Having to have a surgery like that while feeling some amount of the pain? It just gives me shivers.

Wow. Just...wow.

I think 4 months of jail time would be enough for that nurse to think about what she did.

Its partially his own fault if he still went ahead into surgery. He should have refused and found out what was up, because if a nurse told me to man up, I would have told her to fuck off.

Seriously, who the hell lets themselves go into surgery when not fully prepared.

Edit: It's been edited. I know the nurse is a douchebag, I read the story. I still blame the guy for not questioning, but I don't put all the blame on him.

Better now?

Aren't hospitals supposed to check their nurses to make sure that they aren't addicted to any type of drugs?
Seems like a logistics failure to me.

And clearly this man is a pussy. I mean, who needs pain medication when you can just enjoy the fantastic feeling of having your kidneys being poked by needles and other fantastic surgical tools?

Eh...for something like that...yeah, that would hurt too much. I bet he wished that he passed out from the pain. I certainly would have.

I have had minor surgery done without sedation before. It was just to remove part of a toenail that was digging into my skin, causing infection. It was bad enough that I couldn't put on a shoe any more, and had to get someone to remove it. That was unpleasant, but I found out I can take it.

Now, whenever I get an ingrown toenail like that, I do it myself, with nail clippers. It bleeds way more than I'd like it to, but it gets the job done.

That's horrible. Not just that the nurse nicked the meds for herself, but that she and the others in the OR could actually watch another human being suffering like that without at least stopping the procedure.

At first, i thought the guy was going to have have an injection or something to take away the pain, but he wanted sedation. The topic is a little bit misleading. I was going to say that several years back i had to have four teeth out at once to make room for braces. I thought i was going to be sedated for it, as it was a lot to happen in one go, but instead i got stuck on the hospital bed, jabbed about twelve times in eight different places with the biggest needle you ever did see, and the guy just wrenched them out. I was a little bit scared, but saw it wasn't so bad after the injections to numb the pain. The worst part actually came after, when i would constantly bleed out of my mouth (to the point of having to have some kind of cottong wall ball thing in my mouth to soak it up) and being able to only eat ice cream and soup, and even then getting blood in it. Modern medicine is a messy thing, folks.

But yeah, anecdote aside, i hope that poor man gets some kind of compensation for this.

I like to think I'm immune to most things that gross people out, but I've always had a terrible fear of surgery without anesthesia...

...my prayers go out to the guy...

She's right! A real man would've removed the kidney himself with a pocket knife, washed it out while he chewed on live rattle snakes, then put it back, and burned the wound closed!

Worst. Nurse. Ever.

How could you watch someone being inflicted with so much pain that they didn't even need just for some drugs? She should have to pay for all compensations for the poor guy and have to face criminal charges for stealing from a hospital, nonetheless.

Wow... that nurse is a *****. Whatever happened to getting into a business to help the patient?

I mean... I've had arms snapped out of place and then snapped back in, but that... Thats just insane. Even I wouldnt do that (and I've done some crazy shit).

Maybe I missed it, but why wouldnt thje doctors stop. I mean, yeah, sometimes the medication doesnt take, but couldnt you just reschedule?

I would strongly believe I should be under anesthesia for the procedure, in any case- I'd have the choice at least unless there is a complication that precludes this, to which a doctor would give you a full briefing into.

If I was there, I'd know the nurse was trying to play to ignorance, I'd have gotten up- tubes spurting blood out of my back n all and punch her in the face and get me a doctor.

Well, it's okay- I'm sure she would have had her nursing qualifications revoked, so goodbye dignified employment and somewhat respectable income, and hello sucking your pimps dick for more pain medication that she's so enthralled with.

Definitely not a way to go - at the end of such a miserable life, what are you going to say for it? "I ruined my life because I couldn't help myself but take pain medication", seek help, seriously- as a nurse, you'd know better working in the health industry.

Let's just remember (or read the article) that this was not some hospital policy which led to insufficient medication, this was a nurse trying to steal drugs which led to the problem.

There's thieves and crooked folks in every profession, mecicine is no different.

Definitely not a good situation though, and looks bad that she got under the radar in terms of drug use.
