As much as I love Mel Brooks, I went back and watched blazing saddles again recently it just didn't hold up like Spaceballs or Young Frankenstein or History of the World. Actually... go watch any Mel Brooks film.
used to get drunk and marathon them, good times.

I like long, draining movies :p any film buff should.
Good point! Then that list would definitely help you out here. :3

I'd say one in particular is quite draining though, but it isn't one people would usually think of first...

Grave of the Fireflies, the anime from 1988, if you haven't seen it is probably one of the single most draining, depressing and exhausting films ever. But it's just so amazing, I recommend it to everyone <3

They actually made a live action version and it was.... meh. Mediocre at best, unfortunately but the anime more than makes up for it.

Though, if you want something draining, but really awesome and not really that depressing, look at my number 2 picks on there :D
Park Chan Wook is a genius :3

Chaos [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0402910/], which features the only Jason Statham performance where I've ever seen him break his typecast... even a little.

City Island. I had never heard anything about it until I watched it with my mom. I have seen it two more times since. Truly a wonderful film.

It seems like it would be pretty popular having Jamie Foxx and Tom Cruise in it, but I don't know a single person who has seen Collateral.

The movie I'm recommending didn't get a very big release and may be hard to find. I recommend highly "My name is Bruce" with Bruce Cambell. Its sheer awesomeness in every minute. I would however preface this by saying you probably need to have seen Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness, and a few other random Bruce Cambell, he is a real mans B movie actor :)

The Fall
The Cell
Both The ____ movies created by the same dude, but they're unbelievable nonetheless.

Save the Green Planet and Thirst are both pretty interesting Korean movies. Wing Chun is an amusing martial arts movie, probably one of my all time favorite movies. Not sure if it would count as being underrated considering it won an Academy award for best foreign film, but it may not be very known since it is foreign, so I'll mention Tsotsi. Also awarded but possibly not well known: In The Mood For Love.

...can't really think of anything else off the top of my head that would be underrated and that hasn't already been mentioned. =P
