Dune, The original film from the 80's. seriously underrated for such an amazing Sci-Fi. Only reason why it didn't do well on release was because it came out the same year as one of the original star wars movies, which dwarfed it by comparison. But it is a very Epic film.

Also the first 2 movies that MintyNinja recommended. Those flicks are Awesome too.
Eh gotta say i didnt love dune. then again it has been a long time so maybe i should give it a second look.
its not usualy the kind of movie that most people like on their first viewing. the movie is very deep and poetic. it can sometimes take a few watches to really gain appreciate for it. For me however, i loved it immediately.

The Mission.
It's almost criminal how unknown it is, and yet it has an awesome story, phenomenal acting and one of the best soundtracks ever written (according to AFI, #23 out of 100). It stars Robert DeNiro, Jeremy Irons and a much younger Liam Neeson.
I'm bound to love it, mixing DeNiro and Ennio Morricone is always a good idea. The cast is pretty exciting.

I'm looking for movies to watch that are underrated or under seen. I've seen thousands of movies, and most of the widely popular or mainstream films. Are there any films you consider to be very good that have gone under the radar?
"Accepted," a thousand times "Accepted." It's an amazing movie that almost no one seems to have heard of. It's probably my favorite movie of all time. It's a comedy that satirizes the modern education system.

If satirical comedy isn't really your style, then I would probably suggest the "Tremors" movies which are good solid monster movies geared toward action, not horror. "Evolution" is a pretty good middle ground with a monster movie action feel, but some very light-hearted comedy throughout.
I need to watch tremors again, i remember very little except that it has kevin bacon in it and its a lot of fun. Accepted has an impressive cast so i'll give it a look.

Frailty. Kind of in the same category of Silence of the Lambs: there is some slight blood but mostly it's a psychological thing. Nothing nightmare inducing but it will make you jump a few times. Also proof positive that you don't need a big budget to make an amazing movie.

In Bruges, and Snatch. Both were awesome movies that got WAY less attention then they deserved! I also just recently saw a Christopher Nolan movie called Memento. Very cool!

"Zitra vstanu a oparim se cajem". Produced in Czechoslovakia, 1977. English title: "Tomorrow I wake up and scald myself with tea".

I realize that the idea of a Czech comedy from 1977 does not seem too attractive, but this movie is a criminally underrated masterpiece that deserves every bit of attention it can get.

The story: It is the future. Time travel (strictly for sightseeing purposes) has become commonplace. A group of Nazis are planning to hijack a time machine back to 1944, where (OK, when) they will present Adolf Hitler with a modern type of bomb which will help him win the war.

Unfortunately, the time machine's pilot (who was in on the plot) chokes to death on his breakfast, and his identical twin decides to take over his identity - and with it, his job. The twin thinks he's only supposed to do a routine trip, and causes the plan to go hilariously, spectacularily wrong.

However, the Nazis still have a time machine at their disposal. They return to the day before they left, and try to rectify their mistake. And this is where their problems START...

The movie should be available on eBay, complete with optional English subtitles!

The Rocketeer

A really fun and well-made movie from the early 90's based on a comic book about a pilot who discovers a government-made jetpack. Tanked in the box office.
Personally, I liked it because it reminds me of a time when not all movie characters needed to be angsty, cynical or ironic to be compelling.

Kinda reminds me of Raiders
I felt the same way, its a lot like Raiders! i grew up with this movie and always thought it was a classic that everyone had seen! grew up and figured out im one of the few who sees its genius.

How about Ginger Snaps? It's a Canadian film about two teenage sisters obsessed with death and the elder one becomes a werewolf, essentially. I never would have known about it myself if I hadn't stumbled upon it in a Blockbuster a few years back. It's a pretty awesome movie, actually. The sequels, however... well, skip those and just watch the first one.

I'd suggest a couple of Bill Murray movies that didn't get much attention: "Lost In Translation" and "Broken Flowers". Excellent films both.

"10 items or less" for a taste of Morgan Freeman playing himself and sharing the screen with Paz Vega. Try "Under Suspicion" for a second helping of Freeman with Gene Hackman opposite.

"Brazil" and "Kafka" for a couple mouthfuls of dystopian black and whiteness, one running to frothy and funny while the other stands bitter and cynical. "The Adventures of Baron Munschausen" for a little more Gilliam.

If you'd like a little humourous action, look to "The Matador" or "La Femme Nikita" if you don't mind French with your gunfire. Follow with "3 A.M." for several slices of life and casual crime.

Oh, and just because I know of so few people who've actually seen it, "Wings of Desire".
You make a very good case for each of these movies. Lost in translation is a personal favorite, broken flowers was a very touching movie. I've seen brazil recently and it was way better than i thought it would be. The rest i have yet to see, but you've gotten me interested.

A really small movie called "The man from earth" about a guy who is at a party thrown for him b/c he is about to move away and reveal that he is a caveman who has lived for 1000's of year. Low budget, takes place in one place but really good.
And i also really liked Surrogates with Bruce Willis, really underrated.
1941 was a great ww2 comedy that you never hear about with a lot of the original snl.
And i agree with In Bruges, i have no idea why i like it, i just do.

It even has an 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, nice. i'll keep an eye out.

The 2000 "Dune" and "Children of Dune" (2003). They T.V. miniseries, but both play like movies. They are excellent adaptations of the novels, with impressive casts, acting and musical scores. I watch these films at least once a year. The other of course is "Memento". I find its one of those movies you mention at parties and people either look at you funny or quote lines back to you.

Most people don't seem to know what any of my favourite movies are [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.273264-JKs-Top-25-Favourite-Films], so take your pick of those :3

Man from earth has been on my Netflix instant queue for ages. might watch it now actually. Surrogates was kind of lame, 1941 i want to see cause its like the only Spielberg movie i haven't seen.
