About the Heroes thing:

HoMM I: Best graphics (purple polka-dot dragons = win)
HoMM II: Best music and sound (vampire says BLAH!)
HoMM III: Best strategic gameplay (rescource management actually matters for the first time in the series)
HoMM IV: There is no HoMM IV.
HoMM V: Best tactical combat (the creature abilities are just brilliant)

The entire HoMM series: awesome, except for part IV, which did not happen.

Sammy, how can you SAY that? Heroes 2 was MUCH better than 3... Though 3 beat 4 hands down.

Savolne, Chibi-Robo is discontinued and almost impossible to find... Trust me, I've been looking since the day I bought my DS.
Im gonna be honest and say i am a little biased since 3 was my "first love" when it comes to games and i havent played the older titles. But never the less it is a briliant title worth playing.

Elite Beat Agents.

If you own a DS and have not played Elite Beat Agents, your life is a pathetic, meaningless void. Trust me on this. When you play EBA, the scales will fall from your eyes and you will see the FUNK.
Agents are... GO!!! I love that game. I couldn't believe it when it actually got my heart racing for the last song in the game. From a DS game, thats pretty awesome. Especially considering how cheesy it is!

EDIT: Btw Razzle, your avatar is pure win. Well done.

I'm going to have to second Sins of a Solar Empire here; it's excellent if you like either real-time or turn based strategy games. This may sound impossible, but SoaSE manages it somehow: although the game takes place in real-time, there's a definite turn-based feel. This is probably because the ships move fairly realistically (read: slowly) inside gravity wells, but there you are. Unfortunately, there's no demo at the moment, but if you do buy the game I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised.

A new game I'll recommend, though, is Dwarf Fortress. It is essentially the result of an unholy union between Nethack and Dungeon Keeper. You control a group of seven dwarfs as they dig themselves a new home, grow crops, handle immigrants and invaders, and eventually all die in a gigantic magma catastrophe that burns everything - or accidentally flood the entire fort, or all get killed by a legendary swordsman going berserk over his tattered clothing, or some similar horror. It's great fun, though the learning curve is a bit steep.

Oooh, Mischief Makers! I remember playing that game forever ago, it was great... though I never did finish getting all those gold gems. Thanks to Youtube, however, I've found the full ending! With horrible voice-overs by the players! I don't know why they bothered.

Advent Rising

It had an awesome story, and great weapons. It really had this FPS/Action/Adventure kind of feel to it. You even had telekinetic powers that you could level to where you didn't even have to use guns anymore. I think it really pushed the bar on original games and graphics for its time.

What is it with you and spamming retarded pictures? You're making us look stupid.
Coming from a guy who posts

in every thread.

I think everyone needs to go download and play "Cave Story." Best of all? It's free, and awesome.

That and Magic Carpet. Flight sim + magic carpet riders + wizards + castle building + 40 foot tall monsters = ridiculous fun. Where is a rabid fan base remaking a game when you need it?
There are a couple of remakes going on. Google "magic carpet remake" and there's a 3rd Realms forum post on it, and I've come across at least 1 other remake floating about. They all seem to be in alpha builds though :(

I second Heroes V, but I do have a soft spot for it since I helped build the web promo version [http://www.heroesmini.com].

Dwarf Fortress, previously recommended, is also a great choice.

I would like to suggest my current 'casual' game of the moment, AudioSurf. Grab the demo on Steam, try it out - if you like music and have an MP3 collection, it's great fun.

Blade of Darkness - (i found this at a pawn shop/cash converters for 4 bucks.) One of the goriest games i've ever played! combat system is a variety of inputing different key combinations to do some crazy skills while leveling. 4 characters all with different starting points. The story is kinda hard to follow but it makes up for this with the environment, climatic moments and different weapons. (Arrows stick out of enemies which you can pick out of them.)

Rune - (not nearly as good as blade of darkness)another limb chopping, gibb throwing Third Person Shooter. Based on Vikings, going to hell and back, and defending your civilization. You can pick up runes that help you do special moves depending on the weapon you're carrying. (there's a multiplayer/coop mod that makes this game worthwhile!)

"Scavengers, Trespassers, Adventurers, Loners, Killers, Explorers and Robbers"
STALKER - FPS also somewhat a RPG factoring quests and a few factions you can join. My favorite part is how atmosphere is erie and realistic. The first few hours blow since you have to kill through hundreds of bandit punks with a sawed off shotgun and handgun bullets. After that you get some mighty powerful guns, fight with teammates, and feel part of the world. Guns lose durability, armor, dif. ammo, the works. makes me feel like i'm really sneaking around in an abandond town / insane asylum = Chernobyl.

MOHAA - most fun multiplayer game to date. the one we always result to playing at LAN parties. the one that started WWII games for many. I challenge anyone to a 1on1.

Those are just a few of my favorites :).

Contra 4, easily the most criminally underplayed game on the DS. Hardcore gaming on the DS, plus it comes with Contra (NES) and Super Contra.

Razzle, PLEASE not the Beat Agents... I don't know what it is about that game... Is it the catchy music, the tacky Village People style agents, or the fact I'm a sucker for DDR, but that game... That damn game... HOW CAN SOMETHING SO INTENTIONALLY ATROCIOUS BE SO FUN?!
That's not the worst of it, either! The worst is how they shamelessly, SHAMELESSLY haul out the most manipulative bullshit tear-jerker cliches and somehow make you actually CARE. I swear, those god damned bastards made me get choked up listening to fucking Chicago! ARGH!

Damn, now I have to go and play that level again.
