Also, swearing is meant to show EMPHASIS. (Just like caps :D) When it's used so frequently on XBL, it loses its meaning almost instantly. This is why I almost never play with a headset unless I'm with people I know IRL. It's weird how much better an online community seems when you can't hear it.

Yeah, exactly. I'm in Recreation myself, but I get matched with Pro and even Underground players all the time. The entire zones thing seems to be kind of pointless.

Real-time censoring? Even if that is possible (it might I don't know) how are they gonna do that for the millions of people that play on XBL, that has to mission impossible (without Tom Cruise) for microsoft.

Anyone in high school or beyond should be very used to cussing and naughty words in general, and anyone who plays shooters on XBL should by now be desensitized to any but the most creative and original combinations of adjectives, verbs, and nouns (and adverbs and gerunds if you want to get technical).

Edit: To the poster above me, they do say something along the lines of "game content may change during online play," and what I always assumed they were suggesting is that any and all of the language and behavior typically brought online by the immature middle school crowd becomes a part of the game and to, for lack of a better term, deal with it. But that's just my assumption, and we all know what assuming does.

yea, XBL is a jungle of 12 year old kids who just learned how to use profanity. And of course, once you learn something new its natural instinct to keep on doing it, especially when you cant physically shove a sock in their mouth over the interwebs.

I agree they only learn how to swear from other people, so if one person on XBL starts to swear al the jonger ones will think; "hey that's cool, let's do that."

Swearing is an innate part of the XBL community. Especially when you're a girl and you've declined someone's invitation to suck their balls... >.> Mute button is a wonderful invention.
I don't tend to swear myself, I tend to say 'frack'... which is a form of cussing, but It's not MY fault Battlestar Gallactica is so awesome...
It's NOT your fault! I played an entire match of Gears 2 trying to organize my team using what I thought was a Saul Ty voice... "Fracking get it together" and other such inspirational phrases, but then some little kids with squeaky voices thought I hadn't learned how to swear correctly and tried to teach me. Also they called me an old man, so I guess the Colonel Ty thing was pretty spot-on?

Usually I don't even bother with the mic, but I leave the arguing, bitching voices on speaker. Girlfriend thinks they're hilarious.
Ah, I'm so glad someone agrees! Hah! That would have been awesome. If only more people would imitate Colonel Ty on XBL, for then the world would be a better place! Haha, now i'm imagining Ty playing Gears... It makes me giggle! I like having a headphone on becaue there are nice people on XBL, they're just usually drowned out by the immature ones...

I find it quite irritating when the male population of Xbox Live make offensive and sexual comments towards me because I'm a girl.

Sometimes I let them go on for a bit and then lie and say 'sorry, but I'm a fourteen year old boy, really.'

The reactions are classic.
I know exactly how you feel! I've found its been the worst on Halo 3. How about you?

I swear alot on XBL. But I am ALWAYS in a party with friends who sear alot aswell.

I have my voice set to speakers+headset, so I hear alot of people swearing at me almost every game. Just because my K/D Ratio on CoD5 is 3.31 DOES NOT mean Im a fag okay?

Giving teenagers microphones and a scenario where nothing they say can ever have real life repercussions for them was always going to lead to swearing. It's just how gamers roll I suppose. Throw in some planet- sized egos, an Elitist culture (I love big words) and people killing other people in 'frustrating for some, crazily awesome for others' ways and you get XBL.

There's nothing really wrong with it, it's just how gaming with mikes is.

On occasion, by which i mean most of the time, the swearing and insults on xbox live are hilarious!

it is also completely understandable, especialy when there are 10 year old kids with unbelievably high pitch voices screeching down the microphone and consequentially making your ears bleed.

if you are interested in serious racial abuse by the way then GTA4 is the place to go as the American players tend to flame eveeryone who "isnt from round there" and come uo with some classic insults.

I hate most of the people... no i hate most of the kids on xbl.You can kill them hundreds of times but if they kill you once you'll never hear the end of it. They also call you a fag every time you kill them,it gets annoying after awhile.
