'Clip'

It's a MAGAZINE goddammit! Call it a 'mag' if 'magazine' is too long, but clip is INCORRECT.

Movies do this also...
Unless it's a WWII game and you're using a bolt-action rifle or an M1 Garand...then "clip" is correct. :)

Granted, but 99% of the time that's NOT what they're talking about.

I'm gonna go ahead and add in 'Sick.' As in, 'that was a sick (good) shot!'
It makes no sense, since when was being sick, throwing up, or generally feeling like boiled turd a good thing? Does that mean a healthy shot isn't good? I just don't understand it.

Also 'FML' - (Fuck My Life) for being the most emo, pointless term ever. I had seen it thrown around a couple times, until I realised what it meant. I just wanted to slap the person who typed it.

I think I'll save myself the time it would take to list them and go with "All terms in gaming."

I long for the day where it is mandatory for all players to speak like posh Victorian Englishmen/women.
I wholeheartly support this measure.

Rape... i hate when my friends are describing how they were playing Call of Duty by saying that they raped the other team... Really guys? You bent them over in the middle of the match and raped them? That must've been uncomfortable for both parties involved.

For me, it's the word "Epic". It's become such a cliche, the word epic is a way of saying something is amazing, with everybody using it to describe something mildly entertaining, the meaning of the word has been used to death.
Usually to describe THE deaths.

Yea, that is found in more than just games, but rather a common misnomer in these times.

noob - the term is thrown around so callously that it's just beyond ridiculous. Oh the game just came out today? And you haven't been playing since 12:01 am when I got my copy and said, "Well, I don't have a job, I'm going to go be the only person online playing this game for the next 6 hours." Good for you, I'm a noob, now kiss my ass.
So it is apparently a crime to be of anything other than a perfect equal, when you're better, you're a haxcksor, when you're worse, you're an OMG=n00b. Such a stupid online community. These terms are only used by obsessive perfectionists, they never report the hacking, they're just justifying their loss.

I dunno, I say raped in that context, just because it fits in a figurative sense. It's annoying when someone says it every second though. Can't you think of another word to use? Annihilated sounds way cooler. So does decimated.

jrpg i hate that term whatever happened to it just being called an rpg
That one kinda fits, though. JRPGs and other...well, I guess I'll just say "western" RPGs don't share that much in common besides having stat and leveling systems and hours of gameplay. They follow different conventions, especially the idea of usable characters in relation to the story (JRPGs almost always have set characters, RPGs usually encourage character creation).

Aside from the general internet abbreviations, I'd have to say, as someone who's hung out on an MMO forum way too much...I hate the term "nerf." Mostly because its connotation is so different from its meaning.

If anything, anything is reduced in effectiveness, typically for the sake of game balance, it's a nerf. And there will always be people whinging about it like you just kicked their dog.

I die a little inside every time somebody shortens Xbox Live Arcade to XBLA. Or worse, if thay actually SAY XBLA. (pronounced ecksbluh)I know that it's convenient but seriously, it looks stupid and sounds even stupider.

"noob", "newb", etc.

It justs sounds so ungraceful. It doesn't roll off the tongue like it should. "lol", too.

And I still don't know what "1337" means.

I think the thing that bugs me the most about playing online games in general is the number of people who use chat speak or "leet" speak as they call it. The other big one is people calling anything or anybody who is different or they don't like gay or "gey" it just really gets on my nerves.

Oh yeah and people saying /thread at the end of there posts. It just seems really stuck up and arrogant beyond making the whole post seem less intelligent.

"Bio Break". Everytime I hear it, I assume they are working on their science project. Just say you are dropping a chalupa and be done with it ...
