The problem with GW2 is that cos there is no endgame as such, its just scaling your stats down and doing the leveling content again, I suspect you have to play it extremely casually to avoid the dynamic events feeling samey. And once you're bored of dynamic events, that's it, your done with the game cos there are only 7 dungeons in the entire game. (Explorable mode does not count as a separate dungeon.)
So, despite offering different maps, different layouts, different assets, different challenges, and different storylines, they don't count as "different"? Wat.

Furthermore, there is an "Endgame" as we've come to know them. However, on top of that End Game, you can also go and see what the rest of the world has to offer that you "missed" climbing to the top.

World of Warcraft would have been a LOT better if I could have "Gone back" with my Level 85 Worgen Warrior and explored and played in the rest of the world, the stuff I failed to do (Such as all of Kalimdor, and everywhere in Outland that isn't Nagrand or Hellfire Peninsula)... and then do some of the Classic raids of Yesteryear, such as Molten Core and Upper Blackrock Spire. As it was, I scurried to avoid overleveling through Stranglethorn.

And "Random Events will become samey" is less likely to happen (And will have less severe repercussions) than being out of Unique Quests and having nothing left to do but grind dailies waiting for the next content patch.

So the pre-pubescent cat girls have sex with beavers and dogs and bunny people?

[sub]what in the actual fuck...[/sub]
No, no they do not. They don't have sex at all. They may form strong bonds with each other, but it's not sexual, and probably reproduce by spontaneous generation and maybe magic dust.

GW2 meanwhile, I was not wowed with the 2 days i played, the lag, bugs and stuttering affected my enjoyment and while I know it will probably be fixed, I have have to use it to judge it now. In addition it seemed too easy to suddenly die and then trying to figure out how to win at that mini game type thing was horrible, These are problem that could of been alleviated if there was anything to explain game mechanics, I like figuring out things for myself, like skillchains in FFXI, but I don't like getting blindsided by mandatory things that shouldn't be a secret. Other then that my only gripe is that combat lacked weight.

Note that's not the same as lacking complexity, but i never felt like what i was doing was actually affecting the monsters, they barely reacted when I used a big attack that wiped out half their health and my auto-attack gave me the impression I was shooting gumballs at them with a slingshot rather than rapidly shooting them with a gun. I'm not complaining about the damage or anything mechanical, but rather something cosmetic that kept me from connecting with the game itself. I would use my blowtorch skill and wouldn't be sure if I hit the enemy or completely missed and wasn't sure if it mattered and thats when I started feeling like I was wasting time.

I came away from GW2 beta weekend with a negative impression but then I think about everything else it has and I really want to play it, I just hope my issues are cleaned up at launch and aren't considered finished.
All I can say is Beta is Beta, this is a true Beta for the game that's why you're playing to break the game and find bugs, make suggestions if things weren't clear, to be honest you should have gotten on the Beta forums and put up suggestions if you thought a tutorial was lacking. I know a lot of MMOs treat their Beta events like a free trial before launch but as I said this is a real Traditional Beta and yes there will be lag and server problems, next Beta Weekend Event will probably be more streamlined (server wise), they learned a tonne from this last one. You should hang in there and take part in the next one and if there are problems jump on the forums they have to leave a suggestion for them, they will take it in if enough people jump behind it. :)

I like my porn and my games to be mutually exclusive experiences. Watching models in bathing suits passionately slapping each other is all well and good, but it shouldn't be part of an epic fantasy tale.

Yeah, some of the more human races err a bit on the overly sexualized/pretty. But that tends to be the exception in GW2- it's the rule in TERA.

I wish the Charr would have more outfits that went for sexualized and Pretty in GW2.

On the subject of paedophilia as the one negative to TERAs many positives, I'd like to point to the fable of Jones the Sheepshagger:

Jones the Sheepshagger is sitting in the corner of the pub, crying into his beer and bemoaning his fate. “Did you see that library in the town square?” he asks a passing stranger. “I built that, with my own hands. But do they call me Jones the Book? They do not.

“And that hospital on the hill? When I sold my business, I donated that out of the kindness of my heart. Half of my profits it took. But do they call me Jones the Doc? They do not.

