they can have their free speech but shouldn't be able to chuck their useless gander at the services from across the street. it should be a law to not protest a gosh damn funeral. why do you protest about someone who passed away? for good or bad??? there's no point! btw isn't privacy an American right too?

Then those who do not agree with the people in power would be forever silenced, hereby destroying the First Amendment. See where that course of action goes?

No matter how much you hate them, they do have the right to protest. No matter how much you disagree with their message, you cannot take away their right to say it. That is a basic right given to every Human being in the USA.

This is outrageous.

It's one thing to denounce the service of military personnel in most cases, though upon doing so I would respect you less than I would respect a hybrid of Stalin, Hitler, Himmler, and every form of cancer known to man (if that helps to illustrate my resentment), such as at a speech where, yes, it makes sense to uphold freedom of speech, but to protest the funeral of anyone, no matter what their service, and disrespect their family, friends, their life, and their person in general is an injustice to all those just mentioned that no self-respecting court should ever let slide.

If for no better reason, suppress them for harassment, and, really, infringing upon the rights of the dead to have lived his life the way he would have wanted to live it. They have no right to be so flagrantly beyond your limits.

In reality that saying is misquoted, the actual saying is ''Think for yourselves and let others enjoy the privelige to do so.'' No one ever said you have to put up with hatred and ignorance.

While the WBC are all whackos that should be beaten savagely with a rubber hose I do agree with the Supreme Court. One day they will cross the line, someone will snap, and there will be an interesting murder case to watch.
If they get caught, will they be thrown in jail, or given a medal?

I do think the Supreme Court is right, because if they did block their ability to speak, many more people will side with them, so yeah, let them speak, but let's not listen. Let them realize it's worthless.

Captcha: VertP, ofctqu

What the...? What is a ofctqu?
I know I would have a hard time convicting them and I tend to be a "letter of the law" kind of guy.

As a law student myself, I can not agree more with the Supreme Court. I am a huge proponent of freedom of speech. There are very few forms of expression that I believe should not be protected (e.g.: slander).

Then i must take down the U.S. with them...
And doing so would cause a global economical collapse. You know, like it would if you took out ANY world power. Thereby, you'd be ruining the lives of billions of people, just because you don't like a couple of protesters.

Well... they are protected.
Believe me, I know how hard it is to defend first amendment rights for those who appear to use it as an excuse to troll, but taking anyone's right to the first amendment, for any reason, is asking for trouble.

I still wish they'd show some damn human decency, though...

But what are they protesting? They aren't protesting a injustice, they are just spewing hate. It's not that same as protesting the government taking a right away.

They already have. They get bricks thrown at them and biker gangs keep them a certain distance from such funerals out of respect for the soldiers.
Perhaps a brick to the head might get their brain knocked back a notch so that they can think about the shit that they pull off

they say the first amendment should protect those assholes, but i say funeral services should be protected against the first amendment.

freedom of speech is fine and all, as is protesting, but these people are causing incredible amounts of emotional pain.

also, the fact that they protect BULLSHIT that has nothing to do with the person that died should be taken into account.

and by the way, their protests are absolutely harassment. the people attending these funerals, not to mention the departed, are not public figures. itd be like following someone around and shouting hate speech at them. even if you were a good distance away, its still harassment.
