I'm sorry to say, I'm French but I live in Londno, and while I've never been an outspoken "France is great" patriotist I do gravitate towards the French characters in fighting games, so gay french man Leon in VF and Le queer Remy in Street Fighter 3.
Hey, don't diss Remy. Remy's awesome. He's like Charlie as a French Goth.

Besides, I'd add Raphael and Amy Sorel to my own list.

And someone else, too.
I'm not dissing Remy at all, he's my charge man for being in Le Charge of Le Attacking stoopid Inglish! AH AH you see i'm French, this is why I talk wis dees ridiculus accent!.

I however dislike Raphael, because he's cheap, as a French man I must say that an expert at fencing would never be cheap.

Not sure about the balance, mostly because I didn't like the game that much. I've kinda fallen off the Street Fighter formula ('cept Third Strike, that game is still fun).

Still, calling SFIV the most broken fighting game of all? I have three words for you: Cable, Storm, Sentinel.
Good god, don't remind me of that. Cable is almost as cheap as Iceman. The thing that was worse about Iceman's cheapness? He only had two moves. You were either being cheap, or you were losing.
And Magneto. Urgh...

And the worst part? I can't even justify trying to learn those characters so I can do better. I'm a Jack-of-all-Trades at heart, and there's something about the concept of a game with five or six godly characters in a roster of fifty-six that I just find incredibly offensive.

...wait a second.

If you really do have a good history with fighting games, you might have heard of Melty Blood and almost every game since it's recent revision, or Guilty Gear (the original). Now THOSE are broken games.
Guilty Gear original, I don't dispute, but Melty Blood has been getting steadily less broken since Re-Act...

Oh no doubt, Melty Blood has definitely been getting steadily less broken since Re-Act, maybe I should change my tune a bit concerning that one.

And Remy? I'm not a fan, but Lion Rafale in VF is one of my best characters next to Vanessa, and Raphael has been destroyed post SCII. Seriously, what the hell did they do to him??

EDIT: Man I want that figure, where did you get it?

Comment est-ce qu'il est...gah. I don't know the word. Never seen my second-favorite sabreur described as cheap, before. Just because he's decently strong and has good range?

Yea the controller was not intended for fighting games, additionally street fighter is much different than 3D fighters. Where guard breaks and counters are common in stuff like SC4 or DoA, SFIV is mostly based around frame cancelling and the such.

It is just is a whole different beast in comparison to other fighters.

And yes I will say I am a fanboy.

Lion...the mantis guy? I liked him in 5 (the only one I've played, actually), along with Aoi. And I'm not sure what happened to Raphael, but whatever it was, it firmly cemented in my speech patterns that when I just refer to "Soul Calibur," I'm always referring to SC2. If Amy had been in that game, it would probably be my favorite fighting game ever (getting a very slight edge over a couple of other candidates).

I got it from a UFO Catcher in Japan, oddly enough (got most of my figurines that way, actually). Took some effort, too, since it was a weirdly designed machine. I'd swear it was rigged, but I actually saw a rigged claw machine over there...not to mention I managed through blind luck to get Sion and Akiha out of it, too (but not Kohaku or Fate/Zero Saber, sadly).

I hate street fighter for another reason, my brother grew up playing Street Fighter and has pretty much played every street fighter there ever was so now my ears bleed with ever Hadoken, , Tiger upper cut, tatsmakisempukiaku I hear. SF4 also gets some more hate because it went 3D and I think most games that go 3D from 2D are worse off for it. Look at King of Fighters 12, are you going to say that game looks bad, or that capcom couldn't do the same level of quality if not more? Game companies have this strange idea that 2D gaming is dead.
I think you may have the wrong impression. Yes, the idea now is that 2D is dead, but SFIV isn't really 3D. They just changed the art style so everyone's not a sprite and the Ultra attacks get fancy camera angles. It's still a 2D fighter otherwise. Just changing the way the game looks does far from making it worse to play unless someone out there can't stand looking at 3D modeled characters at all (but then they wouldn't be playing games now)
I played Street Fighter 4, my brother owns it, yeah it's 3D in a 2D world so to speak but why bother making it 3D if it's still 2D when the series has been best known for its 2D games and worse off for it's 3D games. This is my opinion though, I think if a 2D game is 2D it's usually better off to stay 2D vs go 3D trying to revamp, what doesn't need to be revamped.

