"aren't you getting tired from playing games all day?"
-my nice while I was playing a game on my laptop
1. niece
2. that's a valid question because screens especially can overwork your eyes and brain and make you feel tired :/
3. it's not stupid to try to learn, and it's not a stupid thing to ask anybody, maybe she just wanted some attention?

I think the most annoying thing said to me during my childhood was "can't you just play that other one again?" because my parents would literally believe that any game should somehow transcend the normal rules of repetition and boredom in a way that didn't make sense when I tried to explain the point using tv shows or books as examples :/.

My girlfriend thinks the fact that I'm 22 and play games is silly...yet she plays on the Wii loads because apparently girls can play on the Wii at any age without being childish.

My mum refers to any console as a Playstation.

'What's wrong with your other console?'

'Are you winning?'

I could go on.

When I have kids I'll be gaming with them and pwning the hell out of them!

Back when I played WoW, my dad would often ask what is was about.
I tried to explain it to him.
It really puzzled him why my character ran around without stopping for a breather and why I killed creatures.

This happened once:

"Why does he have teeth poking out of his chin?"

"Cause, he's a troll. Trolls have tusks in this game"

"Why is he running?"

"There is this quest *opens map* I have to run all the way down there"

"...It's not YOU running, you know..."

"Uuh, yes, I know that it's not me..."

My sister was really worried that I would get addicted, just because I was playing for 20 minutes or so on christmas eve.

My mom often calls my ds a "computer game"

Other than that, they don't care much about video-games. They just roll with it since it's my thing, I guess.

My stepmom would see my playing a gameboy, sigh heavily, and ask "When are they going to make a game-Girl?"

My mom once got really offended when she saw me playing Haunting Ground. "Why is she just running around and screaming? This game is anti-feminist!" Meanwhile, Fiona (the protagonist) is being chased by Daniella, a psychotic maid wielding a massive shard of glass who wants to stab her to death. I was just... boggled. I basically said that if it were me I'd be terrified too.

When I was younger my mom would pronounce Pokemon as "Poke-men" (as in, 'I poked it with a stick' poke). It was hilarious.

My dad tends to get really condescending about games in general- the usual "you should go outside" nonsense. Which is odd, considering he runs an internet radio station and spends his days in a dark, cramped studio and won't shut up about technology being the future. You'd think he'd be more understanding.

Then there's the usual nonsense my friends say. "Games are pointless and a waste of time," that kind of thing. Once, in high school, a friend of mine claimed no game would ever tell a story better than a book, and that games are completely useless. I let her borrow my DS to play Phoenix Wright (she looooves murder mysteries, law, and debate) for a few periods. She was hooked immediately and admitted she was completely wrong, haha.

My mother watching me play Burnout Paradise is one of the most hilarious experiences of my life. From the way she was shrieking to the way she was moving around on the sofa like she was trying to avoid the oncoming traffic, you'd think she thought she way actually in the car... when watching it from a third person perspective.

All video games are like Call of Duty or Halo -- eg. extremely violent, loads of guns and gore. Centered around killing people.

Seriously, when I'm playing Animal Crossing on my DS I'm not exactly murdering people with Uzi's....
you arn't?
Damn! That's where I've been going wrong with that game!

OT: "oh you're playing with that gamebox again?" Mum I love you, stop trying to understand my hobby!

When Bayonetta was coming out and I was telling my friends how cool it looked, they said it was shit. I asked why and they said just cause... I don't even..

Also sometimes my sister would watch me play WoW and one day I wanted to try Rift. So she watched me play this too, then asked if this was WoW. This one might not be so bad I just thought the graphics were different enough to think it was a different game.

My Dad seems to believe games are tools made to brainwash me into becoming a soldier... while I'm playing Portal. Also, I have a friend whos parents are both psychiatrists, and unfortunatley for him the kind that seem to think games are all dangerous and immoral, and they don't let him play anything that is 15+, besides the fact he is turning 16 (he told me the other day that his dad had given him a lecture on how immoral video games are).

Mother: "Playing that Nintendo (Xbox360) is making you lazy."

Me: "Mum, you have graced this world with 5 sons, fo which I am the only one who runs every day and goes to the gym on a regular basis."

Mother: "Still, cant you get a nice hobby like watching the football with your brothers?"

Me: *facepalm*

Because gaming isn't a nice hobby, unlike watching people kicking around a ball now is it?

1. How can anyone play a game for X minutes? (Where X<60)

2. Why do you play that game, if it just makes you scream and swear at the screen?

3. So instead of going out finishing, you decided to stay in and play a game where you spent your time playing a finishing mini-game.

4. Any time a person states all games are just about killing people, while simultaneously claiming their vast gaming knowledge from having played Pong, a game that to my recollection does not involve killing any one.

5. Same as 4, but replace "killing" with "sex."

6. Girls don't play video games.

7. You're cheating. Quit button mashing. Stop using that move. Etc.

8. I'm an expert on Final Fantasy games, and I think 9 and 12 are the two best games of the series.

9. I've never play games on that console, but inherently know that all of its games suck.

10. I never collect items in dungeons, because it's a waste of time.

I suppose the best example I can come up with is that regardless what game or of what platform its being played on my mother always calls any video game "nintendo".

Really, I'm just impressed if my parents manage to pronounce "nintendo" right.
did you just insult final fantasy 9 in there

I was playing a video game once and my dad walked in. He stared at it for a bit and asked "Did you make this?" *facepalm*

Completely offtopic, but your avatar is the best thing ever. Which is all I have to say in this thread, since I thankfully have little experience with stupid things said about games.

I made my mum play Heavy Rain and she FREAKED when they showed Ethan's ass in the shower. "OMG, they showed his ass! His ASS!" I kind of just had to roll my eyes and say, "Like this is any different from what they show in the movies and TV series that you watch? Why is this kind of scene so damn shocking in a video game?"

Then when I went to get Dragon Age, she was with me and I had to show ID. She was blown away that I needed to be 18 to buy a game. "So...it's like an R-rated movie?" (FACEPALM)

(Once again, my mum) "What is the point of it all?" Like entertainment isn't enough of a 'point' to do something?

I've also been told that I'm not allowed to play games....because "only UGLY girls can play video games." (I wish I was kidding)

I tried to let my Step mom play GTA3. She was trying to follow all the lights and behave as a real driver. I told her that its meant for hitting people and stealing cars and her response was "but I don't want to get in trouble, I'm following with the common speed."
That's actually kind of adorable. XD
