Trying to stay on topic. I like Tera because I can dodge, and block with some classes, attacks and so can the enemy. I play a healer and it is very fun to be able to DPS and heal my party. Having to run around because the boss charges you suddenly is cool. I really enjoyed that.

I have not played GW2, didn't make the Beta, but from what I have seen I don't think I will like it. I am a bit shallow and like nice graphics in my video games. Tera seems to have the better of the two. I will however, give GW2 a go regardless. I am not going to pre-judge GW2 based on art style, characters selection, or w/e.

Guys I was hoping to get more out of this thread for reasons to play GW2 but all i got was Tera bashing for have a stupid race. Move on please interested to see what people choose and why you want to play not why NOT.

I prefer Guild Wars 2 they have set the bar higher for MMOs and something that all MMOs now have to meet or people might see them as lesser in quality. I was in the beta and I have to tell you, I don't think anything could come close to what it's offering lol

If Tera has pedophilia, then WoW has genocide and TOR has slavery.

What are you trying to say here? That this game will make people more liable to go and have sex with little children? Because I don't think any children were harmed during the making of this game. What exactly could your problem be? Oh no, someone is watching virtual, computer-generated child sexuality. Now they're probably going to jerk off! How dare someone masturbate to things I don't also like.

The only excuse I can find for not tolerating this is because it enables more child pornography, and that's just like saying videogames make people into killers.
Maybe it just makes us feel uncomfortable, in the sense that if I played it I would never want anybody I know to find out that I played it. Isn't that a pretty valid reason to not buy a game?

the character models in tera do bother me, but im not talking about the elin. they are cute little chibi girls. watch anime and aside from robots what you will probably see most is underage girls in scantily clad outfits, and often with a lot of panty shots. what bothers me are the other female models. im used to females in fantasy games looking very under dressed, but tera takes it to a new level that i dont like.

all that said, tera has amazingly fun combat and guild wars 2 doesnt excite me at all. nothing about the gamelay or questing seems that interesting to me and i dont really like pvp which, obviously, is a big part of guild wars 2. i probably wont buy either game but if i had to pick, id go with tera online

Ah well, in that case : The dodge / block is just as much a part of GW2's combat as Tera's. You definitely need to keep on the move from a lot of enemies, and even in the low-leveled areas, going toe-to-toe like you do in other MMOs won't work in GW2 either.
The DPS + Heal is an optional part of most classes, but most of the healing is done by each person; everyone gets a self-heal skill, but you can aid others. In general though, the focus is on damage mitigation instead of simply healing up afterwards.
From what I've seen, both games are extraordinarily pretty. I will agree that graphically Tera has the advantage here, but I prefer the GW2 design aesthetics - this is a personal preference though.

The reasons I'm interested in GW2 over Tera has nothing to do with any races.
The main reason is the world itself. You get a personal, branching storyline that depends on your race and starting choices (eg, for human, you can start as a Noble, a Commoner, or a Street Rat) that will roughly guide you through some parts of the game world, but most of the "quests" come in the form of dynamic events that crop up and make the world feel like a real entity in it's own right. These events are also co-operative; for what may be the first time in an MMO, I'm actually glad to see random people running around in the world, rather than actively avoiding them. On the other hand, Tera's quests keep the same "Kill X of monster Y" that I was sick of a long time ago, which does little to foster community.
There's a lot of other reasons, but this post is already dragging on way too much already, and I get the feeling I need to stop with the typing now :)

To recap this issue, for anyone that got lost:

Tera is a prostitution simulator. With a Korean grind minigame.

GW2 is being balanced and developed with competitive play in mind.

GW2 is the better game, just saying.

Yeah you're getting a little over excited, guy. There isn't anything legally questionable about Tera. It's just sleazy and creepy. It's not about "not tolerating" it, or trying to get it banned, or something. I'm just making fun of it, the same way you might make fun of, say, Nickelback. I will say that TIL Tera fans are incredibly defensive, though.

