Like I said in a similar thread.

I need a proper computer first, and I already have it on the 360.
Urm, any computer built in the last six years can probably run it.
Yeah but I lack an actual computer. I only own 5 laptops and only one of them would possibly work.

Whatever, I already have it for the 360 and I'm perfectly fine with it.

Will a bog-standard Macbook be able to run many of the games though? Monkey Island, Sam & Max etc...
I had it running on my MacBook late 2006 1.8GHz C2D GMA950.
Of Course you get a really low framerate it´s playable ok, nothing decent of course.
Also the X3100 is not supported but it runs.
with the M9400 you should have some decent performance.
But with any MacBook you will need at leat 2GB of RAM.

besides that: YES!!!!!!
I found the Mac steam Client with the free Portal offer, which I already owned because of Orange Box. and when I installed it my earlier Porta, Braid, Osmos and Torchlight where already waiting for me. And run like charme.

Just great!
Awesome, cheers!

So, is TF2 eventually going to be Mac-compatible? And if so, are we PC gamers actually going to be playing TF2 with Mac owners?

Hmm... this should be interesting.
Oh dear lord, it would be sheep among the wolves! Those poor Mac owners, never having played a decent game in their lives not made by Blizzard......it will be slaughter!
That is affirmative partners. It has been confirmed that the Mac version of TF2 will be compatible with the Windows version and the servers will be the same. Everyone playing TF2 on Windows or Mac OS will be playing together. It's even been covered by the Escapist some time ago, can't be bothered to find the link though.

Depends when your Macbook is from. I'm using a Macbook (Late 2009) and this runs source games on medium settings with a decent framerate, that was through bootcamp though, and I'm still waiting for Portal to download because of the epic server loads.

Yeah all the source engine games are going to be mac-compatible (I think). They're releasing them one week at a time, TF2 definitely is though because that was in beta last week, and I think still could be, so you may well have already been playing with some Mac TF2 players.

Thank you thank you thank you!

Finally I can play something on my mac!

Also, does steam cost $$ to install?
Steam is absolutely free and amazing.
The Mac version is a duplicate of the windows version so it has a kind of "windowsy" UI which you may need to adjust to.
Thanks, installing now!
Also I am used to windows, I've been a mac/pc user my whole life, I just had my PC kick the bucket last year and couldn't justify buying a new one when I already had a mac as well.

Why not just sign up for Steam, snag the game and then if you get a computer to run it later you have the game for free?

YES!

I have Windows installed on my Mac so I can dual-boot, so I've played Portal before. There are just too many good games for Windows to be a Mac-only gamer. But now ... with Valve joining Blizzard in Mac support, maybe the times of repetitive reboots are coming to an end.

This, my friends, is the start of something glorious.

Hold on a second...

You're saying there are people who own a PC and haven't played Portal?
I've played it on the Xbox 360 and didn't like it. And I have a PC and I haven't played it on the PC.

Note to would-be Mac players: For better graphics in Portal, go to the Advanced Video settings and turn off Color Correction. You'll need to do some trial and error with the other settings as well, but that alone makes a world of difference.

It's quite fitting that this be Valve's first Mac game, since Aperture Science is the Apple to Black Mesa's Microsoft.

I thought steam coming to mac meant I was getting all the games that were on steam, but in reality it pretty limited, but hey free portal so why not.

I've just tried to download Portal. My video card isn't strong enough or something. I'll try on a bigger Mac.

Note* I'm looking foward to Team Fortress 2 on my Mac. I could finally do some headshots on a few Escapist members :)
