They can at least say they have one fan that will subscribe to this. I just wonder how I can get 499,999 other people to buy it...

I personally think this is nearly impossible.

I mean in the beginning sure. And later 300 thousand if you count credit botters and fans... But 500,000 people playing for a year...?

Its going to be a copy of War hammer crash, Only wow has perfected the MMO style game.

1 year after its out there will be 100,000 people playing maximum

I saw the game play, its stiff and unnatural, not like the smooth game play WoW has, even though wow is a bad game this wont make people turn over
When did you see the gameplay?

You know it's NOT OUT YET right?

looks generic right?

Final Fantasy XI still had 500,000 subscribers after 6 years on the market, and it's still turning in profit after 2 more.

You must not have seen the same gameplay I have. There is a very nice video on YouTube that highlights just how superior TOR's character animation is compared to WoW's.
Im pretty sure animation is a part of graphic not gameplay.
Graphics are what you see when you watch gameplay footage, and you'd be a fool to think that graphics (such as character battle animations) don't have impact on the gameplay.
Both graphic and sound have a fairly big impact on gameplay but good graphic doesn't always improves the gameplay sometime it just makes it worse. For example, too flashy graphic only makes the game harder to contrul. It is pretty hard to say whether the graphic renforce the gameplay or weaken it without playing.
What I'm saying is good graphic doesn't automatic result good gameplay or improve the gameplay.

to begin with this walkthrough is nearly 2 years old
secondly, this combat looks like the combat style of KoTOR, the turn-based that actually looks good.

it looked pretty good to me, and as others before me mentioned KoTOR fans + Star Wars fans + New MMO seekers creates a very nice opening group of subscribers. SWG did pretty well to begin with. Bioware's challenge is not going to be in getting subscribers, but keeping them.

actually they also might want to take a caveat from anarchy online and make sure that their servers can handle opening day

It'll easily do half a million because it's Star Wars, World of Warcraft managed like 12 million subscribers at one point and WoW doesn't even have the words 'Star' or 'Wars' in it's title.

But seriously I hope this games good I really do, but hey I trust that Bioware know's what they're doing, they've made some of my favourite games ever.

A few people have commented on the graphics of TOR though, don't you see thats the secret to WoWs success. If you have comparatively weak but incredibly clever graphics any computer can run the program comfortably. There is no need to spend £1000+ on a computer just to play them damn thing.

I can not believe how many people saying half a million is a big deal for a Starwars MMO made by bioware.

This game is going to sell, and it's going to sell very well. I'm not even talking about subscriptions over time, I mean this game will sell 2 million copies the first year easy, maybe even the first quarter it comes out.

I have a bit of a bad taste left in my mouth from WoW but this is an MMO i'm going to buy.

This or guild wars 2....hmmmm....
I'm actually considering getting both of them :D... I keep myself from subscribing from more than 1 game at a time, but as GW2 won't have a subscription fee I can keep to my rule and still have both :)

Nothing harmful with cautious optimism. Blizzard has had years to round the edges of its MMO. With user feedback from the beta and in-game reports the game will hopefully do well.

If done correctly, it shows great promise. Bending over for WoW just because it's WoW and not supporting something else for trying something new isn't exactly open-minded. Give it a chance, Bioware is new the table and could bring a lot of great things to the MMO genre.

I'd be looking forward to it more if it weren't for the $15 per month fee. I'll probably sit out for a few months and see how it does before I shell out for it.

500,000 at launch is easy.

Unless TOR is going to be a godsend to the MMO market (hint: it won't), it will not have that many subs after a few years.

What does it have? STORY!

I know it's tired by now, with Bioware hyping it constantly, but the story in SW:TOR is on par with KOTOR.

Also, the idea that people play one MMO, and nothing else, is pretty damn outdated. I have at least 2 pay to play subs and 2-3 f2p subs at any given time. Most of the gamers I know do as well - Star Wars fandom is generally a bit older, in the group of people who don't stress over paying $45 a month for a few games.

And that is really all I have to say to Bioware because Force knows George Lucas doesn't care anymore.

I've played the game, and it doesn't feel stiff and unnatural at all.

OT: This game will get 500,000 subscribers pretty easily.
It is Star Wars, after all.
