"I played the first five minutes, found it boring so I never tried it again." Well, that is certainly giving the game proper chance.

"The graphics suck." This has been covered enough already.

"It's too mainstream/popular." Right, because things go from good to bad as soon as a certain amount of people like them. On the other hand, it works both ways. Occasionally you will come across people who won't go near a game because it isn't mainstream/popular enough. Either way you slice it, I've always found a game's popularity level to be a silly indication of it's quality.

"The characters aren't manly/sexy enough." Oh dear...

"It's Japanese, therefore it will be too weird." Keeping an open mind I see.

"You can't show your gear to other people." I heard one bloke use this as a reason not to pick up Dragon Age: Origins. Some people are all about that precious e-peen I guess.

so, I once heard this:

me: yo, checked out the new Metal Gear coming out for the ps3?
him: yeah, it's gonna suck galactical godzilla balls
me: what? why?
him: well, first, the main character is OLD as shit, the game looks too slow to even be interesting, you have to HIDE from the enemies instead of shooting them asses off, you dont get to kill people with chainsaws, and you dont go straight up killing enemies since you start. Besides, it's on PS3
me: what the hell dude, you do know Metal Gear series is based on hiding from enemies, right? and that there's a whole genre based on hiding from enemies, right? besides, what's wrong with the PS3
him: it's a big black grill
me: would you kindly fuck off?

Morrowind: The movement speed is too slow.

...what? You get faster as you go along!

If you really want to go quickly, jump everywhere. That's what all the cool people do :D
Huzzah, I'm cool!

My brother hates Morrowind because 'Oblivion looks better and it has a better game world'.
The second point is raw bullshit.
Well...its the same game world, and two...Koguti and Ogrim...or goblins and deer?
Well, the way it said just sounded to me as if they mean its not the same existance. Its not like FF where there its completly different universes or whatever. But if not for that invisible wall, you could walk to Morrowind if you go east enough. (mainland morrowind)

Oblivion is set in Cyrodiil, which is basically just 16 square kilometres of grass, trees, deer and wolves. Morrowind is set in Morrowind (wowie), which is a MUCH more varied and interesting place. It's got marshes, ashlands, a huge-ass volcano, plains, the weird mushroom-plant-thingies that are everywhere in the Telvanni areas... basically, a hell of alot more stuff.

Yeah, they're pretty damn different xD

EDIT: Whoa, my next post is 3000! What should I do to celebrate?
The person with a Morrowind avatar probably know better... But wasn't Morrowind set in Vvardenfell?
It was. Vvardenfell is a district in the province of Morrowind xD
There's a mod called Tamriel Rebuilt that's making the rest of Morrowind, but it's entirely third-party, so it doesn't exactly adhere to the rules... it's still awesome.

Ah, that makes sense.
Now, on to download the mod and install Morrowind once again!

EDIT: Oh wait, you said it isn't finished yet. Nevertheless, now to install Morrowind once again! It's been too long since I've played it.

This is unfailure idea, IMO Tamriel Rebuilt outdoes Bethesda's work... o_O

I hate it when my bro does this. He shot down Left 4 Dead just because he didn't like the graphics. He only played it for 5 mins and didn't even give himself enough time to get used to the controls. On the flipside, he wants to try out Street Fighter 4 because "the graphics are pretty good!" I think it's because he plays Tekken 6 (one of the best looking games out there) too much and expects all other games to live up to its standard.

It's a good thing you have each other to know what games are boring and what games are gaaaaaay. Otherwise you may have to play the games you enjoy individually, good thing everyone has the same opinion about games or things could get complicated.
Erm, I don't think you understand my context. I've told him about how great the game is, and that he should check it out. And he didn't buy it because of the box and screenshots. So he goes against my advice and buys a game I told him would get boring, because it "looked cool".
Exactly. Games that you like are "great" and he was wrong for not agreeing based on screenshots. It's not like certain people know what kind of games they enjoy just by looking at the screenshots, people just like the same thing. That's why reviews are so perfect, no smart person would ever dislike HL2 or TF2. And fable 2 is universally boring, not one person on the face of the earth has ever enjoyed that game and he is a silly kid for thinking he might.
Okay, look. I understand what you're saying, not everyone has the same interests and opinions. But this is the same friend that bought Mass Effect and 'Splosion Man based on my recommendation and loved both; and he had recommended Fallout 3 to me, which I adore now. So we respect each other's opinions, but what he did just set a new low.

