The list is endless for me, I'll play a game to death, then discard it like a used condom. I'm rather fickle. The main offenders are many of the above mentioned, and then some.

well i was surprised at how many recent games there were here, the sims? thats pretty damn new. im gonna go with x-wing fighter. it was the collecters edition. x-wing fighter was the prequel to the more famous tie fighter. anyway that was the game that i first loved (i think) it got me into flight games, which are still one of my fav genres today. i still have it today, in hopes that one day microsoft will make an OS that will run old programs from windows 95

another vote for OoT

I was in middle school a the time, and my parents had taken away my N64 and my StarCraft CDs as punishment for never doing any of my homework. One day when both my parents were out of the house, I searched the entire home until I found where they had hidden my N64. I hid it in my empty cello case, and beat the water temple with my bedroom door locked and the sound turned down to the lowest possible volume that I could hear. My mom eventually found it and then they took away all electronic-playing things from me for the rest of the school year, but I remember it was worth it just to play through that one temple.

That and StarCraft. At my peak, I was playing that game for about four hours a day.

Wing Commander III, Crusader:No Remorse, Privateer. If you can't tell, I'm a bit of an Origin junkie.

Ultima Online in the early days was a buggy mess, but it was heroin to me. It hurt so good. I got it as soon as I could and I played it for 2 months straight. I mean that almost litterally. It was the only time during school (grade 7, I think) that I actually chose a game over school work (my grades actually dropped) for reasons other than being lazy. I've played Counterstrike late into the night when I know I should be studying, but that type of thing was just general laziness. With UO it was like I desperately wanted to finish my work, but I couldn't leave the game. With those first few months of Ultima Online, I was driven to succeed in the game. It really was an obsession, it was all I thought about. I was like a Korean playing Starcraft.

Although it's not long-term, Portal was the only game that I actually sat down and just played with no regard to what time it was. (I finished it at around six in the morning, and never even realized the time.) It's really unlike me to do that.

I also became obsessed with speedrunning Super Mario Bros in high school on my GBA. I played that game an absurd amount. (My record is something like six minutes, which isn't good, but whatever)

-The Sims. There was something about carefully crafting a house, creating the model family to live in it, and playing through until they had become moderately wealthy with an expanded "perfect home" and all of the expensive furniture that really became obsessive. Or maybe it was locking the father of said perfect family in a small room with no door, no food, no bed, and no toilet. Don't judge me, you know you've done it.
Have to agree here..

My first game that I got addicted over was Tomb Raider 2, the first 3D game I ever saw. Of course I was mesmerized at the prospect of exploring places and raiding tombs. After this it, Diablo 2 and Oblivion ended up taking the addiction spot. Still addicted over Oblivion these days... And the best part about an obsession is the bunch of memories you get from playing the game. :)

Two games in particular, Adventure on the Atari and Zork on the C64. They don't really reach very high into my list of greatest games of all time, but they did mark my entry into what would blossom into a video game addiction until I woke up one day and realized that I would much rather have friends.

God! no-one's said WOW! That surprised me. And no, videogame have never spoiled my life, except for nearly beating MP2 in 3 school days. :).

Note: my friend's life was seriously destroyed by WOW. He played 4-6 hours every school night, and up to 12 hours on a weekend. his longest binge was 38 hours. That was a year ago. I haven't seen him since. :(.

The original Call of Duty , it was the first time i got to play a competive online game(played some other games online before but never serious) and would just play for about 12 hours a day everytime i had a day off . I was good at it to but at one point i just stopped, got back into it when the expansion came but never really liked that one as much.

Also WoW ... pretty much cost me 1 year of school , have quit now though and am doing fine again in school :)

Daggerfall. I got a cracked version that was broken (no quest triggered) and I played it anyways. Then I phoned an American company (I live in Europe) to import the original game.

FF7 - I would run home after school to lose myself in this game. I'd get stuck and restart many times but I would love it all to death. Being only...10 at the time I didnt really 'get it'

FF8 - Same as 7 just not as much.. Still loved it!

Pokemon - Yeah I was a pokemon nerd

DnD - Almost every spare second im thinking of cool character ideas, nasty traps or plot points.

My addictions have been many and varied, but the earliest that I can remember were Kaboom! and Megamania on the 2600. Later, the 1st Zelda and Wizardry on the NES. Man did I play me some Zelda. Hell, I just beat it again a couple of weeks ago. Started off showing my (6 year old)daughter what the original looked like and we ended up playing it together all day until it was beat. (gotta love those crappy weather with nothing to do days.)By the way, she also loves megamania. :)
I wouldn't say that any games have ruined my life. I am perfectly capable of that myself without letting games take the blame.
