I'm going with Borderlands here. I solo that game all the time. It's ridiculous fun.

And the original Aliens vs. Predator made by Rebellion way back in '99. You know, back when the aliens were still fast and a real menace you may think of running from, and the world wasn't brightly lit everywhere you go?

Fallout 3 and New Vegas:

- Completely solo
- First person
- Long main questlines, with hundreds of side quests too

My only suggestion to the OP is that he/she forces himself to play any of the suggested games on the highest difficulty setting available.

For example, when I started Mass Effect 2 I chose "Insanity". Rather than slog through the game and get bored, I was forced, over and over again, to flank my enemies, aim carefully, consider my equipment loadouts cautiously... etc

Just play on the hardest difficulty and you might find that the game changes quite a bit. You might also find overcoming enemies to be far more rewarding.

I retract my previous statements. Far Cry 2 is sooo engaging.

Like the story, its so awesome. Its not like its a total piece of shit that some guy who watched Blood Diamond one time to many shat out. The missions are awesome too. If you think that you are going too spend the entire game killing the same dudes in identical environments, you couldnt be more wrong.
It's Africa dude, the most variety you can expect (which is still more than the same old murky samey brown environments you see all the time nowadays) are jungle, scrub, savanna, desert, oasis, grasslands, and rivers/lakes. And you know what? All of them are in the game.

But hey, get this. Haha. Imagine if the devs decided it would be a good idea too make the dudes in these identical bases that obviously dont exist spawn again and again if you so much as set a foot outside of it. Which would mean driving to do a boring mission, taking an hour of boring combat to get there, only to do it all again on your way back! Hahahahaha! Wouldnt that be stupid? Luckily, they avoided this bad design choice. Like, how dumb would you have to be.
That's less a reflection on the game and more a reflection on your inability to think outside the box. You could sneak around. You could snipe everyone first without being seen. You could take a different path. You could take a boat instead. You could just visit a different safehouse. Did I mention you could try taking a different route? I'll say it again, because for some reason It didn't seem to occur to you.

The weapons are great too. I have never seen such realism in a game! Like the AK47. Contrary to what you may have heard, the AK47 is a weapon that isnt very durable and will jam a lot. I mean, hey, it isnt like the AK47 is pretty much the durable fully automatic weapon on the planet. Some crazy nam veterans and weapon experts even claim that you can bury it for a week, pull it out, and get shooting in 5 minutes! Haha! Those crazy americans. Luckily, Far Cry 2 sees through this conspiracy to sell everyone AKs and rights all wrongs by making AKs absolutely useless pieces of shit.
again, if you're too narrow minded to... oh I dunno... buy your own weapons, then you can hardly be surprised when the gun you just looted off a dead enemy is in less than mint condition. And if you think that the AK is all there is to the arsenal... boy are you missing out.

The characters are great too. Another game dev would have made the characters boring, monotonous drones with back stories pulled straight out of "A game developers guide to characters with no imagination whatsoever". Not Far Cry 2. The incredible characters with great voice acting pull you into the plot like non before. As previously mentioned, the plot is great too!
Compared to what, Crysis? Oh please. Compared to Crysis, Far Cry 2 is practically Shakespeare.

Far Cry 2 is possibly the greatest sandbox game ever made. They actually put interesting things in this living, breathing world. Otherwise you would spend the whole game killing the same dudes in the same booooorrrriiiinnggggg fashions.
Describing Crysis again are we? At least FC2 has something Crysis never had: Genuine atmosphere. For once you're not an all-American Marine whose theme song obliterates the very sound of the world around you. Here the music subtly matches the tension that you're experiencing at any given time, in a way that evokes the actual place you are in, not where you are from. Also since you can't rely on your magical invisibility suit to sneak around, employing stealth takes some... you know... actual skill. Which in turn gives you a real sense of reward when you pull it off properly.

And I'd much rather face a repetitious armada of human beings with their own tactics, threats, vulnerabilities and palpable fears than boring nameless faceless alien race #38549 any day.

Seriously.
Im not even going to bother arguing every single point
Well OK, that's your choice I suppose. I wouldn't have thought tackling 5 points would be all that difficult, to be honest.

Theres only so many different tactics you can use... you will have used most of them 3 times after playing for 2 hours... its the same darn objective every time. Every 10 minutes you wind up with the same objective. Get too this point on the map, kill this, steal that.
See, that's not anything unusual for Sandboxes, but you know what? that ALSO describes Crysis, which includes almost as much time waiting for your batteries to recharge as it does actually using them. Sure FC2 isn't the best game ever, but the thread is about GOOD FPSes, and FC2 is better than Crysis, which the OP enjoyed. Therefore, it would be worth checking out for them. You disagree and I respect that. However I disagree with your reasons.

