, I have complete control over the Star Brigade's security systems. If you so wish, I can seal off any part of the ship at will."

Tom frowned. "Wait, that sounds kind of dangerous. Wouldn't you need a voice code to activate something like that?"

Lisa flashed an ingratiating smile. "Yes, only Captain Vance can authorize such a procedure. I merely offered the option to you as a courtesy. Please continue running around panicking, if you so choose. Or you may go back to monitoring the away team, now that you have no need to worry about Commander Cerise interrogating you."

Tom huffed, and muttered under his breath. "Little smartass, so damn patronizing. I can see why Demexin doesn't like her."

"You do know I can still hear you, Mr. Anderson. And I relayed that last message to engineering."

"Oh you son of a *****!"