“Look at the school, the finest educational establishment in all Wales. It was nothing before I came here. A patch of land. I paid for it all. But do they call me Jones the teacher? They do not.

“I fuck one sheep . . .”

GW2 has overhauled everything in MMOs.
Well, yes and no. They've tweaked enough that it feels relatively "fresh" and different, but they've not re-invented the wheel here. If EQ was version 1.0, and WoW and it's army of cheerful imitations was version 1.2, this is version 1.5 or 1.6, not version 2.0.
This, finally someone gets it.

OT: GW2 by virtue of not trying to win me into buying it with my penis. (Which isn't working at all, actually its making me feel a bit...uncomfortable)

Everyone loves to tell that story when they talk about something's good qualities being overlooked. But be honest- if you knew Jones the Sheepshagger (alternatively Charles the Goatfucker, James the Sheepshanker and a few other things...) you'd be calling him a Sheepshagger and giving him dirty looks with everyone else.

Why? HE FUCKED A SHEEP. That just ain't right.

I have TERA because I was intrigued by the combat system, but I'm quickly realizing it's shit. Their attempt to make it "combat-action!!!" actually slows the combat down compared to other MMOs. They added the requirement to aim but for some ungodly reason decided attacks should only be used while standing still or a very casual walk. Granted, this is from my early experience, but from what I've heard it doesn't get a whole lot better the higher up you get.

Thanks for repeating what i addressed in the post, I said its not final, that everything was a work in progress but i have to judge it on what they gave me at the time. Asking people to base information off of something that may possibly exist in the future is unrealistic and is what raises expectations too high, which results in the population crash like what SWtor experienced when the "future content" wasn't there. Lets keep this topic on whats in the games rather then what we want in the game.

I haven't seen anything on Guild Wars 2, if I'm honest. Also, my only MMO experience was playing World of Warcraft on and off for two months in eighth grade. So don't expect some expert opinion from me.

I currently use a Mac, so neither of these games are options for me, but TERA looks really fun, because I really like action-RPGs. I'll probably be picking it up when I have a PC.

Honestly, if I were you I'd try them both. Maybe you could hop on one of your friend's TERA accounts and give yourself a demo. Since you seem inclined to do so already, pick up GW2 when it releases, and due to the lack of a subscription fee, you won't feel like you should play it however often to get your money's worth out of the game, in the event you don't enjoy it as much as you're hoping to.

I'm planning to play both. It looks like I'll have more fun exploring GW2, but more fun actually killing things in Tera. But then I'm a lifelong tank, and playing a Lancer in Tera is like actually fucking tanking things. I love it so much.

It's not going to be for everyone... it feels very Korean, and the obvious character design choices won't sit well with some people. Maybe my years of FFXI left me more receptive to eastern styles, because basically nothing in it fazes me, and I just love the monster designs.

Only played GW2 so I have to biasedly go with GW2. It also has the advantage of being a sequel to GW1 an MMO I LOVED.

If I played TERA, it would be out of shallow need to entertain myself over the Casiancs or how ever they're spelt. The living sex dolls.

If you can't find hentai on the internets then Tera is the game for you, but you will be sick and tired of grinding 30 minutes in, they do nothing to mask the "collect X number of Y".

GW2 as an all around package is the far better game, and there will be plenty of content to chew on, there was also never a shortage of updates with GW.
People just spev random ignorant remarks when hearing F2P, this game is not that, you do pay for the game/subscription when you first purchase, you just aren't hustled on time to drag you into the next month for the next payment.

Tera doesn't have a playable race of 8-10ft tall Cat-People with horns, so GW2 wins for me.
I love Charr, they're just so cool.

*Arenanet design meeting*
It's like "What could we possibly do to make cats more awesome?"
"Give them magic, armour and weapons?"
"Hmm, no we need something else..."
"Horns!"
"That's great Barry! Have a raise!"

I have played neither.

Tera has too many scantily clad prepubescent girls.

GW 2, doesn't.

GW 2 wins.
There ya' go.

Alright, to get to the core.

Tera has a shitty combat system that is basically WoW + a dodge button.

Guild Wars 2 has its dodge mechanic as a core gameplay and is much more fluid.

