Okay, let's forget about whether you think Star Wars or Star Trek is better...

Which franchise do you think has the better games?

Star Wars has:
Star Wars: Battle for Naboo
Star Wars: Battlefront
Star Wars: Behind the Magic
Star Wars: Droids
Star Wars: Empire at War
Star Wars: EaW - Forces of Corruption
Star Wars: Force Commander
Star Wars: Galactic Battleground
Star Wars: Gungan Frontier
Star Wars: Jedi Knight
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Star Wars: Monopoly
Star Wars: Pit Droids
Star Wars: Racer
Star Wars: Republic Commando
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Star Wars: Shadows o/t Empire
Star Wars: Star Fighter
Star Wars: The Phantom Menace
Star Wars: The Old Republic
Star Wars: X-Wing
Star Wars: Tie Fighter
Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Star Trek has
Star Trek: 25th Anniversary
Star Trek DS9: Dominion Wars
Star Trek DS9: The Fallen
Star Trek TNG: A Final Unity
Star Trek: Armada
Star Trek: Armada 2
Star Trek: Away Team
Star Trek: Birth o/t Federation
Star Trek: Bridge Commander
Star Trek: Elite Force 2
Star Trek: Hidden Evil
Star Trek: Judgment Rites
Star Trek: Klingon Academy
Star Trek: Klingon Honour Guard
Star Trek: Legacy
Star Trek: New Worlds
Star Trek: Starfleet Command
Star Trek: Starfleet Command 3
Star Trek: Elite Force
Star Trek: DAC

Personally, although both franchises have put out a lot of really crappy games, Star Trek games are better.

Star Wars has more games but Elite Force, Bridge Commander, 25th Anniversary, Judgment Rites and A Final Unity are all better games for me than what Star Wars has managed to put out. I haven't played The Old Republic but X-Wing and Tie Fighter are good and a lot of people like KOTOR (I don't).

I really hope you meant 'stuck'.

OT: Anyway, I don't have any Star-Whatever games as of yet, because I have never really been interested. My girlfriend has spoken to me about that MMO that's gone free-to-play. Kind of interesting, commanding a ship. Maybe, maybe not.

First of all, both franchises have produced mostly drivel when it comes to games.

Secondly, both have produced some great games. Star Wars has the Jedi Knight games, KotOR games, X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Empire at War (and Forces of Corruption), Republic Commando, X-Wing:Alliance. Star Trek has Bridge Commander, Elite Force, some of the old Adventure games. I suppose that some of the Starfleet Command games aren't bad either.

Personally, I've seen a greater number of good games from Star Wars, but I've also seen more games from Star Wars in general, so I'd say the overall ratio of good:crap is roughly the same.

Um... not much experience of either, save for their respective MMOs. I've been playing Star Trek Online over the last couple of days and I'm enjoying it. The starship combat is really good, and at times the game does have an authentic Trek feel to it.

But objectively I wouldn't say it's a better game than SWTOR.

Different styles, hey, where's Starfleet Command 3? The best spaceship simulator I've ever played?

I like Star Trek more than Star Wars, so I'm biased, but KOTOR 2 was still a good game, I also liked Elite Force 2.

Despite the fact that I love both series, these are the only ones off your list that I have played. However, you are missing what I consider to be some of the best from both series.

Star Wars: Demolition was a destruction derby style PS1 game using all sorts of vehicles from the Rancor to speeder bikes and on to AT-STs. I loved that game so much.

As for Star Trek. Another PS1 game, Star Trek: Invasion was also awesome. You flew small Valkyrie-class fighters (as well as some turret sections) as you operated from the USS Typhon, a fighter carrier that is tasked with stopping a mystical alien race called the Kam'jahtae. Awesome game.

OT: I would have to say that I prefer Armada 2 to Galactic Battleground. However, Battlefront 1 and 2 were so fantastic. I'm going to take the pussy option and declare this a draw.

There are some awful games in there, I'll admit. Star Trek: Legacy was one of the worst games I've played. There was also DS9 game for a console, think it might have been The Fallen, which was also terrible.

I have fond memories of A Final Unity and Judgement Rites, as well as Bridge Commander. I must play them again soon.

From what I played of KOTOR it was about as original as sliced white bread, except more boring and generic.

Yep, there are also a few old text adventures like The Promethean Prophecy [http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/207/Star+Trek+-+The+Promethean+Prophecy.html] (1986) and another ancient text game from 1971:

In terms of games I've played, the Star Wars franchise wins by miles;
Galactic Battlegrounds
Republic Commando
Battlefront
Battlefront 2
KOTOR
KOTOR 2
Jedi Power Battles

Admittedly, I've not played all the games held to be great. Unfortunately, Star Wars' victory is confiscated because practically every game since 2005 has been awful. Empire At War was an okay game, but the expansion was so dire as to bring it waaay down.

Good Star Trek games?
Star Trek Armada
Star Trek Armada 2

Then Activision decided they couldn't be arsed to keep the series going and pulled out, which was a shame because I really liked the series.
I played Star Trek: Online and although it did have a good character creation system and space combat was initially fun, overall it was a pretty big let down.
Admittedly I've not played as many Star Trek games, but those I have have been pretty meh.

My personal ratings. totals to:

SW (total 30):
14 good (46,666%)
6 mediocre (20%)
10 bad (33,333%)

ST (total 20):
6 good (30%)
7 mediocre (35%)
7 bad (35%)

So in conclusion, Star Wars licensed games are statistically better, at least concerning to my personal tastes.

EDIT: corrected a rating of a game. Judgement Rites was really good. the result is not changed substantially though.

