Street Fighter IV being terrible

It's a simple question with simple background.

GameStop has Street Fighter IV for $20. OK, sounds nice. Go out, get it, I'm all excited...

...does anyone else think that this was one of the most pathetically broken fighting games ever? Just want to make sure I'm not the only one.

I have a good history in the fighting game genre. There's no lack of knowing how to make a fighter do what he needs to do, so I'm not doing it wrong. I've played Virtua Fighter 4 and I know that I AM doing that wrong, but it's not really my thing anyway. This game can't even seem to figure out what a fireball is. I even did a test with Crimson Viper to see if the developers had a brain cell in their head, and she will actually pull off her quarter back move occassionally when I'm actually doing quarter-circle forward. At a standstill. In training.

Seriously, I cannot be the only one.

well i find the game pretty hard, but i wouldn't blame the game for that! that's just because i'm not good enough at it! i still think as a game it's brilliant! and i definately wouldn't say it's pathetically broken. because in all honesty it seems to be very well made.

I was only ever average at Street Fighter, and the only character I liked was Ryu...just like everyone else and their mother.

And their dog, too.

So I couldn't tell you if SF4 was any good...but I doubt it.

I DO know that Soul Calibur 4 blew a mighty one.

I'm not sure what impression you're trying to make. You said you have a good history in the fighting game genre, but then you only mention Virtua Fighter 4 and say you don't know how to play that either.

I've heard good things about the game, chances are you're just bad at it. I've been terrible at all the past versions.

I can't play skate either. Being left handed kills my accuracy =7(

If you're using the 360 D-pad then that may very well be the cause of your problem. Personally, I love the game. Its not perfect but its the most fun I've had with a fighter since Street fighter 2. Its somehow managed to revive my love for what I thought was a fading franchise.

for the last time, 360 control pads were designed with FPS' in mind, the DualShock was designed for fighting games.

i have none of the problems you describe.
It just takes a while to get good at SF4.
Keep practicing is all i can give for advise :)
(and look around on the internet for some guides,tips,... shoryuken.com for instance)

The controls are a little stiffer than BlazeBlue and the roster is not as good but other than that it is fine.

Capcom have said that Zangeif is overpowered.

However, I think the game is fairly balanced. Although, online mode is generally Ken and Akuma players.

PS3, and probably the first time I've ever sat there and wondered if I seriously had a bum copy of a game even though you kind of can't, but I'm seriously considering it.
And I just list Virtua Fighter 4 because, well, it's purposely technical and definitely demands a certain way of playing. I just don't like that style all that much. That would be the impression. Doing the High Angle Geyser while in midair so it goes off the second I hit the ground is something I can routinely do, but something basic in this game just seems to be hair-pull frustrating. Like I said, the game is literally interpreting things wrong, so ya know...maybe I've got some fluke copy or something...
Oh yeah, the throwing ticked me off, too. I've got my foot literally inside M. Bison's rectal cavity and he shrugs it off by throwing me every time.
It's one thing to know what's cheap in a game and taking advantage, but the more I see of the game the more it seems like they don't want you to fight so much as find the cheapest way to win. That's the impression I'm getting.

Well, I'm inclined to disagree, but in an amiable way. I've played a lot of the Street Fighter games, so I know my way around them, and I didn't find Street Fighter IV to be broken. At any rate, I haven't found any of the problems you've described.

Perhaps you do have a flukey copy, or maybe an unresponsive controller, but I wouldn't be able to say that for sure.

360 controller?

The game's a lot better with a fight pad, but it's still not perfect. The online is awful, so full of rage quitters/turbo controller whores it's not true.

I don't like it as much as the originals or as much as Tekken/Soul Caliber on the 3-D front, which is a bit of a shame but it's still pretty good.

He certainly is in the hands of the AI. Fancy a perfectly timed spinning piledriver the second you come in range? It'll do that every time. (But I'm used to the DoA/Tekken/Soul Calibur priority system, where strikes beat throws)

Anyway, I have no problem with the controls (I use an arcade stick), I'm just shit at 2D fighting games.

I never had that issue... It controls pretty well for me.

However, 360 controllers are terrible for fighting games... Seriously...

Street Fighter IV was brilliant until the final boss. You talk about Virtua Fighter, what the heck is Doral doing in that game?

Not neccesarily. They might not be as accurate or responsive as the average stick, but I win most of my games online with a normal controller. It does take some getting used to.

I actually enjoyed Street Fighter IV. I played it with my friends all the time. My closest friend and me had a fucking rivalry when he used Ryu and I used Akuma.

It takes practice to get good at it. One thing I hate about fighters is when people fucking button mash, praying to land a combo.

Your failing not the game. I despised it when first playing (having played Tekken since I was young) but ive grown to love it you just have to get used to the stick movements.

Edit: <3 what CK said below.
