Wizards First Rule by Terry Goodkind

First book in the Sword of Truth series which is just pure awesome.
The quality of those books dropped seriously after Faith of The Fallen *glares at The Pillars of Creation*

I would reccommend The Malazan Book of The Fallen series by Steven Erikson. I've never felt more immersed in a world or cared more for a group of characters than in those books.
Pillars of Creation was probably the worst of the series (far from bad though), but it picked up right afterwards with ChainFire.

Catch-22, Slaughterhouse-five, Cat's Cradle, The Drowned World, Empire of the Sun, A Tale of Two Cities, Bleak House, and I Will Fear No Evil are some of my favorites.
What is Empire of the Sun about?
OT:
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell by David Michaels
The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks
Halo: Contact Harvest by Joseph Staten
And that's about it :p
A boy who befriends Japanese soldiers near the end of WWII. It is incredibly depressing and well-written.
