Strange Friendships You've Had

Have you had any friendships which would seem to be just odd, in their existence? Like with somebody that you should really be sworn enemies with, but instead are the best of friends.

For example, I have a friend who is ardently communist, as opposed to me, and is a vain, self-centred ocassionally pompous arse, like me. We constantly insult each other in numerous ways, and generally give off the appearance to less-known acquaintances that we despise each other. In reality we are great friends, and we actually enjoy insulting each other, putting on a show as it were to others.

As I said before, I would like to know if anyone else has a friendship which in most aspects would be considered impossible in its very existence?

I was friends with a boy who liked to draw people and buildings. I'd just sit with him for ages and he'd draw anyone interesting who came near us or whatever building took his fancy. And if no-one else was there I'd pull a stupid face and he would draw that.

We actually had nothing in common, but it was just so nice!

One of my best buddies is an extremely devout Christian, while I'm a total atheist.
We talked about religious stuff a little until we decided that neither could convince the other and now the subject doesn't even come up anymore, except sometimes in jest.

I was betrayed by someone and saw them as my enemy for a long time.
I don't know what then happened, but it's ended at the stage where I would give my life to protect them :p
damn these confusing enemy to ally happenings!

I have a friendship with someone who's a literal homophobe. He get's antsy if another male so much as touches him. So obviously I exploit this mercilessly. It started when I hugged him and he screamed. I later proposed to him. we're friends in as much as he can usually stand me, and he hasn't killed me yet.

I had a friend once who did nothing but insult me. I got sick of it and told him if I ever saw him again I'd kick his teeth in, and everyone acted like I was acting like a loony and that the little shit head did nothing wrong and I should have stayed friends with him. to which I took it back, but then he started up again with the insults so now I'm no longer friends with that punk and I rarely talk to the friends who thought I was being unreasonable anymore

I'm align my self with the democrats and believe in a lot of their morals and such.

I have friend that is a hardcore republican, and we get into debates at any moment just for the hell of it, we can never argee, and one time it nearly resulted in a fist fight because he called me stupid. But through all this we're still friends....

I really don't like that guy ethier..

opposite for me... I have a bi-sexual male friend and a... I suppose bi-curious friend.
I don't freak out over it, but still...
I suppose it's different... seems a few of my friends are bi-sexual...
I'm glad my sexuality is of the A variety. Edit: (Asexuality. Means I have 0% Interest.)

OP: another of my friendships...
New guy joined my class, and he had problems from being picked on, and one of my best friends had a problem with him... might of been conflicting haircuts... cut a long story short, at some point I kinda took him under my wing and became friends with him.
and when he first arrived he annoyed the hell out of me and my friends. so I'm not sure how that happened.

I have a friend I met in a summer camp WAY back in jr. High. Later, she ended up going to my school a year later. I had forgotten her name, and thought it rude to mention that. So instead, I managed to go 3 years without knowing her name and get away with it (she wasn't a very close friend anyways)
Then one day she just asked me: "Do you even know my name?"
I had to make up some stupid excuse about amnesia...

Sophia, crazy hot goth girl. she used to phone me up at 3am just to tell me she wanted to drink my Blood. when i fell asleep on her setee, she used to draw on my forehead while i was asleep. i went to work with "slave" written on my head. she went to live in brighton about 6 months later. it was wierd because we were friends and nothing more, but damn, there was some strange times.

Well, one of my best friends and I hated each other in pre-school. We tore into each other, throwing rocks, punches, tricycles, you name it at each other. Then in kindergarten we became really good friends, and still are. Most have looked odd to our parents.

There was a girl im my old high school that from practically day one called me Posh (i dont really have that much of an accent, i go even more well spoken when im drunk). I called her some other name back, Nothing really offensive. They ended up becoming pet names for each other. I haven't seen her since high school, But i know about two weeks before i finished high it hit me that we weren't enemies, And confused the shit out of me.

Also, I used to hate a different girl in High school (she was part of that "bitchy" group you have in every school). About 4 months after the end of school i applied for a job at a new build pub, And found out i was working with her. She didnt like me and thought i was wierd, I didnt like her & thought she was a *****, Even tho we'd had no proper dealings with each other. After working together for over a year we became solid friends. Turns out reputations (although correct in some places (for both of us)) Weren't really fair. I stopped working there 3 years ago, But we're still in touch.

Once the person who I consider me best friend was my worst enemy. Eventually we got to talking again and ended up being closer friends because of our little "war." Also my ex was nothing like me, but we got along perfectly.

I'm chums with a really staunch Christian schizophrenic. (Yes, the ones with voices in their heads.)
