What really annoys me is that on Youtube people praise this guy for his research based off the show. Why doesn't he look into some other shows as well or Anime for that matter? So many things, including realistic movies, do things that aren't accurate to science but yet makes it stand out. If we have limitations on all our animations, then we'd get really board pretty fast or lack interest into it anymore.

I could be just overthinking this, but really you need to prove to people that Rainbow Dash has done her Sonic Rainboom wrong? Again, it annoys me plus the things he says like, "Alright, so a show for little girls called My Little Pony-" right at the start he claims that little girls see it but really Faust as stated that the show is for kids and adults (mainly families) so yeah, he pretty much gets a B- for his presentation spite his bravery to display this in front of his class.
Do you really think he did this because he thought Friendship is Magic needed to be brought down a notch because of its inaccurate physics? Of course not! It was an assignment. I assume the brief went like this "Create a five to ten minute presentation on physical impossibilities in one of your favourite shows/movies."
I assume that this was to- No, let me remove the assumptions and ask a teacher why they did this

The aim of this exercise would be to make the subject relevant. A major issue with education nowadays is that students don't pay attention to subjects because they don't feel they have any bearing on their lives, which is why practical subjects are so often more popular. Maths suffers a lot from this because "It's just numbers" and a lot of the syllabus is just numbers that you can't or won't use in later life unless you do A-level or degree level maths.
Making subjects relevant is one of the most important things you can do in your classroom.
Now back on point, the task wasn't done for funsies, it was done for a school project, and he chose Friendship is Magic because he enjoyed it and wanted to have fun with the task, while simultaneously exposing his physics class to the show.

Stop! I'll do anything, pony! I- I mean Cap'n Evey.

If only I could find my P for Pinketta picture right now. This calls for a meme-up![/quote]

Anything?
*Looks towards Susan Arendt's pony badge*

Hrpmh. Double post. My bad.
Did you... did you just quote me and then deleted the post?

I'm confused as the forum software is a bit crazy today too and I'm not sure what's up now.

Normally I'd be annoyed by someone trying to apply real life science to a work of fiction such as this, but considering he did it as part of a school assignment and aimed for having fun with it (rather than taking a more serious route with that assignment), I have to give him a kudos for putting that thing together and having the guts to get up in front of his class and present it.

Yeah, I did, then got distracted, then reposted it in the above post to save space, but removed the post reference to avoid double-notifying you.

To fit with the current topic:

Why do you need to apply physics to something like cartoons anyway? That just makes things needlessly confusing, when you apply real world physics to cartoons, it can cause major amounts of overthinking and confusion.

Now, I'm pretty stubborn in my refusal to actually watch the show, but isn't applying real world physics to a cartoon show about magical talking ponies kind of ludicrous?
Then again, it is a high school physics class, so maybe that statement was just redundant.

Also, the Pegasus pony can fly. I think it's fair to assume she's much lighter than the regular pony.

I commend this guy. It combines two of my greatest interests; ponies and physics. Also, his reasons for why the show was good were....awesome :D

I think you have just stumbled upon the true nature of dark matter.
Indeed. However, marketing slashed the title "My Little Pony: Friendship is Dark Matter"

I think it has a nice ring to it however.

I see. Though it wasn't there the last time I looked, I swear!

But... Susan is our Nerd Queen. How could I steal a badge from the Queen? That's like stealing... well, from the Queen!

If I had to do such an assignment, without hesitation I'd pick Futurama. It is rife with obvious examples of getting things wrong.

Of course, this obviously isn't meant to be super serious - a serious discussion about the science in a kids' show about magical talking ponies is almost too tragic to imagine -
Aw... I had bender all lined up. Oh well.

OT: I'm pretty sure that Pony Magic trumps physics, regardless of how real we want ot make it. I mean, the fact the ponies talk alone, can read, use magic, and live in a world full of dragons, the physics are probably the last things that need explained.

EDIT: he should really learn to not read off the powerpoint. The audience isnt on the screen, they're in front of you, lets have some eye contact.

but Friendship has no power in the field of science. in fact "the power of Friendship" does not exist. there is only the simple powerless Friendship.