GW2 wins.

i haven't play either and i don't want to risk the money to buy either of them so i hope a trial for them comes out soon
Off the Bat Guild Wars 2 is cheaper then Tera because it has only a one time purchase thing at 60$, Tera will cost you more at about 15$ a month plus the box itself, so yes, if you get 60$, buy Guild Wars 2.

I'm not getting Tera, the combat had me slightly interested but the routine quest structure is a big problem and leaving control of class trainers, travel routes and gold sinks to the hubris of the biggest guilds is an absolute deal breaker.

Everything about Guild Wars 2 on the other hand sounds amazing, even the lack of a monthly fee is something I'd pay money for. Pay monthly MMOs are so packed with filler they hold no interest to me at all. If Guild Wars 2 doesn't try and bully me into playing awful content over and over again in order that I can keep paying a monthly fee then that could be the best thing about it.

Tera's combat from what I've heard relies on movement and preemptive healing (blocking and dodging.) GW2 does the same thing, but with no trinity and self sufficient professions.

Tera has a $15(month)-$9(year) (prices shown by monthly cost) subscription fee on top of $40 game. So the game +3 months (I'm assuming are free) is $40. GW2 is $60. Every month after makes Tera cost closer to $12-$9 dollars. So 1 year +3 free months cost minimum $147-$159. GW2 for box and expansion (assuming within a year) $120.

Also, better quests/events in GW2 so that's where my money's going.

(Scantly-clad loli race is a turn off.)
most MMOs only give the first 30 days free (not sure if this is the case here), so more like $70 for the first 3 months.

for me, GW2 is screaming out for me to buy it. it seems to be that they realised what needed fixing in the MMO genre, and just did it.
questing a bit of a grind? no problem, we'll give you better quests other than kill x 10 times. we'll also make it so you can complete the same quest in different ways
reached a high level before you finish an area? well, how about we make you scale to the area, so you always feel challenged in the gameplay
combat just pressing 11223542234211? we'll give you a more dynamic combat system with dodging aswell
people stealing your kills? no problem, loot and XP is now shared, promoting cooperation
want endgame PvP without grinding for weeks to get there? we'll boost you up to endgame level for PvP, so no more grinding for you!
don't want to feel obliged to play a lot because it costs you each month? too bad... ha, just kidding, you pay for the game, then that is it. you are free to buy cosmetic items and our expansion packs when they are released, otherwise, enjoy our game

i mean these are just a few examples of why i left MMOs, and why GW2 will welcome me back with open arms. i cannot fucking wait

Not sure about GW2, I may have a look at it when it's been released.

As for TERA. It actully looks kinda fun, the combat doesn't seem too bad and the visuals are nice. I only watched one gameplay video but the skybox was beautiful.
I am not part of the crowd that thinks the Elin are pedo bait so I could care less about them, they actully look kinda cute.
Im also fine with the other characters so I would like to play it.

However I am completely thrown off by the subscription fee. If they ever get rid of that and make it F2P or only charge me once to buy it then I will give it a go but i'll hold off untill something like that happens.

Shit.

Come on people. Every time Tera is brought up, people will start endless discussions about that whole Elin nonsense. Stop it. Just... stop it, please?

OT: Guild Wars 2 is far more interesting to me. Sure, Tera looks neat, but subscription fees are evil. I've also already pre-purchased the collector's edition for GW2.

I've had the chance to play a bit of GW2 at a friend's place last beta weekend, since my copy wasn't here yet. I can say I love it, a lot. It has its flaws, but what's there, is great.

Sadly, I haven't had the chance to play Tera yet, because they don't offer free trials, and I don't intend to just buy the game and pay for a sub.
They should not even be there to begin with then. I was curious and took a look at the tera races from their main page and found this little gem when I looked at Elin

http://tera.enmasse.com/game-guide/races/elin

To even look at that kind of makes my stomach squirm, as it was way worse then I expected. It basically looks like a 5 year old girl with cat ears ... It's quite disturbing, and if that is the first impression they want of the race to be I'll pass because I just don't want to ever have to be subject to that while spending free time. And thats a shame too, because the monsters do look quite good.

I don't see how using the argument that they probably only make up 10% of the tera population as an excuse, they should not even look like that to begin with. The only issue I have with trying the game is only that race and that's their problem not mine as they are the ones who created the problem to begin with.
