The game is awesome and is easily the best MMO I've played to date. Granted it's just WoW with Bioware storytelling, but that's all it needs to be in order to be great.

Still I can't justify a monthly subscription to the game. I value the game $60 as I do many other great games. It will likely cost me hundreds of dollars to play the story through with all 8 classes at a pace I'm comfortable with. The game isn't worth that kind of money to me from my hours spent on the beta.
You don't have to play all 8 classes though, I'm pretty certain the endgame requires one main character.
I'd imagine you're correct. But that didn't stop me from play KOTOR 1&2 with each class. Multiple plays give the game it's replay value and using a different class brings new combat tactics. It's all part of the gaming experience even if it's not required.
Yes but this is an MMO and not a singleplayer game so most of the content will probably be in the endgame :p

No, I played the beta for a few hours and I just couldn't get into it. Maybe later on if I decide it's worth it, but I won't be getting it at launch.

No, I don't like star wars themed games (except KOTOR2 for some reason) and I need something more than the star wars name to get me playing. SW:TOR sadly doesn't bring anything in that is significant beyond its theme.

It automatically goes into the "no" section for me purely because it's a MMO.

Not sure, really not sure. I've played the beta and enjoyed it, but is it worth a full release plus fees. Its good not great. Even if I do get TOR it will merely be a placeholder until GW2, thats what I'm really waiting for.

One worringly note is how TOR performs on my laptop. Getting a horrible framerate even though my comp meets the recommended settings, this is with every graphics setting on the lowest. Hoping this just a beta issue.

Hell no. WoW with a Star Wars skin. No, thank you. Further, these Star Wars offshoots are really jumping the shark. Give me the original 3. Leave the rest at home.

Also, there's GW2 to plan for. So, no I need to get my 50/50 HoM plx.

I will definitely get it at some point (Not in the first month or so, wait for initial flood of ppl to b over, and some reviews), becuae it's Star Wra, It's Biowar, and it looks like it will be be a better WoW-style MMORPG than WoW (Which is currently the best game of that style of MMORPGs).

That said, I will not pay for mre than the free month, I'll wait for it to go Free To Play, or Pay To Play (Guild Wars 1&2 model. Pay normal price for game, $50-60, then play forever, with cosmetic non-gameplay micro-transactions).

Well, it's not just the story, you are paying for more than that, it's the whole MMO experience.
I don't want the MMO experience, so I'm certainly not paying for it.

I was originally going to buy it until I heard about the subscription fee and then I remembered the whole reason I quit World of Warcraft and decided that if I want to know more about Star Wars I can just buy KOTOR, which I feel ashamed to admit I have never played.

I'm not paying monthly to get the story I should have got in KoTOR3.
Entitlement, woo!!

On-topic, although I've already lived out my MMO phase with Guild Wars, I've found the beta to be a very fun experience, especially if you have someone to play it with. The social methods this game implements are very nicely done and up the enjoyment factor by a lot. I dunno if I'll have time and opportunity in the university though, especially because of proxy server. But the game is good, I can attest to that.

No, not initially at least. It's reasonably good fun and the story/dialogues is quite engaging, but it's a single player game, extremely linear, and once you get your companion combat is just broken completely.

Add to that there's a few small but singificant failures that surprise me because they're so obvious and avoidable - like weather effects where you can see rain falling in the sky but it has no effect on the ground, or on nearby pools of water. Why even put it in if you're going to half ass it that much? Then there's the conversations you overhear as you pass by NPCs... only if you keep running you can be hundreds of metres away and yet the scripted conversation continues to play out, at full volume, with no sense of distance or direction. It's only 'beta' for one more month, and somehow I doubt things like this will be getting fixed.

No day/night cycle, no exploration worth a damn, dozens of clones of 'your' companion running around, and graphics that are clean and neat but so bland I haven't wanted to reach for my screenshot command once all weekend. I'll play it some way down the line, perhaps, but I won't be in the launch queue.