Remy is good is you know how to be patient because he's a charge character, he plays alot like Orchid from Killer Instinct when getting used to. But he's not a top tier character because of the charge needed for moves, although saying that Guile in SF2 was a top tier character (in fact he was the strongest) because his standard hits were so overpowered to compensate for his weakness in making specials.

If you wanna jump into SF, go for the characters with rotate special moves since your more likely to string together moves with them.

You and me both man. Can't stand button mashers. Also, my best friend and I have a Cammy vs. Zangief rivalry.

To the OP I find SFIV to be fairly balanced. I use the control stick for my moves and I pretty much always land what I want to do. You might just need more practice or to buy an arcade stick or not-broken controller.

I still think Blazblue is more balanced and the superior fighter but I completely disagree with SFIV being terrible. It manages to be balanced and it revived the interest in the fighting game genre because it was so good.

Well actually despite my dislike for chargers and my best character being Ken, my friend says I'm great with them, some of the best he's seen (especially Vega and Bison, Balrog too but not as much) so it irritates him when I say I don't like them. Remy is just someone I haven't used much, so I can't particularly say I'm a fan, like Urien and Q.

Capcom have said that Zangeif is overpowered.

However, I think the game is fairly balanced. Although, online mode is generally Ken and Akuma players.
Good, I was wondering why I could kick everyones ash with Zangief while my old favorites were always getting mopped up.

Maybe TC doesn't remember SF2 but that was a fun game with some really cheap shots. You may be skilled but the game wont let you use your skills. That's the way they made it.

oh so your good with chargers but you don't like Remy?, with what little knowledge I shall make what Ieffel* is a valid assumption, YOU SIR ARE RACIST AGAINST THE FRENCH!, and being French I feel compelled to do what any French person would do in the face of such aggression

Thats right, I hold up a white flag and say I quit please don't hurt me.

Yep, Leon "the mantis guy" Rafale is French, in fact Rafale is a French word that doesn't have an English word that is its equal or direct translation. It essentially means "multiplication of velocity and acceleration", so if something is rafale, it means its many times faster then what has come before it.

But yeah he's French!, he's gay French man! :D

I started playing VF at number 2, and Leon was my man then, he was so quick you could strike and dodge constantly even against the computer at the hardest setting, but he is weak, in later Virtua Fighter iterations they have slowed him down alot... although I don't mind, he has a sense of weight when fighting that I like alot.

Christophe? we don't consider him one of us.

Jean Reno on the other hand, hell yes, did you know he received the highest badge of honour available to the French military, for his services to making France look not completely useless.

I'm being serious, he got the French Victoria Cross for being an actor just because he's an excellent ambassador for us Frenchies to the rest of the world.

the man is awesome, he made Godzilla fun to watch!, he deserves another medal for that!

I think the graphics were terrible.

I don't get the notion of purposely decreasing game graphics on the argument that they want it to resemble the older versions.

The animations in Street Fighter 4 were terrible and rigid. One could of course argue that it would be more balanced that way.

I resent the game on a graphical level.

The 360 pad is a massive piece of plastic fail when it comes to fighting games. Whenever I try to use it for fighting games, I always have the same problems you do. Get an arcade pad or get the PC port of SF4.

Oh yeah, the throwing ticked me off, too. I've got my foot literally inside M. Bison's rectal cavity and he shrugs it off by throwing me every time.
It's one thing to know what's cheap in a game and taking advantage, but the more I see of the game the more it seems like they don't want you to fight so much as find the cheapest way to win. That's the impression I'm getting.
This sort of thing is in for the tourney crowd where one small mistake means pretty much death.
OT I have had a few problems but blame it on my general ham-handedness and 360 controller. It's still not as bad as marvel vs capcom2 tho.

Haha, I rotate between the stick and the directional pad depending on what character I use. For Vega, I use the stick. For Akuma, I use the directional pad. It just depends on which special is easier on which control.

What pisses me off about fighters is that I could train for fucking years and still get knocked out by a fucking button masher. When I was playing co-op with my friends, other people wanted to play. The second I looked at their hands when they were button mashing, I ended the match and banned them from my 360
