I thought I remember reading that they didn't want their peers to know they were working on games because they were thought to be a lesser work but maybe I was wrong. Maybe I got it mixed up with something Mark Hammil saidForgottenPr0digy said:They used their real names for remake of MGS1 and every other MGS game. So I guess your answer is wrong. I think because voice actor contract issues or something to do with SAG contracts on video games back then.Applejack said:Shippy you have a point about the industries. I think I remember the voice actors in Metal Gear Solid went under fake names in the credits to avoid the 'embarrassment' of working on a game. Oh things have changed but the Japanese are still years ahead and good actors are getting more expensive
Yeah their voices would change from like normal old guy voice to squeaky old guy voice.Frozen Donkey Wheel2 said:Oblivion. Seriously, what was the deal with those beggars?
You heard right. I tore my ears off.TheZapper said:Just Cause 2.
All the reviews spoke of 'hilarious so-bad-its-good' voice acting, but all I heard was cringeworthy shit.
I second that. Also Every japanesse anime except One Piece, I just can't stand the voices AHHHH!!! SO HIGH PITCH!!!Thedayrecker said:Brothers in Arms series. The games are so fun (excluding Hell's Highway, which is moderatly fun), but the voice acting sucks!
This. Took the words right out of my mouth.TheZapper said:Just Cause 2.

Yeah i agree. I'd much prefer to watch subtitled anime than dubbed anime. Also in foreign movies some cultures have different affectations than your own so dubbing just doesnt work or give the right feel.Shippy said:I wonder if part of the problem is that the english speaking world doesn't have quite the same voice acting industry as... well as japan.
that isn't to say that there are no good english/american voice actors you just have to watch shows like futurama and the simpsons to see great voice acting it's just that there are two problems.
Firstly games and dubbed shows often pick poor voice actors or people who aren't voice actors... now sometimes it works with named actors fallout 3's opening was in my opinion lifted to another level by Liam Neeson's presence but more often than not it appears to be people who are just mediocre and possibly don't have much experience in working with just audio.
secondly there is often a huge cultural disconnect, this really only applies to to dubbed anime and imported games but can apply to in game characters who are supposedly foreign. the problem is these are characters that have a very distinctive personality and usually a very particular voice associated with it one that is rarely matched in dubbing.
and there is one final problem for me
dubbing is in my opinion often unnecessary, yes in some cases like shows/games for young children it's probably the best option but most of the time these are mature titles and in the same way i don't think films need dubbing i don't think games or animation needs dubbing.
now if the dubbing was an optional extra like in DVDs where you have the option to have the dub or the original audio with subtitles i think games should take note and offer the same it would save people being forced to listen to something they might find objectionable
I remember that game. I found his voice terrible then and still do. Not only was it horrible, but it just didn't fit. When I looked at the cover, I expected him to have a less raspy hero's voice, not...whatever that is.Au Naturel. said:I couldn't find anything when I searched for this, so I'll make my own.
I was playing Musashi for the PS2 and realized it had some of the worst voice acting I have ever heard. And by worst I mean Musashi, the main character. His voice is so incredibly terrible! He has a "surfer dude" voice that just makes him sound very stupid, no matter what he says. It is a very fun game, but Musashi's voice actor just makes me laugh whenever he speaks.
What are some terrible voice acting decisions that you have experienced?
