I take his opinion into account tbh because he only picks out flaws.
This makes his reviews helpful if you actually think instead of follow.

If he says, oh this is the worst bit of this game and heres why, then you think, oh that sounds like something I don't really mind, then you'll probably like it

I sometimes rent the games he bashes on to see if his humor can improve my experience with mediocre titles. The verdict?

Not by a long shot...

Still, comic negativity is no barometer for one's own judgment.

I tend to listen to Yahtzee for certain games, because he does bring up excellent points on things of the game.

With that said, you cannot base your ideas solely on his, because you might be into games he doesn?t like, because we all have our own opinion and tastes. If we didn?t we would all be stuck playing the same type of videogame over and over again, without the chance of any cool and new innovative ideas coming to surface.

I happen to like hearing Yahtzee?s reviews because they tend to say things some other reviews won?t say, while keeping me entertained. Now, that doesn?t mean I am a mindless zombie following another persons words. What I do is I take what he has to say and listen to any major points that he brings up. If they were small points that I might overlook and the game does look like a good game overall, then I would probably still get it. If, however, he brings up something that shines a light on a big design flaw I would probably stay away from it, because I know there are other games out there and I do not want to invest solely on a game that would be bad.

He is going to point out the bad stuff, because that is his job. What you have to do is look at the stuff he says and see if you might overlook it, or if the rest of the game is good enough for the flaws to not matter. He also points out good stuff to and does a rundown of what the game is about. Often, you will notice he does show that some games have really good aspects. You just do not notice them right away because you are too distracted by the negative comments. If you listen though, he does try to show most of the points so you do get a good idea of what the game is about.

Yahtzee isn?t just there to poke fun joke. His reviews are to explain a game so you can know a little about it before you drop your life savings into the pockets of videogame companies. It is always nice to get a second opinion from someone who knows what he is talking about, and Yahtzee is not limited to what he can say so you know what he says is how he feels.

At most, you can always just rent the game and see if you like the game yourself. It is not the review writers? job to form your opinion, unless you are a reviewer, which in this case I might ask why you need to know others opinions if you already have a square mind of your own. Really, reviews are there to give a game overview so you don?t waste your money.

I would take to heart what the review says, but I would not make it my only opinion. I would still go and see if I might like it or not with a demo, or at most read a second review.

Yahtzee is usually right about a lot of the things he says. He does make stuff comedic, but he still is giving his opinion supported with evidence from the game.

His articles and Zero Punctuation are there to help a potential buyer learn a bit about the game so they don?t go out and buy it blindly, only to later realize it is a pile of junk; an expensive pile of junk at that.

If he is joking, he will mention that he is joking. Likewise, if he is not joking he will tell his opinion and have stuff from the game to back it up. Usually he is very good about finding the really big ideas of the game and telling us if it is good, bad, or on the fence. He will tell you if a game is a good game, despite all of the stupid mistakes. He will also tell you if the game is too bad of a game for you to drop money on. Also he will tell you that some games are good, he just doesn?t like them because he is not into that particular type of game.

He does do a good job of giving a summary of what the game is about. He does explain to you each aspect of the game play, story, and other technical stuff about the game. You just have to pay attention to what he says and if you are actually looking to buy the game, pay attention to the game elements he breaks down and ask yourself if that is the game you would like or if you would rather just rent it or skip it all together.

Almost all of what he says is true only blown hugely out of proportion. Quite often i will play a game, then watch the review and go 'thats so true' but never mind because i dont think its effected me.
I would generally buy a game based on price, summary and metascore but his reviews are always good to take into account.

Yahtzee has an interesting way of reviewing that differs from other review shows and magazines. He really looks deep into the game without bias, pointing out the things that other reviews miss. (Are you listening Nintendo Power?)

I normally agree with him on how good a game is. Even with games such as Super Smash Brothers Brawl and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion I found what he said to be right on the mark, even though I still enjoyed the games.

We need more people like Yahtzee in the review field that aren't friends with benefits with the gaming companies.

I usually borrow games before I buy them, because I also take a car for a test spin. And naturally I also read a bunch of reviews beforehand. I do take Yahtzees reviews into account and his arguments carry a lot of weight, but his reviews are not the only ones I study before a purchase.

Most of the games he reviews I don't intend on buying anyway.

Tho some, for example Valkyria Chronicles, I think I would enjoy whatever how shit he says it is (I haven't actually played it cause I can't afford a PS3 atm (tho I did hear its coming to 360? or was that something else...)). I know he hates JRPGs, but they are like crack to me, so I can watch the review just for the entertainment and not to decide whether to buy it or not.

Incidentally, Valkyria Chronicles is one of my favorite reviews of his, mostly because of how much he hates it and how much I think I will want to marry it.

edit:whoops completely misspelled the name

No, I can make decisions on my own. The only game I've gone wrong with is Two Worlds, and that's because I didn't research it enough.

I don't even find Yahtzee funny anymore. It was good for the first episodes, though.

What he says is true, but he seems to make mountains out of mole hills. I guess he just rips on almost every game he sees for comical effect, and it works, really well.

If he says a game sucks, I usually ignore it since he hates some of my favorite games, but when he says he likes a game, I'm all over it.

I'm lucky enough to have about his taste in games, so if he recommends a game, it usually means I'll like it, and I'll check it out if I haven't already.
But there are also many points I disagree with, and if you really listen to him very carefully you can sometimes make out he is just talking plain shit. Example: Thief review, where he said Thief was superior to every other stealth game in the world because
a) you could defend yourself very well (which he then quickly stated as bullshit, but never explained anything)
b) it's open-world to a certain degree, something which I didn't find to be that important - I play many stealth games and I didn't need stuff like that in any of them
c) he likes the main character so much

So, yeah. Like with every review out there, I take his opinion with a grain of salt.
