I generally can tolerate bad voice acting, but Wakka in Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy X-2 was too much to handle. That definitely had me searching for UNDUBS. What was worse was Infinite Undiscovery which just plain has no voice acting in a lot of cases, and it strikes me that they just didnt voice as many lines for the English version.

The only ones that really come to mind are the first two house of the dead games.
But that's part of what makes them so awesome. It adds to their crappy B-movie charm/appeal. It's especially good in Typing of the Dead, where the entire premise is just so silly that all the other stuff like the voice acting just works for some reason.

While there have definitely been games with worse voice acting, FFX is way up at the top of the list for me, because it was one of the worst compared to expectations and budget. There were a few characters who were tolerable, but a good portion of the main cast was just painful to listen to. You couldn't even button-mash through the dialog, either. It had a minimum timer of a second or two before it'd let you skip through stuff, so even if you'd finished reading it, you still had to put up with the terrible, terrible voices grating on your ears for a bit longer.

I really dislike the voice acting of Mass Effect's female Shepard. She almost sounds male.
Really? That's Jennifer Hale [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jennifer_Hale], a (voice) actress that has been heard by almost every gamer. Jennifer Mui, Femshep, Bastila Shan, and plenty, PLENTY more.
Aye I know who it is. But she just sounds so.. off in Mass Effect
I've never heard that one. Funny thing, Kaidan is played by the guy who played Carth in KoTOR.
ill have to back this one up, i love all of jeniffer hale's work, except for femshep, i can't stand playing femshep with audio.

and weird thing is i really liked when he did carth's voice..but kaidan was a piece of crap that i was happy to let die.

So bad, I laugh every time I hear them.

I really didn't care for Male Shep. He sounded like a zombie who forgot he couldn't talk.
The Megaman one is my favorite where he messes up the line and almost calls Megaman something else, but they actually kept the take and put it in the final product...

Oblivion. Seriously, what was the deal with those beggars?
I still can't get over the fact that each of them has 2 voices that swap randomly depending on what you ask them.

It is hi-larious.

Same here. Even though it's Jennifer Hale, I still don't understand why people say to choose her over male Shep. She just sounds... off.
I prefer Jennifer Hale beacause male Shepard sounds like a total army tool. 'Sir, yes sir!' Hale sounds like someone who has her own mind, even if she is military.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the original RESIDENT EVIL. Kinda shows how lenient people used to be about voice acting.

Heh, lot of hate for male Shepard here. I can understand, but hell I prefer him just because I can relate to a male character a bit easier.

Also Secret Files: Tunguska is a pretty good game but has some laughable voice acting in places. Couldn't find an appropriate video though.
Oh dear god, some conversations in the game made me cringe... Actually, Nina's voice actress was pretty bad to begin with; her voice was so high and winy. Sounded like someone was scraping metal with a fork.

I've actually heard this complaint a lot and I didn't understand it at first, until I noticed something.

How old are you? Under 20, I'm guessing. It's a trend that I get a little annoyed with. It seems like anyone under twenty wants all females in video games to sound like they're in their teens. Women's voices change a lot in their twenties. Take a 16 year old girl and a 26 year old and you'd probably be able to tell which is which just by their voice. Shepard isn't in her(his) teens. (S)he a fairly high ranked officer. (S)he's at least 25.

You can't have a Hot nubile Shepard.

It annoys me that people can stomach Meer's voice-acting (or lack thereof) but whine because Hale sounds like a woman and not a little girl.

It was just awful. But it is quite amazing, like you said, how lenient people were. Watching that video too, some of those older games are so...relaxed in their acting!
I think it was probably more due to the fact that gamers marvelled over the fact that they no longer had to read what characters were saying, but instead just listen. Saves a lot of energy and its SOOO COOL!

Sherlock Holmes versus Jack the Ripper. It has about four actors, with one guy doing at least four variations of the same voice. It's horrendous.
