Its going to be a copy of War hammer crash, Only wow has perfected the MMO style game.

1 year after its out there will be 100,000 people playing maximum

I saw the game play, its stiff and unnatural, not like the smooth game play WoW has, even though wow is a bad game this wont make people turn over
Final Fantasy XI still had 500,000 subscribers after 6 years on the market, and it's still turning in profit after 2 more.

You must not have seen the same gameplay I have. There is a very nice video on YouTube that highlights just how superior TOR's character animation is compared to WoW's.
Im pretty sure animation is a part of graphic not gameplay.

I'm ignoring a powerful urge to go nuts as a superhero in DCUO for TOR's sake. Looking forward to it.
Go nuts dude, it's going to be a while.

One of the general problems with Warhammer Online was that it just wasn't all that interesting beyond Warhammer fans. To a lot of people(including me), it just looked like another Medieval MMORPG trying to move in on WoW's success.

This has a lot more going for it.
like what? being for star wars fans?
Star Wars is a lot more mainstream than Warhammer, and as such appeals to more people through brand name alone. Not just the nerds, but also regular film buffs and the Clone Wars kids.

Then there's the general BioWare fans. If they like Mass Effect or Dragon Age, odds are they'd like TOR too.

Finally, MMO players who are simply looking for a new MMO experience.

Half a million over ten years? Not gonna happen.

I'd imagine you'd get a million on the first 6 months of release, but after that....major drop off.

Graphics are what you see when you watch gameplay footage, and you'd be a fool to think that graphics (such as character battle animations) don't have impact on the gameplay.

if the forums are any indication i would say this game can make it's target of 500.000 consumers (right now it has around 1 mil forum-subscribers)i hope it will do well even against all the negative press it's been getting.can't see why people claim it is going to fail (except for the idea that it is just another wow-clone) because it's Star Wars made by Bioware and funded by EA. also in the conference call it was made clear that swtor in fact didn't cost 300 mil to make and that random gamer blogs are not a vallid source of information.

That should be sustainable. It probably won't take anything away from WoW but I think this game has the potential to find its niche and be quite succesful on this muderous market.

I hope it will succeed. I don't want EA to suffer any more losses and wither and die beneath Activision's milking tendencies.
If either dies we all win.

And I have to say 500,000 users over 10 years is optimistic to say the least ... The game has to be absolutely epic on all fronts. I just don't quite see that happening. Not on Bioware's first time at bat with MMO's. And especially not with the half-assed rail space shooter they've slapped into it. They would have been better to have left it out completely.

500.000?

Yeah right. This is going to be a disaster of... not of APB proportions, but bigger.

100K? Yes.
200K? Maybe.
500K in a year, let alone ten years? Not a hope in hell.

This has pretty much confirmed my worst fears for this game. They're aiming too high in a market that's saturated and still adapting to the F2P boom. The pity of it is that a high profile crash like this one will make a lot of companies reconsider the expense of future AAA MMOs.
I'll reiterate that Final Fantasy XI, which isn't the best of MMOs, still had over 500k subscribers after 6 years. The idea that similar results wouldn't be possible for TOR is ludicrous.

I'd say you're incorrect here. If even a niche, hardcore MMO like EVE Online can have 300k+ subscribers, a MMO with more mainstream appeal like TOR can certainly maintain a a playerbase of 500k.

Edit: looks like I was ninja'd, albeit with a different example.

Im sorry but this game is just a generic MMO that copied Oblivion or mass effect in the story telling, it has a UI just like WoW even the targeting system is WoW.

I assumed it would be a FPS or TPS but no its just a target and click 12121212121212 win

This game is not a big lose if it fails, it will teach people to stop copying WoW because im really sick of people that try to say the game is new when i see 500 of the exact same game over and over.

Not a big lose, better if company's learn from this rather then to see it succeed

They even have mana.....really new huh....

Also why do MMOs always put skills on 1234567890?? cant the defult be E Q CTRL SHIFT R T F C V just saying its way more ergonomic then to have it be 123456789 when i move with wsad

I don't know what you naysayers are going on about. This is Star Wars we are talking about. One of the largest and most dedicated fandoms in the bloody world. It is like Yahtzee said, the fanboys will defend their products to the death.

Getting 500000 star wars fanboys is not a great challenge. Even less so is keeping their interest, given that we lap up every scrap of Star Wars thrown at us.

I won't play it. That's not a judgment against the game, its graphics, its promise or anything else. I just don't play MMO's. I don't have the time or the patience, and I don't like paying a subscription fee.

There are many people like me. We loved KOTOR, we saw the lost potential and mourned KOTOR2, but we will not play TOR. I just hope LucasArts isn't counting on me to play.

If I was into MMO's, I would already play WOW. TOR is going to have to convert WOW players, because those who don't play WOW probably won't play TOR, even if it's related to KOTOR1+2.

And honestly, just because it has a similar interface to most other MMOs doesn't make it a WoW clone (and honestly. Worldbuilding, style, and character class systems are what make MMOs, much more than their interface, and I'd say it looks like TOR is different enough in those respects that it isn't a WoW clone.

And you're complaining about mana? Mana/energy has been in almost every RPG ever (even before wow!) because it is a solid game mechanic and there is no reason to go without it if you have a system in which resource management adds depth.

Half a mill? Never going to happen. Should have went with the free-to-play model with a cosmetic store for revenue, THEN it might have made it.
