Valve have decided to act, and apparently those that have used the idler will have the relevant items removed, those that have not used the idler apparently will receive a free hat.

I think it's hilarious. The hats are rare because thats what make them worth getting, their novelty would quickly wear off if everyone had one
Also people who claim the trading system will suck dont seem to understand. If you get a hat for a class you dont play, you can trade it for one for one you do play (or one you like more)
the trading system would've taken ages before anyone would actually trade stuff since barely anyone has anything worth trading.

I never did see a point in NOT PLAYING THE GAME to get items. That kind of defeats the purpose.

As for hats, who really cares? Since the game is in first person, it BARELY makes any difference.

Why on Earth did they change the achievement system? It was perfect. Random hats I can get on board with but I spent ages playing before I got the Axtinguisher or the Ubersaw and now I have them to piss away.

Completely hatless, I finally gave up and started idling last week. "What the hell," I figured. "Everyone else does it. Might as well start." I never even got anything out of it. And now I don't get the free hat.

If I had resisted just a few days more...

What hat, and do we get it soon as we log on, or do we have to log on at a certain day or time?
Glad to see them cracking down. I got my weapons [And the 500 fucking copies of the Blutsager and Jarate] mostly through playing it normally. I did use achievement servers a few times, and I helped a fellow Escapist, but, I've never used an idler program.

See, the problem I have with the current action taken by Valve is how its going to work. I used the idler for about a period of a week, and beforehand I had every item except for Bonk. Since using the idler I received duplicates of a lot of items, I had to go into my backpack and delete the copies. What if the ones I left over were the new items? Will they be taken, or will the fact that I already owned almost everything prior to using the idler be taken into account?

I'm going to be mighty pissed off if I log in to find half my items gone, seeing as I've already completed most of the unlock acheivements. I have no problem with Valve rolling this out, but they'd better do it fairly.
