The alliances between Germany and Austria were more culturally inspired than political. You know, brothers of the same Germanic race (just like Russia who came to the aid of its Slavic brothers, the Servians). Most likely whoever would have taken Wilhelm's place would have done the exact same thing.

It is an interesting idea though, what would have happened without Wilhelm?
It was mentioned in another post that countries were way more nationalistic back then, which was where the alliances came from. I think it was in the reply to that post that I said that we shouldn't get bogged down with the endless possibilities of what would happen. It is an interesting thought though.

yeah, that's about it. Now, can you stop WW I -without- killing him? Assassination's are generally frowned upon during peacetime.
Probably not. It was a hereditary autocracy so the only real way would be to either kidnap him, kill his father or mother or hold a revolution. The first would probably end with you being caught, the second is still killing in peace time and the third would change everything all over again.

March 7, 1936 - Hitler sends an armed force to the demilitarized Rhineland.
March 8, 1936 - Alfred Jodl's report changes from "The French covering army would have blown us to bits," to "The French covering army blew us to bits. I messed myself."
March 9, 1936 - Hitler, seeing that the French and British will not stand for his bullcrap, loses confidence in his ability to conquer Europe. Germany becomes an economic power, content to make consumer goods rather than wage war. Everyone celebrates. There is cake.

1) Hitler (according to his own book) didn't want to conquer Europe, he wanted to eliminate the Soviet Union. He attacked Poland to get a wider border against the Soviets (which is why he did not mind them having the eastern half of the country) and only ended up in a war against Britain and France because they were trying to save Poland. A serious backlash against a militarized Rhineland might have put him off because he thought he needed to be able to defend his industrial base while he attacked in the East, but eventually he'd have gone ahead anyway, simply without attacking Poland first and working only with the slim border available into the Baltic States through East Prussia.

2) Your assertion doesn't address Japan's wishes to become the British Empire of the Pacific.

I was going to suggest directing an asteroid towards central Europe. Sorry central Europe. But it sets the stage for a fantastic retro space race future. Our story starts with Duran Duran opening up a concert at the Olympus Mons megadome in 1984...

Allie America with Japan and Germany from the outset.
America was dead set to stay out of it, if the British sank that American boat instead of the Germans they would of axied up. Thats what broke Germany exceptional equipment and manufacturing ability just doesn't stack up when your up outnumbered 4 to one.

Not force Germany to pay ridiculous reparations after WWI. A war it didn't even start. No hard feelings, no Hitler, no war.
A page 1 /thread here. If it weren't for the ridiculous punitive clauses in the Treaty of Versailles, Germany would have avoided the ridiculous depression which ultimately led to Hitler's rise to power. Not that they wouldn't have had a depression after the first World War, but it wouldn't have been as bad as it was. The German great depression made the American version look like a minor recession by comparison.

March 10, 1936 - Hitler, seeing that France and Britain would not stand for his bullcrap, goes with his second Idea and starts the Holocaust early. The other world leaders don't care because of their own Depression and because of Germany's lack of aggression, and all the German Jews die within several years.

March 8, 1940 - Fallowing Hitler and Mosselini's steps, most of Europe and even the US Start fallowing Facist policies to get rid of their debt.

December 1941 - Japan attacks the US, US fights Japan

March 1945 - US Conquers Japan and takes it over. US goes full Fascist with Roosevelt as their Dictator.

1950 - Most of Europe is Fascist or Communist.

OT: Keep everyone else out of a war that should have been between Austria and Serbia, no one else.

I like how lots of people think that killing Hitler would end WWII.

I mean, I guess if you kill him early enough in his life it would work. Though that might be kind of mean since in his youth he was just an abused child who loved Germany and had some anti-semitic tendencies along with a lot of other people during that time period.

And if you killed him once he became leader of Germany, WWII would have probably happened anyway with some varied shit in the mix like German nukes or Nazi dinosaurs or something.

Here are my plans for it:

A. Delay Archduke Franz Ferdinand so he isn't assassinated or just kill him myself. (If some random guy nobody knows about kills him instead of a Bosnian nationalist, then there would be no cause to act on all those hidden alliances that were so popular at the time.)

B. Delay or kill Princip. Self explanatory right there

C. Get Hitler accepted into art school. He's happy as a slightly mediocre painter and never acts on any hatred of the Jewish people. Nor does he spread the idea of violent nationalism and global takeover.

D. Somehow convince the League of Nations to enforce the restrictions on Germany and stop them from building up a military or taking back any of the land lost in the treaty of Versailles.

E. Based on plan D, I could try and influence the writing up of the treaty of Versailles so it doesn't financially rape Germany or make it lose all of its land.

-----

EDIT: Completely forgot about Japan. Ummm... no clue. At least with any of the above steps followed, the inevitable war with Japan won't be as difficult.

I guess someone could send troops and funding for China and Manchuria that still involves some bloodshed to end the war early plus a more heavily militarized China.

On the other hand, maybe with there being no WWII raging in Europe, there would be more oil resources available to the Japanese so they wouldn't have to invade Vietnam (French Indochina) and get slapped with an embargo.

Simple don't impose such harsh terms onto the Germans with the treaty of Versailles after the first world war. Germany would have been a much more stable place and its people wouldn't have turned to a radical for hope. Done one move and no deaths do I win?

Shoot hitler.

Convince world leaders that Germany cannot be responsible for all the debt of WWI at this time and need to recover their economy.

Problem solved.

If you're talking about avoiding any war at all then I don't have a solution, because I don't know enough about the Pacific theater. If you're talking about avoiding a world war, it could easily have been avoided if England and France had aggressively denied German rearmament. Germany really had no army at all in the 1930's. If England and France had said "hell no" when German had begun rearming, they could easily have stopped it.
Taking it a step further, even with the beginning of German rearmament England France could easily have stopped Germany from remilitarizing the Rhineland and taking the Sudetenland. Hell, with a little bit of support Czechoslovakia could almost have stopped Hitler by itself in 1938.
