"L.A. Noire" was an irritating misfire for me. Irritating because it is somehow seen as a noble failure to make an ambitious game that doesn't succeed very well at doing what it aimed to do. Everything else this year was ace, it's just I don't like playing games any more...which probably means I should have actually enjoyed "L.A. Noire"...arf arf...

Funny really, I found playing DA2 more enjoyable to play than DA0 - DAO had good combat but the game itself was so boring and slow. So im thinking a bit of both games would be perfect.

Actually you wonder why they cant have both DAO and DA2 combat control styles in the DO3 and the player can chose there preferred one in the options menu.

I liked- heck loved Dragon Age 2 and its still the most disappointing game of the year.

The base mechanics and story wasn't as good. The graphics and storytelling were better and smoother but combat was same-y and the storytelling didn't save the story.

Most disappointing part - The animation, people swung weapons around like they had no weight and unlike D:O the characters looked like they were swinging in the enemies general direction rather then directly at them.

Bioware does have a great retcon for the new anime-esque animations though - Varric just exaggerated it all. Hopefully DA 3 will take the game back to its roots.

I'd disagree with the list personally. Anyone who had high hopes for Duke Nukem: Forever, or any positive ones, is an idiot by default. Personally, my list of disappointing games of 2011:

5. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
This is a game series that can be best described as having questionable quality, but even then this game really does it's best to be a nothing game. While the other games have had their moments, this game can be described as being a large game about absolutely nothing. It's plagued with plot problems (e.g. this seems like something a hack writer who spent his teens during the "red scare" days) and decides to kill off the characters that sold the series. The ending, for the climatic finish of the Modern Warfare plot line, is bland and unrewarding. I hope there isn't another Modern Warfare game, but then again they probably want to milk the cash cow some more.

4. Saints Row The Third.
The previous Saints Row games emphasised the idea of choice and the freedom to do stupid things. So it's a let down that some of the choice has been stripped from you (e.g. gender on a slide scale). Not to mention, the story has been watered down by Johnny Gat being killed off has left only the weakest cast members from the original and no one to fill the rift. Not to mention there's no more side questions with a bizarre array of characters who have nothing to do with the Saints but rather reminders of how weak of a character line-up it is.

3. Mount & Blade: With Fire And Sword.
This is a game best described as being faulty due to source material. I don't doubt this game tried to stay true to the novel, but by doing so has crippled the game. The ability to wield guns has left the combat more like a stroke of chance rather than skill like the previous games. The inability at first (until a patch) to be a female character was a terrible design decision considering the previous game not only allowing but also making gender affect gameplay. It's a long string of bad ideas that has made the game generally disappointing. Still perhaps enjoyable, but still disappointing.

2. Dragon Age 2.
To be honest, Bioware was going to have a had time making a game not disappointing due to how good Dragon Age: Origins was. However, to produce a game this rushed and poorly made is an insult not only to the series but to the developer's record of making good games, especially games well written. The characterisations are awful and bland (with the inclusion of a JRPG character that doesn't belong), the environments feel cheated considering how copied and pasted it is and the story is awkward and unenjoyable. It's hard not to get a bad taste after this game.

1. Brink.
This was a game that advertised choice. The ability to choose guns upgrades, the ability to choose how your character looks and the ability to choose abilities. What a shower of disappointment when you find out the limited gun selection, the incredibly limited character creation and the poor array of character builds. While there is a parkour element, it's half done and rushed, feeling more awkward than free-flowing. The story, while holding so much potential, was badly written with poor displays of story and poor characters in cutscenes. Instead of executing a story mode where both sides are equally good in their cause but you feel bad that they can't come to an agreement, you get a story mode where both sides are equally bad in their cause and you feel bored and tired that they can't just stop fighting. You feel more like a mother with children who fight a bit too much rather than a sociologist or a historian discovering a conflict where either side had it's interesting parts. This is Mirror's Edge if Mirror's Edge was rushed and made by a poor developer who just couldn't care for the game they were making but just wanted to make money. So little effort was put into this that it's a wonder it wasn't filled with glitches.

None of the games I personally played were bad (to me), and I'm sure if I played some of the games mentioned then they would be on a list for me. But the thing is, I was never interested in most of these games that are commonly being mentioned so I figured I wouldn't enjoy them and I only want to spend money on games I would enjoy.

Only regrettable purchase for me is probably Rage. I am going to add my voice to the choir of people saying that Rage had lots of potential but was a letdown. I am going to be honest and say that I had lots of fun with Rage; the environments were fairly interesting and the gameplay was incredibly good. The story was barely there and was of no consequence, but it didn't matter because I just wanted more combat! I wanted to use my cool weapons more because they were damn fun to use! The problem is that I didn't get enough of it. The whole thing about racing and vehicle combat was interesting but I wish there was more gun combat because that (for me) was a hell of a lot of fun. Rage to me was like a small piece of chocolate: very enjoyable, had a lot going for it but didn't last long and that enjoyment was over too quickly. There was only like two main towns, JUST TWO!!!!! If there was like 5, or 6 (hell, even 4) then there would have been much more things to do, more content, more story missions, more chance to use the awesome tools and guns that you acquired. If there was more content (longer campaign with more towns and missions) then the poor story would've been much more forgivable. This would honestly be one of my favorite new games if it had more content, because what it had in terms of missions involving shooting things was very good in my opinion and I wanted more but never got it.

Was Brink released this year or last year? If it was 2011 then that's my biggest disappointment. Also Saints Row 3 and Deus Ex are probably up their as well.

Da2 was definitely the worst game the only reason i was able to complete is because i loved da:eek: so much i was willing to look past it's flaws. It damaged Bioware's reputation in my eyes. The only way they can fix it is if da3 and me3 are good, and the only way I'm buying da3 is if i hear that people actually liked it because Bioware can't rely on the non-existent da2 fanbase.
