oo I don't think I used any idler. I did go on a server and just stay there afk for hours when it first came out with the sniper/spy update. so maybe I will get a free hat

Now I'll have to just go to a server and delete the items manually when I wake up, how cheaty of me. Valve banned a convenience item, there is no cheating.

You have to accept that right now, Valve has defined idling as cheating. I used the idler in the past, sure, but back then it was, as you said, a convenience item, and a way to hopefully snag a hat. Now they've come out and specifically stated that idling is cheating, as it explots the random drop system, you are a cheater if you find other ways to do it. It's their game and platform, and right now you're going to need to swallow your pride and follow their rules.

The hat drop rate has been increased, that's enough for me.

Awesome! Just checked, and all my characters have Cheater's Lament. I guess it's a little halo that most of my characters can wear (except my medic, because he already has a hat).
