At the risk of sounding a complete tool, I offer you this.

Its not about topping the rankings, its about having a good time.

Example: Today on badwater basin, I played as a medic. I came about 5th from last, yet had an awesome time ducking fire and saving up my ubers for the big pushes.

And one last point about charging rifle shots: Do it! I fired at a sniper and an engineer today, got a headshot on both, it did nothing. Heavies are especially notorious for this.
