Videogames are awesome, but I think we can all agree that they have a lot of stupid things in them.

For example, I was thinking about Halo:CE earlier today. I thought about the invisible elites with energy swords. Now being invisible would certainly make you deadly, and being invisible with a sword would just make it even easier to kill people. However it doesn't work so well the swords are glowing blue.

It makes no sense. You go through the trouble to create invisible armor and you decide to carry around a glowing blue sword that gives away your position to anyone with a functioning eye. It defeats the point of being invisible. It's just plain stupid.

So what are some other things in videogames that you found to be stupid?

Also, the Master Chief can flip a 66 ton tank 20 feet into the air but can't hold an SMG still to save his life.

And why does the shotgun have less range than a sword on halo? :S

If you make your horse gallop in Assassin's Creed, everyone thinks your evil and will try to kill you, but if you hold down a button that makes you extremely slow, everyone fucks off.

What bullshit is that?!

That in many games, especially RPG games, your all-powerful character cant even jump over a 0.5 meter fence or bush.

Fallout's invisble walls suck also.

After wiping out an enemy armada with explosives and rockets, coming across a flimsy wooden door and told that you need to find the key.

Better yet, dungeon crawlers where you kill some annoying insect and it drops a pole-arm.

I hate Bethesda's use of literal invisible walls. And in regards to Fallout 3, being able to just open inventory at any time and stab yourself full of stims. Kinda takes the challenge out of battle.

They could of had a better way to stop you from going off the map. A little box that says "You can't go that way. Turn back." while I nudge up against a wall of air is really annoying and it breaks immersion.

Yeh, they could have at least come up with something that fits in with the feel of the game world. Something along those lines of if you stray too far out into the wider world and you get ambushed by a huge pack of deathclaws or even simpler, just blast you with a years worth of radiation in the space of a second. There you go, game over. :)

I'm surprised no one mentioned A.I's.
For me,this is one of the thing I think of when it comes to stupid things in vido games.
I do understand that they are programed to not do all the work for you,and some are there to make you look good, but they can do too good of a job at it.

That certain classes can't dual-wield in World of Warcraft.

How the auto-aim in GTA IV will aim for civilians running away from the scene 100 meters away when there's a cop with a shotgun 10 meters in front of me.

That a freaking wolf can have a giant freaking axe inside it in MMORPGS.

Quests that don't make sense.

"Hi, my name is Lazy Bastard #4. I need some pipes to finish making my completely worthless invention. Can you find some pipes for me? I think I saw some lying on the counter 2 feet to my left. Can you bring them to me? I will pay you money!"

With a little initiative, quest givers could save so much money.

The story of DMC 4. So... childish.

Also, the fact that usually when videogames try to be really epic, they fail miserably.

Note: I did a search of this topic and similar ones as I had a feeling this thread had been made before. So either this thread hasn't been made or it's buried several pages back.
This once literally kept me from sleep. Which particular developer thought this was a good idea? The few times when the Osoona Elites didn't have swords, they were a ***** to find and kill, and it was actually a really unique and interesting phase of combat. They had nothing by way of constitution but with the relatively muddy graphics, it was impossible to track them reliably just be looking around. But when they had swords, one just roles their eyes and presses the trigger like they would with a lone grunt charging with a Needler.
If they could activate and deactivate their swords then they would be deadly. They could sneak up on you with the sword deactivated, then activate it and kill you beforte you can respond.

Instead they charge straight towards you, usually shouting a series of loud grunts and worts. Just in case you somehow didn't notice them.
