I get judged as a mac geek because I bought an iPod touch recently.

I don't own any other mac products, I don't really care about them or their products, I have no loyalty to them, I bought it simply as a gaming device. I enjoy a lot of the casual games on it, and that's it. I don't even have any music on it.

I'd also like to point to the Gamer episode of Extra Credits and point out that I do get slightly annoyed when people call me a Gamer. I'm not a gamer. I'm just a normal dude who plays the occasional video game. I also read, watch TV, enjoy movies, box, cook, any number of things.
Ah, not a gamer?, but you sir are right now on a forum...almost exclusively dedicated to games, surely thats clarification of your interest in games?

Well I think the main one for me is being judged for not drinking excessive amounts of alcohol. You tell someone you don't smoke and you get no response but as soon as you say "I don't like to drink" you get all sorts of funny looks and comments.

Another one I used to get judged on a lot was being a female playing games. At secondary school, the particular judgement was "you're older than 8 and you still play Pokemon? OMG loser!" But mainly just being a female playing games. As though that is completely forbidden. Thankfully, now I've started university the judgement on the playing games has subsided now I have found like-minded people to hang about with. Although the drink thing was pretty bad when I first came here. It's one way to get your flatmates to completely ignore you, anyway. Which, after getting to know them, is a good thing.

----Sort of off topic, but I want to share this----

Hey man,

I used to want to be an RAF Engineering Officer like you, my grandad used to be one. I also used to be in the ATC (Air Training Corps) or air cadets too.

People used to think it was sad, but I'm 23 now and I can't tell you how jealous my real mates are that I've actually flown an aircraft, doing stall turns and loops. Fired many rifles on the ranges that they never can. Been on many RAF bases taking rides in Chinooks. Got first dibs on work experience slots at RAF bases - I remember helping change a tire on a VC-10 - it was awesome. I absolutely loved it. Got to Corporal too :D.

I decided not to join the RAF in the end purely for personal reasons. Even though I've got a Masters degree and studying for a PhD, there's a part of me that still would like to be in the RAF.

All I can say is fuck the people who think its 'sad', they don't have a clue. You'll be so much better for it. I know you weren't coming here for sympathy, I just wanted to share my years experiences 'cause you remind me of myself.

All the best mate.
Thanks man. I thought to myself 'They obviously don't know what you need to do'. They take the mick calling me sad but I know, I'm going to go further than them and being an officer requires a lot of intelligence, leadership and courage. I'm really looking forward to ACTUALLY becoming a cadet and getting my greens. Thanks for your words of wisdom. GREATLY appreciated.

I was walking home yesterday and I saw a trail of blood leading up the road. I pointed at it and said to my friend "Is that blood? I think that's blood!"
...So, ever find out where the blood came from? I think that'd of caught my attention more than any amount of bigotry.
Given my proximity at the time to the town centre (which is dotted with pubs and such places) I had assumed it had been the unpleasant yet not entirely surprising aftermath of a barfight the previous night. If I had to get my CSI on (oh yes) I'd say that the victim probably sustained a knock to the nose and fled up the hill and home, trailing blood along the way.

But yeah, the blood did startle me a little. However, given the sorts of people I'm accustomed to seeing around the place in which I live (to quote the Arctic Monkeys, "they'd prob'ly like to throw a punch at me") I kinda worked out it would just have been a drunken scrap.

I've been judged for:
- Only reading books in English. What can I say, I can't stand my mothertongue.
- Having glasses.
- Playing videogames.
- Watching anime/cartoons.

And basically everything geeky/nerdy.

people often have stupid ideas of me because i wear tactical shemaghs* and balaclavas 7 months out of the year. i have had professors tell me to remove them even though i wear them open enough to show my face/eyes in class, AND even though colleges DO NOT have dress codes.
they think i am a terrorist or some social reject, but i just want to keep dirt and wind out of my face/eyes. if it scares people away enough for extra legroom on the train, then so be it.
*note: i wear my shemagh the REAL way-- up, and over my head and face, not around my neck like a fucking hipster.
Wait...that sounds like you wear them in class too. Because that would be a rather stupid thing to do.