Have to give it to Star Wars.

Battlefront games.
Battleground games.
Jedi Academy
KOTOR + KOTOR II
Demolition!
Republic Commando

Star Trek has had a couple of good games, but overall I just think there are more good SW games.

Now out of the list I have played quite a few of the Star Wars game series(meaning I have played the sequels as well):
Star Wars: Battlefront
Star Wars: Empire at War
Star Wars: Galactic Battleground
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Out of the Star Trek list, I have only played:

Armada and Armada 2.

I also played the Star Trek Online trial awhile back. I'm surprised you don't have that on the list, since really it is the only Star Trek game that has come out as of late, and it has been out for a good chunk of time.

Now I will say that I have spent a lot of time playing the Star Wars games, but even though my (ave played)Star Trek list is small, I feel it ties in the fun department.

The reason being that Star Trek Armada 2 was like "the game" of my PC gaming life before I stopped actually keeping my PC up to date with upgrades. I probably put as many hours into STA2 as I did in all those Star Wars games.

First I will point out that I purchased both Armada games at the same time.

Of course I was big into RTS games, and I felt that the first Armada was an okay first attempt, but it lacked spirit. The graphic made the ships look clunky and it felt dumb that I was moving star-ships that normally had warp drives, but they couldn't go to warp. They just lumbered along like any other normal moving unit in other RTS games.

To me, it was so miss handled, before I could even get anywhere near beating it, I just had to move onto Armada 2 to see what they had done different. I was pleasantly blown away.

The graphics of Armada 2 were good enough that I really couldn't see much edging on the ships, even when zoomed in close, and when zoomed in close the detailing was awesome.

It was great that planets finally played a role for things other than mining, now I could have a world that determined my population count and I could use them as base areas(meaning it looks neat to have a base around a functioning planet).

Also, having an armada actually felt like an armada, since the ship control at once count went up from 8 ships to 16. I could actually get a pretty nice varied fleet with multiple kinds of ships for different situations.

And finally, the thing that made the game phenomenal, my ships could actually go to warp, and warp actually had a nice amount of speed up compared to normal movement. They also made it interesting by throwing in the factors that ships couldn't go to warp in nebula and in the area around planets.

I ended up playing that game for several hours every day for months on end. Playing every faction and experimenting factions against other factions, and the combinations were bigger, since they made the Cardassians and Species 8472 playable factions.

Outside that, I also loved the lesser known free non-story expansion/sequel made by fans called fleet operations. It was a nice graphical update, though the game didn't have warp speed, but that was forgiven because it added the ability to play as the Dominion, and it had an amazing soundtrack, because it was made up of the theme music from all the ST:TNG movies. It also added a interesting feature, where after you picked the faction you want to play, just before the game starts, you pick from leaders, each faction had two leaders. Each leader had their own special points, like with the Federation, one admiral had the ability to construct a special kind of ship the other couldn't, and the other admiral gave a awesome boost to torpedo defense turrets.

But ya, because of my experience with the Armada series, I feel it has tided with my experience with the Star Wars games.

I remember hearing a few months ago that sometime after Christmas, STO was suppose to a free to play model. Has that happened yet, because I liked the game but I haven't had gaming money yet that I've been willing to purchase the game and a subscription.

I wanted to see if I could continue my character and crew centered around comedy and parody.

My captain looked like a young Wolverine and I had named my ship the USS. Wolverine. I liked the whole system where I could write my own log for missions and other things as well as supplemental logs for my main logs. It was actually the first MMO that I bothered to write back stories on characters. It was really fun to be creative and funny with the logs.

I've posted photos in another thread somewhere but I don't remember where, so I will do it here. I just loved my character and logs:

Bridge Commander change my life. It was what I wanted Starfleet Commander to be and I made lots of geeky friends online when I joined a clan (Oh SFX how I will miss you) in BC for its online capabilities. Not to mention the game had the largest modding community I have ever seen.

Knights of the Old Republic is amazing one of the best video games I have ever played, but if we are going by personal experience it just didn't change me as much as BC did.

Though now I'm in Old Republic so maybe that will change.

I love the hell out of that game. Granted my copy has so many mods it crashes about as often as I say "Make it So", but it is so much fun. Picard Vs Cylons who will win?

Though I think that Star Wars has, on the whole, the better lineup. There are lots of bad games either side, but with Gems like Battlefront, KotOR, and TIE Fighter, SW comes out on top.

Now if you'll excuse me I'm off to recreate the Wrath of Kahn battle using the 2009 Trek movie ships...

It went F2P on 17th of January (1701 being quite a significant number in Trek) You should be able to get your old character back but since STO has changed owners you might have to merge your existing account with a new account - I guess just see if your log in still works and if not I imagine the STO forums will explain how to merge them.

I liked the log, and the stuff about the Borg still attacking Vega made me chuckle. You've got to love the static nature of MMO worlds...

Star Wars is just easier to make a game for. Much of Star Trek is dialogue and problem solving and stuff that would be very hard to simulate in a video game while still keeping it fun. Even the ship to ship combat is far more complex than the "pew pew you're dead" style of Star Wars. So I think Star Wars games win by default because I've yet to see a Star Trek game that truly captures the "Trekness" of that universe.

Star Wars games.
Though to be fair I don't know of many Star Trek games beyond the mmo so this is quite biased.

Well the only Star Trek game I've played is Armada, which was ok.

I've played X Wing, Tie Fighter, Rogue Squadron, Rogue Squadron 2, Pod Racer, Shadows of the Empire, and most importantly (and not on the list): Super Star Wars on the SNES.

I'll go with Star Wars games.
