I'm loving how half the comments clearly show the reader didn't look at anything other than the title

THE TRANSACTION ARE FOR THINGS THAT ARE DROPPED FOR FREE ANYWAY. It's a way of making profit from rich, impatient people

Having said that, I just KNOW they'll put in some code that ensures that the buyer get a random drop of the item they brought for money for days after the purchase. Valve are hilarious like that.
This. I'm more than happy to have them include a store. That rocket launcher I really, really want but I'm so unlucky it never drops? I can spend maybe a buck or two for it and get it. Then I could use it without having burnt myself out on TF2 while grinding for it.

I don't see why so may people are against this, as it's not like you get an advantage from buying stuff instead of getting it from a drop.

Ugh I see only one bad side of this is the trade system as amount of people asking for certain hats is annoying...still what mute is for (and oh how I do love that feature.) All been said just another feature will never use as care little for hats and all that jazz, as got a gun some common sense and know pretty much layout of every map and that's all I need to play and dominate 70% of people on-line I don't need a fancy hat to do that.

the joke is i cant play tf2 AFTER I BOUGHT IT! it worked for 1 day and now it always says the servers are too busy
This happens all the time when a big update is released. Just give it a day, it should be back to normal.

I never played TF2 (i played TF1 and thought that was enough), so i can't understand the details. But i can't help noticing how worked up people got in this thread over micro-transactions...is it really that bad?

I think the only reason they did this was to stop ebay item trading...who wants to buy a weapon for $20 dollars when the valve sells it wayy cheaper..it think i haven't seen the prices yet tough lol.
I'm pretty sure that's why they made the store. And to "make some f$*&ing money already".

I am completely obsessed with getting fish kills now. I hope it never gets old.

I kinda stopped playing TF2 cos I missed a couple of big release events and never seemed to get any drops other than the nine I already had (seriously, I enjoyed it when new weapons were rewards for hitting achievement milestones - at least it meant something then :/)

Not sure I'd start again, but it's nice to know that I wouldn't have to grind forever to get, say, a spy unlock.

No. Not at all.

It harms no one at all, no one is in a worse position than anyone else. Its all fine. People are just overreacting.

If you can buy the items and find them via drop system: FUCK YEAH!

If you can ONLY buy them: FUCK THAT!
read the FAQ FUCK YEAH!

I believe the only items that aren't dropped are the key, the crate, and both the name tag and paint can other wise all other items are dropped.

The internet has gone crazy without doing its research properly, the Team Fortress 2 facebook page is going mad.

OMG VALVE ARE THE NEW ACTIVISION.

Firstly, updates have been free for 3 years.

Secondly, items still drop.

The internet is full of ungrateful swines. And idiots.
QFT. Granted, I'm a little wary of the marketplace they've put in, but considering we've gotten all the class updates and everything included I can't really complain. Plus, all the items are still included in the current drop system and each one has an actual craft recipe. And on top of that every single item they've added is unnecessary and not game-breaking. I really wish people would calm down and actually read the information provided.

I just took a peek at the details for this Mann-conomy, and there is a lot more. Players will also be able to trade and sell items both standard drop and custom made in the ingame store. Adding this factor makes this new feature a bigger win.
Not to mention the potential that this reveals for what could be done with Steam Wallet.

Pixels may have just become a tradeable resource. Just remember never to buy on margin.

I will have to keep an eye out on how the price for the 10-Gallon hats go. :D

I see no problem with this. As long as Valve don't start releasing exclusive items for sale, it's all good with me.

Heh, they're not selling maps because one person would simply modify it, repackage it, then set up a free server using it.

Plus a thousand geeks would break into their headquarters and burn it to the ground in rage.
