Star Wars. I find it far more interesting to watch intergalactic conflict than watch a group of people strive for intergalactic peace.

Star Wars FTW over Star Trek forever even with the stain of the newer ones.

As I grew older my tastes began to lean heavily towards Star Trek. The universe feels so much more natural and full of flavor, where Star Wars just seems cheap after a while. Even at its worst, Star Trek has never been truly embarrassing, unlike how George Lucas has essentially made a mockery of just about everything at this point.

I still enjoy Star Wars and Empire is still one of the best si-fi (or fantasy) films ever made, but man, nothing really compares to a good episode of Next Generation or even the original series. The scale it all is so much more impressive then some haphazard flashlight duel.

It's more credible, you can actually believe a lot of the stuff that's going on'there. First off, characters are actual characters with some depth to them, of which there isn't a single one on Star Wars.
Han Solo. He was just some ruffian caught up in something bigger than himself, and a huge part of Empire and even the end of Hope showed how we was growing as a character - and as a man - and learned to accept and embrace the bigger picture he was suddenly a part of. Also, there was that Leia babe to deal with.

There are more examples (Luke coming to terms with the Force and learning about Vader, the love triangle with Leia, etc) as well.

Granted, we're comparing apples to oranges here - Trek has a much easier time of this - by now, all the characters are set, defined and don't change, and as a TV series it has far more to work with.

The Original Trilogy, however, did amazing things with only about six hours character-wise.

Star Trek Episode in a Nutshell:

Redshirt: Hey Captain, this anomalous thing is gonna destroy the entire universe.

Engineer: Hey Captain, I just made this thing out of scrap parts 30 minutes before because I thought we might need it. All you gotta do is have Data hit the little button at the exact nanosecond.

Data: My positronic brain can influence the tachyons just outside of the ship and create a temporal paradox. When we collide it with the anomalous thing, it should create a quantum time fluctuation dialation with the neutrinos technobabbly....

Captain: PUNCH. THAT. SHIT.

I think I just quoted most episodes verbatim. Star Trek is the king os pseudoscience. At least Star Wars knows the stuff is impossible and makes no attempt to explain it.

Well first off don't bloody flame each other alright.

I like Star Trek better, for the simple reason that it seems slightly more realistic, although Humanity would probably not be the head of a Federation of Planets, more like the aliens from Independance Day(movie). And at least Star Trek is taking a chance by going back in time, don't mess with the classics some will say, well what possible harm could that do? I really don't like the original series because of the fact that i grew up with The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager, Enterprise was sweet(except that bloody opening credits music).

Star Wars is always the same, always always always, you look at the Empire under darth sideous and then you look at the republic from KOTOR, there is not that much of a difference here people, except for swords, because people will use a sword instead of a laser pistol. Plus theres the whole force thing, nice thought but it will never happen, same thing goes with light sabers. My opinion on remaking the original series: Wait until Lucas is dead, then go for it.
This is the Age old question. I guess I consider myself a little more of a Trekkie. I would have to agree with you that the characters in Star Trek are more Dynamic. It also seems more plausible although some things I think would take humanity much longer to develop, and how could something set in the past like Star Wars be so advanced? However there is one thing I have to give Star Wars and that is that they have more creative alien designs.

The original star wars are pretty much the greatest thing since God invented sex. But I think the writing in star trek is alot more intelligent and thoughtfull. plus star trek has continued to make decent stuff while the latest starwars films were like a reverse enema for my fanboy soul.

Oh, come now!

TOS gave us multiple planets with their own clones of the United States, American flags and all.

TNG gave us a warship/Loveboat, complete with an entertainment system that occasionally turns into a deathtrap or craps out sentient beings.

I don't belive they can really be compared. Star Trek is a prediction for the future while Star Wars is... well... ''in a galaxy far far away''. I almost agree with Nigh Invulnerable in that Star Wars is fantasy as aposed to science fiction. It's propablaly why is is superior as material for games than Star Trek (althougth elite force isn't bad). People seem compelled to compare them due to the obvious similarity between names. The fact is, they are both prime examples of what they are. They do a good job at what they attempt to do which is different for each.

Star Wars is ftw. Han and Chewy > anything in Trek. Also Storm Troopers have damage amplifying armour, which is genius.

I'm gonna add a third option just to be snobby and say Dr. Who > Star Trek/Wars.
You pretty much hit the nail on the head. Dr. Who is going to be more creative than either of these shows because they can do literally anything they can think of because the guy can go anywhere.

And if you stand the good doctor next to almost any character in either of these series they will look like cardboard cutouts.

I also think star wars is action and trek is drama. But trek has more of a real world tone to it. and Wars has more of this action packed saga. I prefer wars over trek anyday but that cause I don't have the patience to watch trek its too slow. But also alot of our modern day technology is based off star trek ideas.

All you folks lamenting the death of Firefly should think long and hard about the evolution of Star Wars and Star Trek (or Babylon 5 or Terminator or Larry Niven's Known Space or any number of other things, for that matter).

It's like the old guy(*) said, "Sometimes, dead is better".

Star Wars, hands down. SW tells an epic story, the most epic ST gets ouside of the movies was Shatner. Though sadly I do have to agree with the earlier statement that RL Patrick Stuart would whip RL Mark Hamill hands down. In charachter though Jedi Master Luke Sywalker FTW.

And why does everyone have to bash Ep's 1-3? There was not a damn thing wrong with them.

Edit: Since the OP went ahead and pulled KOTOR into this, he went ahead and opened this up to include Expanded Universes too. Since I haven't read much ST I can't speak to it, but if he want's to complain the SW is always the same then may he (and all other naysayers) should try the SW universe post EP6. It just keeps getting even more awesome.

Trek minus Enterprise and the films.

As much as I like (nay, love) Star Wars the sheer quantity of Star Trek wins me over. Hundreds of 40 minute episodes compared to three 2 hours films.

It really is quantity for me because I rate them about equally in quality.
