I really dislike the voice acting of Mass Effect's female Shepard. She almost sounds male.
I actually thought she had a forceful, sexy voice.

Slightly more OT and slightly less fantasy: My vote goes to...
YOU, the MASTER OF UNLOCKING
etc.

I'm sure someone has said this already but the first resident evil game. "stop! Don't Open! that door!" I will never forget the mass amounts of terrible voice acting in that game. it's also one of the reasons I absolutely loved it as well.

The worst voice acting I have ever heard, in any medium, is in the first Harry Potter game for the PlayStation. Specifically, the Swedish dub. I haven't heard any other version. It is laughable at best, and at worst will make you shut the game off to save the actors' pride.

The worst voice acting I've heard in English was in Typing of the Dead, though I suspect this was intentional.

Oblivion. God, couldn't be more wackier. Except for Cpt. Picard. I swear to god, that man has talent. Saw him playing as a refined homosexual, for a homophobe like me, I liked him. He has class and style.
I think your forgetting someone...

OT: The original Resident Evil. You were almost a Jill sandwich, after all.

Ashton Anchors from the Star Ocean second story remake on psp. He sounded so cool on the ps1 version why they couldn't keep his old voice is a mystery.

Pink haired girl in Final Fantasy 13 (forget her name bc I quit after 15 hrs)

Also anyone in Ninety Nine Nights.

Same here. Even though it's Jennifer Hale, I still don't understand why people say to choose her over male Shep. She just sounds... off.
I also concur. Now, granted, I have yet to play as FemShep in the first game, but still...
She shows no emotion. Like, at all. Almost every single line is delivered in an incredibly boring monotone. That, combined with her decidedly non-feminine voice, makes her sound like a tenth grade boy in a high school drama class, who really, really doesn't want to be saying his lines.
Until just now, I didn't get why everyone thought Hale was actually good in that game. However, after reading other posts, I see that she is a bit of a fixture in the videogame voice acting scene. Maybe everyone is just blinded by her previous work; conditioned to think she is a good actress because of it? I don't know. But yeah, Mark Meer isn't great, but he at least manages to really "sell" his lines.

I prefer man-shep.
...

And that sounded pretty gay.

I wonder if part of the problem is that the english speaking world doesn't have quite the same voice acting industry as... well as japan.
that isn't to say that there are no good english/american voice actors you just have to watch shows like futurama and the simpsons to see great voice acting it's just that there are two problems.
Firstly games and dubbed shows often pick poor voice actors or people who aren't voice actors... now sometimes it works with named actors fallout 3's opening was in my opinion lifted to another level by Liam Neeson's presence but more often than not it appears to be people who are just mediocre and possibly don't have much experience in working with just audio.
secondly there is often a huge cultural disconnect, this really only applies to to dubbed anime and imported games but can apply to in game characters who are supposedly foreign. the problem is these are characters that have a very distinctive personality and usually a very particular voice associated with it one that is rarely matched in dubbing.

and there is one final problem for me

dubbing is in my opinion often unnecessary, yes in some cases like shows/games for young children it's probably the best option but most of the time these are mature titles and in the same way i don't think films need dubbing i don't think games or animation needs dubbing.
now if the dubbing was an optional extra like in DVDs where you have the option to have the dub or the original audio with subtitles i think games should take note and offer the same it would save people being forced to listen to something they might find objectionable

Shippy you have a point about the industries. I think I remember the voice actors in Metal Gear Solid went under fake names in the credits to avoid the 'embarrassment' of working on a game. Oh things have changed but the Japanese are still years ahead and good actors are getting more expensive

Oblivion's voice acting isn't terrible in the sense that it makes you want to punch babies, (granted, it's not the best voice acting I've ever heard) but it's so damn repetitive that it makes you want to kick an ovulating kitten.

Seriously Bethesda, I love your games and I will always buy them (not a fanboy!) no matter what reviews say, but you definitely need to hire more voice actors for the next Elder Scrolls.

No joke, it's retarded the number of times that you'll run into people saying the exact same thing in the exact same voice in Oblivion.
