Goofy in Kingdom Hearts. at least I could turn him into a second keyblade in Kingdom Hearts II, I guess that made him a little useful.

Rico from Killzone 2. He marches into the gunfire, gets knocked down and yells at you to revive him while you're actually being careful for the entire gunfight, and storywise, without going into too much detail, he effectively loses the game for you. That guy needs to get killed.
He was so badass in the 1st games as well :(

But yeah forgot about Rico all brawn no brain

JO-Beth Casey from time splitters future prefect. She shoots you constantly, and is only good for shooting her with harpoons and laughing

Near enough all the AI in gears of war 1. Namely Dom; he was constantly in my way, so much so i've vowed to never play the game in single player ever again.

EDIT: Forgot about one shining example of useless Cait-Sith. I mean he did nothing, and he came into the game pretty far in too and was just well... useless.

Dogmeat

Did nothing useful, charges at enemies I'm trying to SNEAK past, terrible in combat, dies

I love dogs, but that's not a dog. It's an annoying and overly aggresive block of wood

On top of that, whoever designed it sure as F*CK has never met a dog. They don't continuely pant loudly and roughly at an alarmingly slow pace. Dogmeat sounds like someone's sawing some wood

Dogmeat goes GU-HUH ... GU-HUH ... GU-HUH...

A normal Dog goes Pah-ha-hu-ha-hu-ha-hu-ha-hu-ha and then stops for a while

Sazh from FFXIII. For the longest time, he was your best magic user. Near the end though, his stats are the worst in the game, and they don't get better. It's really disappointing, especially considering how awesome Sazh is.

The Adoring Fan in Oblivion. The fact that he respawns every few days is just proof that Bethesda hates us...
He`s great for improving your combat stats though , take him to a secluded area and kill him with the weapon of your choice (i used him to max out archery ,for all the good it does )
True, and in the end, I suppose it IS worth it. But it's irritating that he always comes back and still LOVES you no matter how many times you give him the pink slip. Makes you feel just a twinge guilty for shooting him or stabbing him or pushing him off a cliff, etc.

Just a little, then I set him on fire, but I digress...

For the fun of re-sparking this thread I'll add in all of the new Smash Bros. Brawl characters. Melee was the best of the three, and Snake just doesn't work with this kind of thing. Sonic either.

Seth in Street Fighter IV. When you play through Arcade Mode for the first time, he seems like such a great character. He's got Dhalsim's stretchy limbs, Guile's Sonic Booms (with a Hadouken input, strangely enough), Ryu's Shoryuken and an interesting variation on Zangief's Spinning Piledriver. Should be the ultimate fighter, right?

Well, in theory, he is. In theory. In practice, he has the least stamina of anyone in the game. Depending on the opponent, he can lose almost half his lifebar from as little as two solid hits. In capable hands, Seth can be a real contender, but that doesn't change the fact that it takes almost nothing to put him down. It cancels out any usefulness he might have had.

Because once you get bahamut every character in FFX is useless.
I am no expert in FFX but can't anima kick bahamuts ass?

On topic and the same game, Kimahri ... just what the fuck? Ok, he is a cross between Wakka's accuracy and Aurons strength but you can just use Auron and Wakka.

Also every NPC soldier in almost every FPS campaign.

Aeris.

I'm glad that ***** died
I AGREE!
Also throw in everyone else from Final Fantasy VII except Zack. He was a one man army. The rest were useless fools.
Wow, I thought I was gonna die since i forgot my flame shield but......... a positive on this? Have the fanboys come to their senses?!

All seriousness, i really thought i was gonna get flamed
My first playthrough of VII involved very little use of Aeris, mostly cause I liked what Tifa and Barret could do. On the second playthrough, I knew Aeris was going to die, so I used her even less.

Mereador in MARDEK 3. I'd been anticipating him joining the party since the first game was released 3 years ago, and then when I discovered he was actually playable I almost wet myself. Unfortunately, my bladder dried out a little the first time I got into a fight with the bastard; not a single useful offensive skill, he can't actually learn any abilities, and the only way to make him any stronger is to grind for hours looking for obscure and otherwise-useless items to craft into his bloody useless inventions.

Also, his damn robot thing. It's been hyped since the beginning of the series, and in theory it should be incredible; learns new abilities as it fights different sorts of enemy, and so on. The only problem is that you only get the robot three quarters of the way through the fucking game, so you need to backtrack through every area you've visited previously if you want it to be any more practical than an enormous hammer made of butter.

Fair enough. She's not useless though, which was my point :p
To you maybe hahaha.
Step one: Hit summon.

Step two: Pick a summon, any summon!

Step three: Summon overdrive.

Boss battle over, barring the bonus bosses. And she's still one of the most useful characters for all of those, again due to her summons.

Rikku was freakin' useless unless you had a real need for items (on some low level playthru or something). Tidus wasn't particularly useful either. Auron to tank, Wakka for accuracy + sick overdrive, Yuna for heals and summons is all you need to cake-walk the game, if you're doing a standard playthrough.

EDIT: Yeah, Anima was stronger than Bahamut. By the end of the game (by which I mean the 100% completed version end of the game), all your aeons do max damage with every hit, which is 99,999 damage. This makes Bahamut essentially as strong as Valefor, while Anima's multi-hit attack is...I'm not sure if it's the strongest or if it's weaker than the Three Sisters. It's good tho.

Who the fuck necro'd this topic? But clearly you haven't read shit in this topic so I'll say it for the nth time. While Anima can kick Bahamut's ass and renders him useless, you get bahamut far earlier and Anima is entirely optional.
Who pissed in your cornflakes this morning? You expect me to look through 7 pages to find your posts? Sorry, your not that important. If you want to find out who necro'd it look at who posted way ahead of everybody else. Jeez.

That means bahamut is useless aswell, Anima is optional but who would choose not to get one of the most powerful yet easy to get aeons? Although in a good fight the magus sisters would destroy anything in that game, like if they didn't rest etc.