Other than that, yeah those things were made for a reason outside of being terrorist fashion. It'd be nice if people would realise that.
Well you hit the nail on the board there! or something.
People always think i am some sort of genius because i play vidoegames and i ear glasses.
you wouldnt believe how many times i have been "forced" to help another person with their computer problems over the years. and i dont know shit about hardware, or software for that matter. i haven been judged to hardly for watching anime though, because there is quite a few at my school who does it too. xD

Perhaps, but perhaps not. Maybe I just come here to take enjoyment in Escape to the Movies. However, if I were to tell you that, that would be a lie.

I enjoy playing the occasional game, like many people on this site I first came here because of Yahtzee, I have several video game shirts, my avatar is related to a video game, and I even created an incredibly successful video game comic. Clearly video games do play a small role in my life.

I just don't consider myself a gamer, and I get mildly annoyed when people try to attach that label to me. I don't consider it an insult, I'm not bashing anyone who wears the Gamer title with pride. It's just not for me is all.

@ Dogstile: thank you for your input.
it is a city-run school in NYC, the most diverse city ever. there is no official policy about clothing, because the city would get sued every other day, had they imposed such a law. I have seen kids wear shirts that are sexist, encourage violence and are otherwise offensive. kids wear their 59-50 hats in class down over their eyes and have bandanas hanging from their pockets.
i show my face and i dress normally, barring said shemagh/balaclava, which is already worn open to show face/eyes.
this isn't France, where the government can tell me not to wear something because it makes the general population "squeamish". don't know what i mean? i implore you to look it up.

@Cowabungaa:
thank you for your blatant insult. i thought i was on a thread where i could bring up a problem and have a discussion. instead, you call what i do stupid. your post has been reported accordingly.

There was some cartoon I watched when I was little about Nellie the Elephant. I forgot about that :)

Ah, makes sense. Just seemed odd that a bloodshed might warrant less concern than... what's the term for someone who randomly deems others "lower class" than them? Anyway it makes me think of someone saying "I as I was driving by Godzilla on his morning rampage, some prick cut me off!"

Then again, the thread is about silly judgements you've recieved, so perhaps the blood wasn't the focal point.

Yes, you read that correct.

I get judged For READING BOOK

Albeit most highschoolers are stupid twats.
I have that too, I like (some) books, Mostly fantasy stuff like Harry Potter and Eragon.
But I am usually called off for my poor behaviour, and lack of cooperating in situations I find lacking.
Also OP, THAT SONG IS EVIL! KILL IT WITH FIREEEEEEEE.

Well one of my friends finds it kinda gross that I sniff snuff but don't drink. So it's bad that I get a rush from destroying my nose but it's okay for him to fuck his liver over.

I have been judged because of my unusual loving of all things duck-like. Sure, not many people have judged me because of this, but it has happened.

What the hell kinda messed up music scene are YOU a part of? I've been playing punk shows in various parts of the country for about ten years now (a scene which in general seems to be heavily tattooed), two of my bandmates don't have any tattoos or piercings and I don't think they've ever gotten shit for it or anything of the sort.

I think the idea might be (and I could be wrong here) that he doesn't define himself as a gamer. Just like I go to see movies yet I've never defined nor identified myself as a "movie watcher". If that's the case than I totally get it and agree.

Things people judge me on:
-For being nice (..seriously)
-Playing videogames
-Achieving Badges on The Escapist
-Being a Christian
-Watching My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
-Not liking certain foods

The list goes on. Even if they aren't really brought up a lot, people always find some flaw/talent I have and use it against me. It's human nature to put down others because for a number of reasons. It can be insecurity, pride, not accepting others or as simple as misunderstanding. The biggest problem is people don't like bring wrong, so they won't stand down when judging and will go as far as making that person mentally or physically hurt for personal uncalled for reasons. I for now, do not accept that concept.
Completely off topic, but you're making me really crave a caramel frappe so bad. Stop it :p. I love those things.