Also, please stop picking apart everybody's posts, and actually add something meaningful to the conversation.
I will as soon as you show me one meaningful post on this entire Forum, heck on this entire site.
Wow you both liked Mass effect and Splosion Man, that proves that he must secretly love Orange box and hate Fable 2, he just doesn't know it yet. This truly is a "new low"
Here's an idea, he was just agreeing with you before and he decided he want's to try the games he likes, not the ones you like. Wonder why he wouldn't say anything before? Well here you are posting about it online like it's "meaningful" because he chose a game you didn't like.
Okay, than add something to the discussion, are you fuckin' happy?
I have, several times. How are my posts any less important than any other post on this site?
It's all pointless crap. You can't take any of these idiotic games with you when you die. Your just distracting yourself until it happens.
I know that, and yeah, distracting myself is entertaining.
Also, you mad?
I was just having fun, seemed like you were taking it pretty seriously though.
Why, you sad?
*Tears*
YES!

Here are some of the...more idiotic statements I've heard people make:
*Shadow of the Colossus: The whole game is just a boss rush mode? Pass.
*Saint's Row 2: It's just another GTA clone.
*Skies of Arcadia: Oh, *another* JRPG with a teenage main character...
*inFamous: So it's like Prototype, but you can't jump-kick any Helicopters? Pass.

...All of this, from a former clan-mate whom I haven't seen playing any other games besides Modern Warfare 2 and Tekken 6 in months. I won't say he has no taste in games...but I can't say I like how easily he wrote off those four above...

Me and The Prophet on here (he also runs the TF2 Event group, partially. On Steam) are constantly fighting over what games are good and bad.

(About FPS) it sucks. It's too much/not enough like MW2. Especially if it came out before MW2

Rockband/Guitar hero is ruin music. It's not real insturments. Yea ? Well Call of Duty isn real war. Madden isn't really football (your not actually playing it. Not critizising gameplay). Why does music have such an inflated head ?

"Its not realistic enough". Don't get me wrong. I prefer most games grounded in reality (I enjoy my Gears Of War but I like something close to reality) but if you actualy want to play a "realistic" form of war. I hope you enjoy dealing with emotional duress. Dealing with the many disorders that come from many different events you encounter. Getting hurt after getting shot and possibly losing limbs, then dealing with it the rest of your life. Point is. War ain't fun. Don't act like it is.

The AI sucks. Sometimes it does. But every game that doesn't have superhuman AI will have the odd person slamming the AI. Do they not realize we have the technology to do what we do right now ? It's like slamming on time travel because you can only visit the medieval age. The game cannput up a fight against you ! I'm on my Ipad right now and I'm still crapping myself over the fact that I have a machine capable of accessing the Internet that is smaller than a backpack. I'm amazed by what we have. Yet people want their AI to be able to deduce what the players favorite food is by what gun they select in Halo.

Anywho, the stupidest reason I've heard from someone is that a game isn't good if its on the PC, he disappointed me into a week long coma. Its fine if you don't like the PC but how can you say the PC isn't an appropriate playform for games in general, gah.
Have the same scenario, once when I talked to some people from music class and talking to someone I have known since kindergarden I let it slip that Call of Duty 4 was one of my favourite games and he agreed that it sure was a solid game. Though when I continued to say that I play on the PC he started to vent that the Xbox version was glorious and the PC version was utter and complete shit. "Why?" I ask, which he response: Because I get owned while I play on the PC. PC sucks!

Asshole in kindergarden. Asshole in High School. Figures, I guess.

I myself used to do the same thing but in reverse i.e. reject every shooter that is on the console since you can't aim for shit. Though after a long summer of borrowed console I've been forced, unhappily of course, to change perspective and confess that you actually can aim shit with a controller.
