Some things you can trust him on, some you can't.

So if he complains that the game has awful camera angles, terrible controls, or is completely broken, then he's frequently right. If he complains about a fighting game, complains that a movie is too cinematic, or complains about the campaign mode of a game that exists for online play, ignore him.

Taking any stranger's opinion to heart is unlikely to work out, and a bad habit to get into. Reviewers, especially, like to take an extreme view in order to make their work more entertaining to their readers. And it is certainly more fun to rip on a game's flaws than to praise it. You'd be better off asking friends who have similar taste or just renting the game to test it out first. That's what I do.

Well, his review schedule is so far behind releases that it really isn't that relevant to a purchase decision.

As with any critc/reviewer; if you generally agree with him, consider it. If you don't, don't. Reviews are opinion. Like anything else, find someone with similar opinions to listen to. If it happens to be Yatzee, great; if not, great, listen to someone else.

He has said a few times that if he doesn't mention something, it's probably decent; and he'll usually indicate parts that stand out as "good".

Me, I don't have money for gaming purchases to make decisions on right now; but yes, I would take his opinion into consideration as I tend to agree with what he says about games that I've already played. It is usually the most annoying and glaring problems that ruin a game for me, especially if they waste my time. I don't have a lot of time for gaming and I'd rather not spend it pissed off at the one flaw that takes hours even if the rest of the game is awesome.

But there are different strokes for different folks.

I view his reviews as interesting, and nine times out of ten I'll agree with everything he says, however he's never influenced me to enjoy or not enjoy/ buy or not buy a game I wanted or liked

I take Yahtzee's ZP series to be more of a comedy about the industry from someone who knows something about it and its quite good quality writing. But as reviews go, I like to play games for myself before giving them a vote, so most reviews won't stop me from getting a game that I was intent on buying.

Though I do check out some games or rent some because of what Yahtzee says, since I do like to play some crap every now and then

I think Yahtzee would be pretty disappointed that anyone takes him more seriously than "Loud mouth with audience". He is clearly of the belief that no ones opinion is more important than yours when it comes to a game and, lets face it, if you are hurt because he doesn't like a game you do like it is something you should be hit for thinking.

He's more about being funny than giving constructive reviews but he brings up some good points in his reviews. Some of the funniest stuff he does is when he takes a flaw of the game and blows it completely out of proportion for lol's.

Well, considering I like JRPGs and the last time he reviewed a game I wanted to buy was back when he reviewed TWEWY, the point is entirely moot. You take into account your preferences and his, and the fact that his schtick is exaggerating flaws in games.

I used to take his reviews seriously, then he started just hating most things and I kinda stopped enjoying what he was saying. Now I pretty much just laugh at what hes saying and take him only as entertainment not as a person with any real relevant opinion, since he has made it very clear we have VERY different ideas about what makes games good or bad.

I generally agree with the faults that he finds in games. I don't agree with them to the extreme he takes them, but that's his shtick. That's why it's funny, but that's why his reviews don't really influence my buying decisions at all.

EH its his job really. I mean he hated fable two and I loved, LOVED it. I will get fable three and play it for hours on end. No matter how many people including yahtzee say really. I mean he doesn't review for the masses really. I have weird game choices really.

Pretty much, we get these topics too much, either grave-dig last months/weeks or don't post, its just getting to become silly now.

i take his reviews to heart... but not without some disagreement... he's an awesome reviewer, and i'm a fan, but i disagree with a lot of his reviews... RE5 for one. i actually agree with his viewpoint on the Inventory system, but the game's fun despite it.

I've never really paid much attention to Yahtzee's opinions that much since he said that nobody gives a shit about multi player in Halo 3, which is the only reason anyone i know even played that game after about 2 weeks. I think his reviews are funny, but some of his reviews just make no sense.

Honestly Yahtzee is a great game reviewer but as he himself says and all of us know he doesn't do multi-player, so as a primarily PC Multi-player gamer his reviews are often not very useful. For example while he ragged on MWF2 for it's retarded storyline the singleplayer was actually decent when you compare it to the god awful problems created by Infinity wards decision not to make dedicated servers.
