"Lord of War"

Maybe it's just me, but I sympathize with the main character quite a bit.

EDIT: Also you get outstanding little paragraphs like this:

Hot Fuzz is my favourite movie ever....you have probably already seen it though (its not really underrated)

As for underrated movies...Memento (Christopher Nolan's first movie) is a great movie I had never heard about until recently.

How about The Phantom Tollbooth. HECK YAH. That's one of my childhood favorites.
You could also try Ip Man! Not really underrated but not known in the US yet.
There are tons of great B movies out there that go unnoticed, the cube series is a great example. I think I've seen too many movies to even try here, critters and gremlins are awesome movie series' as well. Too open ended of a question really.

The guy above me mentioned Memento (which is an amazing film), you may also try identity if you like that movie, they are pretty similar.

M, directed by Fritz Lang, possibly his greatest contribution to cinema. Its available on Netflix Streaming.

also, people mentioned it earlier but, I don't know how you could not view Starship Troopers as a parody, it hits the parody button so hard i got a concussion after i watched it. If you wanna watch a better movie just watch Robocop its better in every conceivable way.
Gotta disagree, Starship troopers worked way better for me than robocop. Verhoven is a great director though, i just hated how clunky the action was in robocop.

Orgazmo. It's about a hardcore Mormon in Los Angeles who must raise money for his wedding in Salt Lake City by becoming a porn star.

Phantom tollbooth is a real life into cartoon film from the 70s: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0064806/
I haven't seen it in some 15-20 years but let's be sure about one thing... you're in the doldrums, DON'T SAY THERE'S NOTHING TO DO!!

THX 1138

Alien 3: Special Edition

Those are always the two I suggest whenever the underrated films come up.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans
Why did that movie get such awful reviews? It was GREAT.
AGREED! It was definitely the best of the series. I bought it on Blue-Ray recently.

OT: I feel like 30 Days of Night is really underrated. Sure it's not the best movie ever, but it's definitely a solid movie.

Also, my old staple Equilibrium. Great sci/fi 1984ish movie.

As much as I love Mel Brooks, I went back and watched blazing saddles again recently it just didn't hold up like Spaceballs or Young Frankenstein or History of the World. Actually... go watch any Mel Brooks film.

Great list, you have nice taste in film. there are few i haven't seen. run lola run seems enticing tho.
Heh, well thank you :3
Run Lola Run is a very good film and I've yet to meet a single person who didn't like it and you don't really have to be in any particular mood to watch it, so yeah, it's a good choice.

Just be careful with some of them. Most of the films on my list are quite long and rather draining :3
I like long, draining movies :p any film buff should.
