The SSV Alamo.

Why? Becuase If I were to be a hypothetical Spaceship captain, I would be so, in the Mass Effect Universe, flying a Frigate class ship. Said ships are always named after great historical warzones.
Why would your want to name your ship after a defeat?
I'm not American. To me, it wasn't a defeat; It was a battle. It was one of the most famous battles in Human history, in fact, so the Alliance decided to name a ship after it, becuase the (Human) Systems Alliance......isn't America......

And how can a battle be a "defeat"? One side always Wins. Just because that side (in this case) WASN'T America, doesn't change that rule.

It is a defeat that won the war for America. Sort of like how the last stand of the 300 Spartans was a defeat, remember as a defeat even to people who aren't Greek.

Also...it isn't an American battle, it is a Texan Battle.

It would be a massive ship (Think Battlestar Pegasus on steroids) with huge amounts of firepower.

I will name it "Nothing." Why, you may ask? Imagine the conversation:

Captain: Who's attacking us?"
Radar operator: "Nothing"
Captain: "Then what's that hitting us if nothing is attacking?"
Radar operator: "No, the Nothing is attacking us. That's the name of the ship."
Captain: "Well, why didn't you..." and the ship blows up.

It would be hilarious.

My very own Battlestar? I'll call her Chimera and I'll keep her in good shape, oh yes.

Or alternatively a Glorious Heritage class ship. Beteigeuze sounds good.

That's an unfair comparison becuase the opposing faction in the battle of Thermopylae .....isn't actually alive anymore (Iran doesn't exactly count). It's like how you can safely call the Normandy landing a "victory" because the Third Reich no longer exists, and thus can't say "Now Wait, just a minute..."

On the other hand, to a Patriotic Mexican, the fall of the Alamo may well be considered a historical victory. One such Mexican might appeal to have that Victory-to-him immortalized as a multi-billion credit Warship? The problem here, being that you're speaking in "cultural terms" whilst I'm speaking totally Objectively.

And Damn, Now that you mention it, SSV Thermopylae would have been an AWESOME name for the ship. Better than Alamo at least. Wish I'd thought of that sooner. Ah well :/

I don't know why you would say Thermopylae and the Alamo are unfair comparisons. Most, if not all, historians feel that those two battles are very compatible.

And yes the Thermopylae does sound like a better ship name all together. Maybe because Thermo makes it sound sciencie.

If my ship is for exploring then I'll call her Pathfinder or Stargazer.
If my ship is a battleship then I'll call her Defender or Valour.

Another one. If I was going to have a battleship with a fleet of some sort, she would be named Patriot and would be the best damn ship in the navy. My preferred weapons are cannons but some forward torpedoes would be nice. Give me serious shields with fast regeneration and good armor too while you're at it!

also how are you going to be stealthy in space, painting the ship black isn't going to do it you know
Shh, just quietly turn on some passive thermal sensors why the "sneaky" black ships tries to close to visual range where color scheme might actually matter.

No, you're right, those battles are, strategically and historically very similar. I'm just talking about the cultural ramifications. As in, Is it fair to call Alamo a "defeat" when the prevailing side is still alive and kicking.

Instead of calling it Thermopylae, I could go with what they said in the 300 movie: Not Thermopylae, but "Hot Gates"......which sounds like "Hot cakes"

...and let's be honest here, who wouldn't wanna fly an "Interstellar warship called Hot Cakes"!

"The Indivisible Wang"

It's made of solid gold.

And the first time we enter a planet's atmosphere we melt into a horrifically-stylin' slab of bling.

The Empyreal lance.
A bit cheesy, but hey, it's a starship!

Probably a militarystandard flagship, considering it has to be a ship fitting the name.

Sign me up for the SSV Hot Cakes sailor. We will win this war in style!

Also, can't help it, but Thermopylae is Greek for Hot Gates, what is why they keep calling it that in 300.

I'm definitely the sneaky murder someone when they can't see you type, so i'd definitely go with a stealth ship like the Normandy SR-2. As for the name, i'd go an extra mile and quote a George Carlin joke, calling the ship Howling Moon and giving my ship a motto "There are nights when the wolves are quiet and only the moon howls."
...wait, stealth ship named after a loud noise? Never mind, that's exceptionally retarded. And i can't call it Hoshi after my dog because naming a starship after the Japanese word for saw would just be stupid.
...i'd call it the SSV St. Louis, sticking with the ME rules that frigates are named for cities. I'd use the recon capabilities and artificial intelligence and virtual intelligence support to act like the Special Tasks Group meets the Shadow Broker, using information on enemy movements to demonstrate my superiority and basically extort them so that i don't blow their asses off form orbit, or use that information to blow their asses off when they think they're alone and safe. Cruel, yes, but hey, Starcraft II players need to learn the hard way that there is more to strategy than ordering troops to their death from a space telescope.

I'd call it Boatmurdered. It has carvings of flaming dwarves on it. It has carvings of murderous elephants on it. The dwarves are in feutal position. The elephant strikes a menacing pose.

It would menace with spikes and ringed with bands of onyx.