The character designs in Tera make me want to puke so GW 2 wins by default even if I wasn?t already a GW fan.
Yes that?s a shallow reason to not like a game but it would be annoying me constantly as I try to play it.
Although this is not a sexism issue, the guys seem to also be in stupid over sexualised armour. The ones that look like kids are a little creep though, I?ll give you that.

You certainly seemed like you were condemning it as opposed to just making fun, as evidenced by your repeated references to pedophilia. Sorry if I misunderstood your tone.

And no, I haven't even played Tera. I'm still a bit jaded by that thread about watching child porn though.
Well I'm condemnatory to the extent that I think the art style, character design and general marketing push of the game is puerile and merits extraordinary levels of ridicule. I'm not condemnatory to the extent that I think the game is wicked, or that the people playing it are actual pederasts. I'm not going to apologize for making fun of them for enjoying something so stupid, though, in the same way I would bug a friend who enjoyed listening to Rebecca Black.

It's a cultural thing though. Asian games tend to be a lot on the skimpy clothing side, for females at least. Target audience and all that, kind of how the west apparently has a stiffy for super-gritty wartime macho fantasies.
Guild Wars 2 has pretty skimpy clothing, but it's inside the range where you shrug and say "Well, it is a fantasy game I suppose". I'm not going to go on a jihad about proper representation of armor or about objectification in games because that's going to end up casting a pretty wide net. Tera just goes past the point of "Woo woo, sexy" and into the realm of the back alley porn store with the curiously greasy feeling door handle.

I've played both games' beta.

I liked both games' beta, but I did get bored near the end of TERA's beta, which did not happen near the end of GW2's beta.

-Both have innovative combat for an MMO, but GW2's is still more fluid than TERA's.
-They both have visually stunning graphics and aesthetics, albeit one being obviously more Korean styled (TERA), and the other appearing more western (GW2).
-TERA's questing system was boring as shit; "kill 10 boars", "collect 5 boar tusks", etc.. GW2 doesn't have traditional quests, but gets you involved with the story of each location extremely easily by just entering certain areas.
-Partying up in TERA is still the same; "LFG", "GLF Healer, DPS", etc.. In GW2 literally the only time I had to join a party was to enter a dungeon, or make it easier for someone to find me on the map. Otherwise I'd be completing Skill challenges and Events with other people without having to forcefully team up.
-In TERA whoever gets the first hit on a mob and deals sufficient damage gets the loot/kill/exp. In GW2, as long as you contribute 10% in bringing down a mob you get rewarded with loot/kill/exp.
-For TERA you pay full retail price and then still 15? a month, while for GW2 you only pay the full retail price. There will be free updates and events in GW2, like in GW1, and just like in GW1 the new campaigns will be paid standalone.

If you want to play a good MMORPG, you can play both. If you want to play a good game, you'll want to play GW2.

P.S.: Don't get me started on Elins and the scanty armour.

EDIT: I forgot to add that GW2 has a deep and rich personal story and great character customization, while TERA has a more complex character customization but a story worth jack shit.

The worst you get is the typical fan service (ie panty / swimsuit shots) in Tera. That's pretty damn far from porn. Whatever, I get rational informed opinions aren't your thing.

Personal attacks again Byers? Didn't we derail the thread enough on page 1 and 2? We've already established that you love Tera and hate me. I don't really think covering this well worn territory again is in anyone's best interests.

ArenaNet is based in Washington, GW2 is definitely tailored for western audiences.
Fair enough, but it does have a bit of an Asian influence in the character design and outfits, most particularly humans and casters.

I don't love Tera or hate you, Guppy. You're jumping to conclusions and making irrational uninformed statements. I'm calling you on it. It's nothing personal at all.

Well, as the point at which "fan service" crosses the line into "sleaze" is 100% subjective, calling my OPINION on where that line is "irrational and uninformed" is, in actuality, a personal attack. You're welcome to continue doing so if that sort of thing floats your boat, but you should probably take it to private messages, yeah?