Just read this thread for examples.
Ok: in this thread we have 1 person on the fence about it, eleven who liked it, and 3 that didn't- one being you, another that had graphics card troubles with it, and a third who actually liked Medal of Honor 2010. That puts you in the minority here, my friend.

Complaining about the inaccurate portrayal of guns in a game that markets itself as being realistic is a valid point.
This is true- however Far Cry never once marketed itself as a realistic shooter. Gritty, perhaps, but never realistic.

Burnout 2 was a better game than, say, Big Rigs. Does this make Burnout 2 an enjoyable racing game? Does this mean you should recommend someone to buy Burnout 2?
To someone who said they played and enjoyed Burnout 1, Takedown, Revenge and Paradise? Certainly. This is where subjectivity comes into it again. You don't like Burnout 2. Perhaps you prefer Gran Turismo. Well OK, but that's your opinion. The experiences of the OP led me to believe they might enjoy FC2, so that's what I reccommended them to play, along with other suggestions.

Far Cry 2 has quite a few unique features- some not seen in any other game. Sure some are unpolished, but that can be said of any game trying to break new ground. Personally I think the health bar in FC2 is the best seen in any sandbox- 1st or 3rd person, for instance.

Here's another vote for Jedi Knight 2, definitely one of the best games ever. STALKER is also a good one as is Borderlands (and you do not need to co-op it, it works just fine solo).

Legendary was the most awful POS game I've played in a long time.

Once again, your whole post can be boiled down too "Far Cry 2 is better than Crysis" which still does not make it a good game. Crysis was an absolutely monotone shooter and the only reason it didnt score 6/10 in every user and professional review is the graphics engine.
The only reason I brought it up compared to Crysis is your mention of it as a reference point. If you really think that's all the post was about... then hey- that actually explains your unwillingness to address most of the last message pretty well, now I think about it...

If you are so sure about yourself, how about you make an actual argument beyond this one?
Like I said...

Ive called you out on it roughly 10 times and you choose to ignore it
Yep, sure. Just the same as you wanted us to look at the thread for those not liking the game, to find a whopping three that dislike it. Maths really isn't your strong suit, is it?

And the health bar? Seriously? A health bar in that style has been in about 20 games, before and after FC2.
Show me one sandbox game- just one sandbox game that did it before FC2, and I'll admit I was wrong. Until then, your argument is a complete moot point.

I don't even think people read the OP anymore. It's stunning how many people have listed games the OP has clearly stated he has already played or just games in other genres altogether. Recommend KoToR to someone asking about solo fps games?

Really?

Star Wars Jedi knight: Dark Forces 2.

It's a little dated but seriously... you will love this game. Probs one of the best single player campaigns in a game ever. Plus live action cutscenes!
Great game!! Whenever I go home for the summer I usually end up playing this again.

Not sure if it is on steam, but if it is, get Timesplitters: Future Perfect. Might not be enough to fill 6 hours (never timed it) but it's fun as hell to play. That game is one reason I am holding onto my PS2.

Hell yeah Timesplitters! It reckon it'll fill 6 hours on the hardest difficulty and the challenges will keep you going aswell.

Shame you can't get TS2 for pc, its arguably better and a hell of a lot harder.

I know I might get some flak for this, but I really liked killzone 2-3. The gameplay was great in that the guns had weight. The atmosphere though was awesome. I mean its not terribly long or anything like that. Its your standard length now for an fps... maybe a little bit longer.

Hi everyone. How are you? Long time no see. Glad you're doing better.

Anyway :p

I really do not care about multiplayer. I like the solo experience in a FPS game, but nowadays it's mostly crap. (giving you a list of what i've already tried and loved) I've played Half Life, Portal, Fear, Halo, Call of duty, Battlefield bad company, Singularity, Bioshock, System shock, Deus Ex, Metro 2033, Stalker (did not really like it).

Can you guys suggest good solo fps? A requirement would be it's longer than 6 hours -_- I hate short campaigns (except if it's really good). Oh and it has to be on the PC, hopefully on steam.

Thanks!
DOOM! Just saying.

It's already been said, but Half Life 2. Even if you have already beat it, go back, play it again. I recently played it again and it really made me miss FPS without recharging health.

Operation Flashpoint [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Flashpoint:_Cold_War_Crisis]. The first one. A little dated but a fun game.

While I liked TS2 and it is definitely way more difficult than its successor, I missed the story from Future Perfect and the character interaction. (I played Future Perfect first and then went to go find TS2). The characters, story, and their interaction is one of my favorite things about the game and why I love it so much.

I found TS2's story to be a bit hard to follow, as I was confused as to why I wasn't Cortez in the levels and instead jumping from person to person a la Quantum Leap. And for me, the characters just didn't mean as much. Multiplayer and the challenges were still great though.
