Bad Company 2?
Like COD?
Give me a fucking break, will you...
It removed everything that was annoying about COD to me.
No more being able to survive getting hit by a rocket launcher by standing behind a garbage bin.
No more overpowered weapons that ruin the game completely.
No more rounds that depend on one guy getting a tactical nuke and the rest just running across the map like idiots.
NO MORE CAMPING.
Is Bad Company 2 any good? Was thinking of getting it and your post may have just helped with that ;D

And if anything, COD has been taking what other games do and just improved it... So it's not that games are trying to be a COD clone...It's that COD is cloning sections of games and making it good...well some features anyway.

Although that was a loooooooooooooooooooooooong time ago, and i can see your point...although Black Ops have taken things from other games, theatre mode etc...

i dno where i am going with this, it's just all games copy each other...

I was going to reply something similar to what everybody else is saying, then I saw this post:

Also, Halo is better. So is Bioshock.
So basically...What he said. Apart from the Bioshock bit, I hated that game *Hides behind flame-shield*.

Wow they sure are generous with the usernames said:
imho each genre of game should have one game. WoW for MMO's, Madden for sports, Civ 5 for RTS, CoD for everything else, etc. every year there should be a competition to determine which single game would be played over the year, and it would be a tournament style gladiatorial arena between the lead designers of different games. think thunderdome but nerdier.

Edit: actually just think thunderdome
Civ is a RTS? what?...

How did I prove your point? It was realistic to an extent. I never said it was reality to a tee I said it was vaguely realistic. The CoD series was also supposed to be semi realistic to a point where you need a certain degree of suspension of disbelief or atleast that is how it started. I never said it was Arma or Flashpoint.
Every game is realistic "to an extent"... the CoD series has always pushed these extents pretty far, and MW2 took realism and shat on it, covered it with honey, and put it in a beehive.

Oh look, a 40 MM grenade just blew me up behind that wall... Not that BC2 is any more realistic in that aspect though.
I was talking about the real CoD games and not spin offs.

Yes, because Call of Duty is a flawless game that cannot be improved upon and came up with all of its concepts itself - of which all other games with similar styles are obviously copying from.

-_-

No. Just no.
Well your right, it could be better. The only thing I have against CoD killers is that they always seems to be much worse, but the developers decide to ship it anyway. For some reason they never seem capable of grasping that if you're going to make a clone it damn well better be superior to the original. That's how CoD got ahead. It did excactly what MoH did just much much better.

Step 1 to a bad argument - comparing to something different.

Taipan700 said:
I rented out and played Medal of Honour recently, along with Killzone 2 and Bad Company to see how they stacked up, and by comparison they were just awful. Sure, maybe they wouldnt be so bad if I didnt have something better to compare them to, but for christ sake they bored me.
Check. Out of the games you used as examples two are by the same developer - DICE, if you didn't like one why would you like the other one? And none of those games are designed to be a carbon copy of CoD's gameplay. Also you went into these games to compare them up against a game you like - that will instantly make your own opinion biased as you're trying to set the bar too high for them

Step 2 - using easily fixable problems as points or just irrelevant

Taipan700 said:
Aiming the weapons was a sluggish chore, point blank hails of bullets took a solid 6 seconds to bring down an enemy, the close combat animations were lame
Check. If you find aiming slow turn up sensitivity and if you think people die too slowly play hardcore modes. And as far bad close combat animation who actually watched animations closely enough to care?

Step 3 - Bandwagon

Taipan700 said:
Is anyone else sick and tired of hearing about "COD killers" and just wish these bland imitations would stop so new first person shooters could just be good on their own merit, or is it actually possible to knock COD off its perch with a new title?
Granted these games (minus killzone) did get branded a threat to CoD like you said they are designed to play differently, they aren't copies just games set in the same setting that play in a different way. According to this we aren't allowed to make any shooters set in current times or they are copying CoD now

Step 4 - the piece de la resistance. Quote Yahtzee like he's a historical figure

Taipan700 said:
As Yahtzee once said, popular things are often popular for a reason, because they are good.
Every time I see someone doing this I groan and know it'll be an argument with nothing behind it. It's the same as his videos nothing behind it but misplaced hate with the occassional dick joke thrown in. Don't quote Yahtzee he isn't god, he isn't a reviewer, he's just someone who makes criticising videos in an attempt to make people laugh

Also I liked Bad Company 2, never played Killzone 2 and hated Medal of Honour so no fanboyism involved

Wait, CoD MW2 makes BC 2, MoH, and Kz2 look awful? Well in my opinion MoH and BC2 are way better than the mediocre CoD MW2. Haven't played much of of Kz2, but from what I played it is way better that CoD MW2.

Haha, I don't like Modern Warfare 2, because I think that's the one you're talking about. I did however like COD 1-3, WAW and Black Ops looks really good and inventive for the series.

ive played a few games recently and the only one that i think is on par with cod is moh, except for the snipers.

moh is like a fast pace americas army. moh i think would be better than cod if it wasnt for the spawn, walk 5 meters while in cover and still manage to get sniped thing.

and who buys cod or moh for the story. these are multiplayer games with a 5 hour single player tutorial. not single player games.

i think if cod made a whole series of maps and game modes based around spawning at a base instead of spawning all around the map, they would attract alot of the battlefield people. my brother and i played cod but my brother is a little cry baby who cant handle spawning in different spots or having enemies being able to spawn behind him or even in a different direction. so if cod made a mode that has the same spawn system as moh then moh would just not exist.
Yeah, random spawning always pissed me off, I'd entrench myself in the enemies base only to have all the spawns switch sides...

I disagree with you. I enjoy Medal of Honor, Killzone 2 and Bad Company 2 more than Modern Warfare 2. I find myself only going onto Modern Warfare 2 because my mates are on and I'd rather play in a social environment.

I would of agreed had you restructed your argument and instead said that it's pointless going up against Call of Duty because economically, and psychologically, you are destined to fail. It's like all MMOs which go up against World of Warcraft.

Economically because everyone has already bought Modern Warfare 2 and their presupposition will be that all competitors are inferior. Psychologically because everyone and their mates will already have Modern Warfare 2 as the established franchise for them to interact in a virtual context.

Are you kidding? Everyone hates Halo around here; you'll be fine. I'm the one who needs a flame shield.

I recently played through Medal of Honor. The campaign was good, and the multiplayer seemed to be a kind of happy medium between BFBC2 and MW2. Conceptually, at least.

I happen to enjoy these kinds of arcadey military shooters, and almost exclusively for the single player campaigns... so the more the merrier in my opinion.

CoD is a twitch shooter, that anyone can pick up and play and do decent as long as they have played any outher shooter out there. KZ2 was clunky as hell. BFBC2 was awesome and actualy required some teamplay to win and not just a guy running rambo. MoH felt just like MW2
Im not saying CoD is bad but it just fits the mold and dosent do anything to go beyoned, and its hyper twitch gameplay just dosent suit my style for a long term play so to mean they are not that good when i could easly go play BF2 BFBC2 Tf2 or Arma and have millions of times more fun then i ever had in the new cod games

Well...if Activision didn't make it so easy to challenge, I mean, just by making a balanced game and you step on Call of Duty's toes.
