Stupid things said about video games.

At work or at school when I openly talk about my love for gaming, I always talk about the stories and the universes that they have, some people just go, or yeah, in between shooting people or blowing them up? It just drives me crazy when people dismiss video games as a juvenile form of entertainment where all you do is shoot people. Especially considering the fact that my most played games recently have been LA Noire and Portal 2.

I suppose the best example I can come up with is that regardless what game or of what platform its being played on my mother always calls any video game "nintendo".

Yep I know this one well. My mum calls my 3DS a GameBoy. When I call her out on it she goes "The 3-whosey-whatsit, yeah that one"

When I play a shooter, I sometimes hear "Why are you shooting that guy?", usually in a defensive tone (Edit: Forgot to mention the tone, the most important part).

I would like to answer by saying I would like to progress in the game, and the NPC is impeding on my progress.
Or in an online game there is an incentive to oust an opponent for a set amount of points per kill, and at the end of the match the highest accumulated score wins.

Instead what comes out of my mouth is "He deserves it!" and proceed to go about my way.

My mother does the same and I think it's silly.

I tried to let my Step mom play GTA3. She was trying to follow all the lights and behave as a real driver. I told her that its meant for hitting people and stealing cars and her response was "but I don't want to get in trouble, I'm following with the common speed."

My dad tries to convince me that somehow playing video games will make my hands fall off, I am very predisposed for tendonitis but it only flares up every once and a while and it doesn't really coincide with gaming.

No idea if this counts, but I was in a supermarket the other day with my mother: I was looking around the games section, and she wanders over, looks over at a copy of Ghost Recon on the shelf, and says to me "Ghost Raccoon? What's that?" I laughed my ass off.

(I make her sound like an old granny. She's really not, bless her. XD)

I then proceeded to spend a good half an hour lecturing them about how wrong they were. They finally realised this and ended up just replying with. "I don't care, you know to much about video games you nerd"

This was on TTT-gmod. Where you cant just shoot anyone you like, you gotta work out who to kill: "Why don't you just shoot everyone" "Because then I might kill someone on my team, as I don't know who is who" "That's stupid, if it was any good then you would be able to shoot anyone" "You can, you just don't want to" "So why don't you kill everyone? Man that game is stupid."
A game is stupid because you don't just shoot everyone =.=
