My heart goes out to those affected by the vicious attacks in Norway. Is there any way for those unaffected by the disaster to help?

For anyone listening, how violent is the right-wing rhetoric in Norway? I ask because I cannot help draw a connection between the recent attempted assassination Senator Gabby Giffords and members of ther entourage and this, catestrophic event.
There is literally no violent political groups in Norway as far as I know, so the guy was a lone nutjob.

This is truly horrifying... My thoughts go out to the victims and their families. I hope they allow executions in Norway for this guy and anyone else involved deserve nothing less.

They deserve no less than to rot in jail for the rest of their (hopefully long) lives, so they will have time to think through what they have done. Death is too quick and painless.

84 dead?

Jesus fuck, what a slaughter.
600 kids in that camp and apparently most of them sustained some kind of injury, lots of them also tried to swim to the mainland so the toll will rise.

I hope the guy doesn't get the death penalty, no, I hope they make him suffer every single second of the rest of his life.

haha, wow, I just realized the massive blooper I did in the Original Post. He is an extreme RIGHT-oriented person. Not Left!
Right wing or left wing has little meaning when a person is insane. When a person kills someone because of a book they read, video game they played, speach they listen to, and etc is just asinine. Has more to do with the mentality of said person than anything else.

The maximum sentence in Norway is 21 years. I do not think that is enough.
After 21 years he'll get a new trial, and get another 21 years. This will continue his entire life.

He can be contained indefinately if he is considered a threat to the society, i think. Just 21 years at a time. At least that is how I think it works.

The problem with that is this person will never think what he did is wrong for being the fact he is insane... The defense im sure will try for the insanity case.

Holy crap. That's just horrific.
As someone who was in central london when the bombs went off, I know how much confusion, panic and fear things like this can lead to. I only hope you can deal with it better than we did.

I love how some people are already pointing to terrorists when all the news channels are saying that the norway authorities don't know what has caused the explosion yet. Reminds me of the first line of the muse song 'uprising'.
You got a point there, but anyone who uses wholesale slaughter of innocent people and fear as a weapon is a terrorist. That's what a terrorist is. They don't have to be Muslim, they don't have to be anything. If they are willing to use violence against innocent people (the gunman was shooting at kids for gods sake, and they found UXOs in the area of the shooting too) to get their point across is a terrorist. Not to mention a total fucking nutjob.

EDIT: Btw props for the Muse reference
Indeed, I accept your posit. If I may clarify, I posted that at a very early stage in the story when no one knew very much about what/who the cause was. However you are correct, this is now an act of terrorism considering the full details. And a fundamentalist christian at that, he is indeed a severely misguided soul. My stomach turned when I learned of the final death toll, humanity has some dark corners indeed.

As a Norwegian, I'm of course exhausted from following the news all night but also it warms the heart seeing this engagement from the international community. Now for the long haul ahead where all of us in Norway should pull together and get stronger from this, and comfort those who had dear ones taken from them.

No one on earth deserves this kind of horror. It does not matter what nationality , ethnicty, or religion you belong to. Never can acts of violence on innocent people be justified. I wish for all those people that have suffered to find peace and hope the death toll will not go up as high as I fear.

You do realize trying to squish everything out of him through sentences is typical of angry people wishing the same upon him but you have to realize that he is going to die anyway like any other normal human being and if people carry on acting this way we are no better than those that commit the crime and we are stuck in a continuous loop of throwing punches at one another and will never evolve past that.

As much as he deserves prison i know he is going to die and that's good enough for me to acknowledge his punishment.

He has an enormous debt to pay to our society, to our people. His humanity is not defence enough. There must be justice.

He's a "functional being" wich makes this all the worse. It means he can and will be held responsible for his actions. It is also quite clear that this is a politicly motivated crime, considering the monster has made statements as Stoltenberg-Jugend (Stoltenberg=Norways Prime Minister) and shouted political "warcries" when shooting the people at the AUF-meeting.

This guy defines what it means to hate freedom. As his target was innocent people wich only had a different political oppinion from him. As well as directly attacking the norwegian democracy.
